Sustenance - Emergency Food Network

Saturday, May 12 marks the date of this year’s National
Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. This event
brings in over 300,000 pounds of food to help feed
the hungry children, seniors and adults that visit food
banks, shelters and meal sites 110,000 times each
month. All of the food donated by the community is
picked up by letter carriers and is collected, weighed,
sorted, and distributed by EFN to local emergency
food programs throughout Pierce County.
What you can do...
1. Fill a bag with food.
2. Place it by your mailbox on May 12
3. Job well done! Your Postal Carrier will deliver
the food to Emergency Food Network.

More Than Words...
Once upon a time (last year),
in the land of books and
publishing, Harlequin asked
readers, authors and fans to
help choose the recipients for
the 2012 Harlequin More Than
Words award—a national
contest that recognizes and
rewards women making
extraordinary contributions to
their community. After more
than 111,000 online votes and
7,800 Facebook shares, the
2012 recipients of the eighth
annual Harlequin More Than
Words award were chosen –
one being EFN’s own Helen McGovern! Each of the three honorees
received $15,000 for her charity. The story continues as the three
award winners are paired up with three of Harlequin’s authors to
write short stories inspired by the life and work of the recipients. The
short stories will be available in 2013 in ebook format to download
at no cost (but alas, Fabio will not be on the cover with Helen).
