Drainage Re-use System Project<br />
A total of 66 Drainage Re-use Systems were installed<br />
as part of the Drainage Re-use System Project in 2007-<br />
2008 servicing 3,643ha. This was an increase on the 48<br />
systems installed in 2007-2008 <strong>and</strong> an increase in the area<br />
serviced 2,703ha.<br />
Since the project started in 2001-2002, a total 12.94<br />
percent of the irrigated area of the <strong>Goulburn</strong> <strong>Broken</strong><br />
component of the Shepparton Irrigation Region is<br />
serviced by a Drainage Re-use System installed as part of<br />
this project.<br />
A total of 21 Drainage Re-use Systems were installed in<br />
areas covered by a Local Area Plan servicing over 1,198ha.<br />
Some interesting facts relating to Drainage Re-use<br />
Systems installed in 2008-2009 were:<br />
• The average time taken from application to payment<br />
of a grant following installation was 17 months;<br />
• The average grant payment was 43.50 percent of the<br />
total costs.<br />
Location of Drainage Reuse Systems installed<br />
Grants totalling $739,884 (excluding GST) were paid<br />
to l<strong>and</strong>owners for installing Drainage Re-use Systems.<br />
This was above the budgeted target of $650,000. When<br />
broken down into the three components of the grant,<br />
expenditure was as follows: $292,583 for earthworks,<br />
$341,876 for pumps <strong>and</strong> motors, <strong>and</strong> $105,425 for<br />
electricity. <strong>L<strong>and</strong></strong>owners paid $1,701,075 (excluding GST)<br />
for the installation of the Drainage Re-use Systems on<br />
their properties.<br />
There was an increase in the average grant payment from<br />
$10,453 in 2007-2008 to $11,210 in 2008-2009.<br />
