NATO School
Slalom Ski Competition
and
‘Esprit de Corps’ Day
Perhaps it will be the free Glühwein, or maybe the
chance to out-ski the Commandant - all the
ingredients will be there to make this year’s NATO
School Slalom Ski Competition a huge success.
The Laber Ski Club will host the competition on
Friday 10 March. The Commandant has decreed
that the Friday will be a NATO School ‘esprit de
corps’ day and all NATO School personnel not on
essential duty and their families are invited to take
part or come and watch.
The races will start at 1030 hrs and registration
will be at the finish line tent above the ‘Wank Alm’
on the Oberammergau ski slopes. A reduced rate
lift pass has been negotiated for all individuals
displaying a race bib.
Individuals will be allowed two attempts in each
race category entered – their best time will count.
Practise runs will be permitted only if no
competitor is waiting to start a timed run.
The last run will be at 1615 hrs.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
• Children’s Slalom – combined under 10 yrs;
• Young people’s Slalom – combined under 16 yrs;
• Novice Slalom – combined event for individuals
who have only started skiing this season;
• Intermediate Women’s Slalom;
• Intermediate Men’s Slalom;
• Veteran Slalom – combined event for individuals
over 50 yrs old;
• Expert Slalom – combined event for individuals
who: regularly enter race competitions, are ski
instructors or individuals who achieved a place of
1 st , 2 nd or 3 rd in last year’s intermediate event;
• Snow Board – combined young people under 16
yrs event
• Snow Board – combined men & women’s event
An entry fee of € 2.50 will be charged for
individuals who are not members of the Laber Ski
Club, to cover the costs of trophies and
refreshments.
A bar will be available selling beer, soft drinks and
pretzels – hot gluwein will be available from
lunchtime.
The results will be announced and certificates and
trophies will be awarded at the Après Ski Party in
the NRC Blue Crest Lounge on Friday 10 th March
commencing at 1800 hrs.
Our two resident experts, Toby Streibl and Joe
Isherwood, have agreed to provide race training
on the afternoons of 1 st , 3 rd and 8 th of March to
give that extra edge to those vying for a place in
