Dartmouth Skiing Facilities
Dartmouth offers top-notch facilities to support its programs.
Both the Dartmouth Skiway and the Dartmouth Cross Country
Ski Center at Oak Hill were the venues for the 2003 NCAA
Men’s and Women’s Collegiate Ski Championships, hosted by
Dartmouth, and continue to provide the teams outstanding
training and competition venues.
Dartmouth Skiway
Located just fifteen miles from campus, the Skiway has
served as the primary training site for the Dartmouth Ski Team
programs since 1957 and is the site of the annual Dartmouth
Winter Carnival as well as FIS, USSA, high school and junior
competitions. With two chair lifts and a beginner j-bar, two
mountain peaks, FIS approved
giant slalom and slalom trails,
outstanding snowmaking and
grooming, the Skiway provides
world class training for the Ski
Team as well as a variety of
slopes and trails for Dartmouth
students, local clubs and family
skiers.
The Skiway has seen many major improvements over the
years. The award winning McLane Family Lodge, with its
soaring post and beam timber frame, opened in December
2001.
In the summer of 2006, more than forty teammates, friends
and family came together for a weekend to construct the
Jeremiah Thompson ’96 Memorial Start House on the Thomas
Trail racing arena.
During 2008 and 2009 over $500,000 was invested in the
Thomas and Wordens racing trails. The Dartmouth Skiway
now has two state of the art FIS ski racing and training
venues, complete with full time FIS “A” and “B” net protection
systems.
Recently the Dupre family, which
includes sisters Denise Dupré ‘80, Rosi
Dupré Littlefield '82, Anni Dupré Santry
'83, and Michele Dupré ‘88 and Snow
Economics, Inc made a gift to the Skiway
of $750,000 in the latest in snowmaking
technology equipment. This gift
recognizes the achievements of the
Duprés' father, Herman K. Dupré, an
internationally known inventor and
entrepreneur in the snowmaking industry. The dramatic
improvements in snow making efficiency ensure ideal skiing
conditions for everyone and drastically reduce our energy
costs.
Dartmouth Cross Country Ski Center at Oak Hill
Oak Hill was originally designed for downhill skiing, but
cross country trails were cut in the 1960’s. These trails have
been much improved over time. Major trail improvements were
done in preparation for the 2003 NCAA Championships
resulting in a world-class system of trails.
When funding permits, we hope to develop a sprint course,
which has already been laid out thanks to a donation of time
and expertise by Morton Trails. And, of course, we hope to
install a snowmaking system when we have the resources to
do so.
Under the guidance of the Dartmouth Skiing program and
the Outdoor Programs office, the Dartmouth Cross Country
Ski Center grooms over 20 kilometers of trails for its programs
and to enhance public recreation. Located two miles from
campus, it serves as the site for the Dartmouth Carnival cross
country races as well as dry-land and on-snow practices.
Robinson Hall
Facilities
Robinson Hall, on the Dartmouth campus, is the home of
Dartmouth Skiing. Our facilities include men’s and women’s
locker rooms, ski room and recovery room, as well as our
office space. Most skiing activities radiate out from this
centrally located spot on campus.
