AUGUST 30 – SEPTEMBER 4, 2012

orientation
Dear Transfer Students,
Welcome to Penn — our home and now yours, too! As transfer students (Maggie from
Wellesley and Kim from Barnard), we understand how excited and perhaps nervous you
might feel about your transition to Penn. Although starting over in a brand new school
is never easy, we feel confident that your years at Penn will constitute some of the best
of your lives.
By attending Transfer Orientation in September, you will not only integrate yourselves
into Penn’s academic community, you will also take part in exciting activities tailormade
for transfer students. As this year’s Transfer Coordinators, we have helped the
New Student Orientation staff and other student volunteers create a week of events
specifically designed for you. These programs, which are social, cultural, and academic
in nature, will ensure that you get to know Penn, Philadelphia, and one another before
embarking on your first semester here. The events we have planned will not only help
you become acclimated with Penn, they will constitute some of your most memorable
moments. The Transfer Orientation website at www.upenn.edu/nso gives you a detailed
picture of all the great experiences and happenings we have in store for you.
Additionally, we hope that you will join our Facebook group at www.PennTransfers.com.
This group allows you to interact with Transfer PHINS (Peers Helping Incoming New
Students), the NSO staff, and other transfer students. We encourage you to post any
questions you may have about your first days at Penn. The site also contains contact
information for each of the four undergraduate Schools: The College of Arts and Sciences,
Engineering, Nursing, and Wharton.
Congratulations, and again, please don’t hesitate to email us or call the NSO office with
any questions. We look forward to meeting you in September!
Sincerely,
