orange f.o.o.d week<br />

so f.o.o.d week turns 21!!<br />

i participated at the first F.o.o.D affair back in 1991 – when it<br />

was held at the orange regional gallery Forecourt – and if<br />

i remember correctly, there were some 7 or 8 wineries and a<br />

couple of local producers, a butcher bbq’ing sausages & steaks<br />

and me – trying to replicate a French Café!!<br />

How things have changed.<br />

The F.o.o.D <strong>Week</strong> Committee now organises six events, including<br />

F.o.o.D Central and our newest event, Forage – thanks to the<br />

wonderful support of NSW DPi.<br />

We are still a voluntary committee, and all of us continue in this<br />

capacity because we are passionate about our area and what<br />

comes out of it!! The steady rise of our wines in reputation, the<br />

exponential rise in production of our vineyards over the last<br />

21 years and the continued excellence of our produce, fan the<br />

flames of our passion. The great work that Taste orange does<br />

to market and promote all facets of our area are testament to us<br />

all in the orange district who strive for excellence in any of the<br />

component parts that make our area so wonderful and attractive<br />

to both visitors and residents.<br />

our producers have had an up and down year – the end of a<br />

10 year drought over the last 18 months has brought good and<br />

bad – two wet grain harvests, two smaller cherry crops and a<br />

very damp vintage in 2011 – but bumper apple crops and great<br />

livestock production. By the skin of our teeth our F.o.o.D <strong>Week</strong><br />

events were terrific in 2011 – let’s hope the weather gods are as<br />

kind in 2012.<br />

The F.o.o.D <strong>Week</strong> Committee welcomes all to the 2012 F.o.o.D<br />

<strong>Week</strong>, the event holders, the out of town guests, the local<br />

residents and the stallholders and wineries. The combination<br />

of the above has made F.o.o.D <strong>Week</strong> the longest running and<br />

arguably the most successful regional event in NSW (at least).<br />

Eat and drink (sensibly) and have a wonderful F.o.o.D <strong>Week</strong> in 2012.<br />
