Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League
Premier League
Report 2011
Hartley Country Club emerged as Premier
Champions in 2011 after a close fought
contest. Bromley, who ended second, Bexley
and Lordswood were all strong contenders
but the overall consistency of a wellbalanced
Hartley squad proved decisive and
their winning margin of 22 points was well
deserved.
Hartley’s strength and depth of batting was
never in question and their batsmen shone
throughout. Both Charlie Hemphrey and
Dan Stickels scored 619 runs, both with an
average of 47.62 and both with a top score
of 151, this also achieved on the same day
in impressive style against Tunbridge Wells
at The Nevill. Sam Billings also impressed
amassing 514 runs from just ten innings
with a magnificent top score of 208 and an
average of 64.25. They were well supported
by James Thompson with 447 and James
Hockley 381 runs respectively.
Their bowling was steady throughout the
season. They were unable to call often on
the experienced opening seamers Andy
Tutt and Darrel Carter due to injuries,
but were able to share the bowling load
amongst others who all chipped in with
valuable contributions, James Hockley
taking 20 wickets, and James Cramp, Charlie
Hemphrey and James Thompson 19 each.
An excellent all round season for Hartley,
worthy Champions of 2011.
Elsewhere there were also noteworthy
performances. Two batsmen reached 800
runs, Tom Harvey of The Mote scoring
an impressive 856 and John Bowden of
Sevenoaks Vine reaching the exact milestone
in the final game of the season. On the
bowling front Steven Rowe of Sibton Park
headed the list with 31 wickets.
It is perhaps somewhat ironic that the
leading batsman and leading wicket taker
should come from the two clubs who
were sadly relegated, The Mote and Sibton
Park. They will be replaced by Division 1
Champions Beckenham and runners up
Canterbury in 2012.
Overall ground standards were good in 2011
with Bromley topping both the Captains and
Umpires ground marking tables. Behaviour
was also of a good standard, with Bexley
capturing the Brian Luckhurst Premier
Division Spirit of Cricket award.
We offer great thanks to our panel umpires
in the Premier Division, Division 1 and
Division 2 who once again provided a very
high standard of officiating and to all other
umpires and scorers in all divisions who
support our great game.
