Activities <strong>and</strong> achievements<br />
Whole Farm Plan Project<br />
The number of new or updated Whole Farm Plans in<br />
the Shepparton Irrigation Region increased significantly<br />
in the 2008-2009 year. Irrigators took advantage of the<br />
85 percent rebate to develop a new or update existing<br />
plans to design on-farm irrigation delivery in line with<br />
<strong>Goulburn</strong>-Murray <strong>Water</strong> upgraded infrastructure.<br />
A record total of 237 new Whole Farm Plans were<br />
completed covering an area of 19,928ha during 2008-<br />
2009. In addition 10 Modernised Existing Whole Farm<br />
Plans were prepared covering 548ha.<br />
The number of Whole Farm Plan Incentive applications<br />
was much higher than the average levels in past years.<br />
This included preparing plans on properties for the first<br />
time <strong>and</strong> those that had had a previous plan but needed<br />

it upgraded to reflect modernisation works on the<br />
ground. These plans were able to provide the irrigator<br />
with options <strong>and</strong> the costs associated with proposed<br />
works <strong>and</strong> justify requests to Northern Victoria Irrigation<br />
Renewal Project for appropriate financial assistance.<br />
Whole Farm Plans were prepared for seven horticultural<br />
properties covering 306ha <strong>and</strong> 230 broad acre properties<br />
over 19,622ha. Over 80.2 percent of the irrigated area of<br />
the Shepparton Irrigation Region has now been ‘whole<br />
farm planned’. A total of 73 plans were completed in areas<br />
covered by Local Area Plans, covering 5,863ha.<br />
In 2008-2009 there were 359 Whole Farm Plans<br />
commenced, which is the highest number of plans<br />
commenced since the Whole Farm Plan project started.<br />
This eclipsed the previous highest of 280 plans in 2001-<br />
2002.<br />
Grants totalling $1,151,818 (excluding GST) were paid<br />
to l<strong>and</strong>owners for preparing their Whole Farm Plans.<br />
This was above the budgeted target of $1,000,000.<br />
<strong>L<strong>and</strong></strong>owners paid $1,494,896 (excluding GST), for the<br />
preparation of these plans. A total of 112 grants were<br />
paid to l<strong>and</strong>owners for having their plans certified by<br />
Local Government, resulting in 45 percent of all plans<br />
completed in 2008-2009.<br />
ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS<br />
