Dear Members, 

2011 was a challenging year clouded with high inflation and news of 

uncertain global economic outlook. The Club had continued to focus on 

improving and upgrading facilities, and enhancing membership value for the 

past year, albeit in a financially prudent and sustainable manner. 

Over the last 12 months, the Club has invested substantially on facilities 

improvement and upgrading which included refurbishing the Grand 

Ballroom, relocating and upgrading Jackpot Royale, replacement of buggy 

batteries, repairing of building structure and replacing malfunctioned 

equipments due to wear and tear over the last 18 years of heavy usage. Each 

year, the Club sets aside funds reserved for facility repairs and enhancement 

to undertake the upgrading, repairs works as and when required in order to 

maintain the service standard. As the facilities are showing signs of age, we 

plan to step up upgrading or repair works primarily for members’ benefit. 

Better facilities will also help attract more events and banquet functions to 

be held at OCC, which translates into higher revenue for the Club. 

Leasehold premium will be due for review at the end of next year and we 

are expecting the lease premium to increase quite significantly. The Club 

was also hit with an increase in additional property tax payable as a result 

of revision in annual value, and we are still in the midst of appealing to the 

authorities. 

In addition to the above property costs, the Club continued to face cost 

pressures from higher utilities and manpower costs. Despite energy saving 

measures taken to manage electricity consumption, the costs continued to 

escalate due to higher electricity tariffs, something that we have no control 

over. Manpower costs will continue to rise as well, especially with the recent 

government calls to help the low wage workers. 

With the escalating Club operation costs and the need for substantial capital 

expenditure to maintain and upgrade facilities, generating higher revenue 

and achieving better productivity shall remain the key focus for the General 

Committee and Management going forward. We will need to stay financially 

viable to do more for members. 

One of the recent initiatives that the Club had undertaken to cushion the 

negative impact generated by the opening of two integrated resorts (IRs) 

in 2010 was the relocation of Jackpot Royale to a new premise. The newly 

renovated jackpot room and new jackpot machines that were installed 

had enhanced members’ playing pleasure. The effort has certainly paid 

off as evidenced from the increase in patronage from members. Members 

are also full of praise for the newly acquired jackpot machines which are 

comparable to what IRs are offering. 

To enhance membership value, the Club has also brought in new 

renowned tenants such as Gayatri Restaurant and Cristofori Music 

School to offer members more variety of products and services in OCC. 

Members enjoy exclusive discounts at the outlets and Management will 

also be working closely with them to provide interesting activities for 

members. The Club’s financials have also benefited with the additional 

rental income collected. 

The reciprocal and access arrangements with overseas clubs have 

been intensified, and we are pleased to update that we now have 

50 reciprocal and access arrangements with social and golf clubs 

globally. More social activities such as drive trips or group excursions 

to neighboring countries have also been organized for members’ 

participation. Be assured, we will continue our efforts to create more 

activities and programs for members. 

Last but not least, as members of the Club, we need you to come 

and enjoy the facilities as often as you can to make our efforts and 

investments worthwhile.

Dear Members, 

Since the beginning of this year, the Club has signed a number of new 

reciprocal and access arrangements with Golf and Social clubs from all 

over the world, including from South Africa, Italy, China, India, and Thailand. 

Apart from golfing reciprocity, we are also tying up with social clubs such 

as Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong, to give our members more choices. 

We shall continue to negotiate more of such arrangements in Asia and will 

update members in the near future. 

Through the recent membership profile survey, we have garnered valuable 

insights into your wish list and areas for improvements at the Club. My 

appreciation goes out to all members who participated in the survey and 

gave their constructive inputs and comments. 

Many of you indicated interest in swimming, more overseas trips and 

courses such as photography and cooking. We have taken the survey results 

into consideration and some of these activities had been introduced for 

your participation to gauge the response before more will be added. For 

example, last month, the Club organized a holiday swim camp for teens and 

a day trip full of great food and fun to Desaru for members, which was wellreceived. 

Some of you have also shared your concerns that the arcade room is 

under-utilized, while others have requested for new pool tables. As such, I 

am pleased to inform that new pool tables and massage chairs have been 

placed for members’ enjoyment in the arcade. Do keep your ideas and 

comments coming in, as they are important for our continuous improvement 

and to serve you better. 

To further enhance your membership value, we have introduced members’ 

social nights where you can enjoy selected chargeable activities at no fees 

on weeknights, examples of which are mahjong, squash, tennis, table tennis 

and gym classes. 

Come July, the Club is partnering with NTUC to bring you Connect U, 

a family carnival featuring a walking trail on the golf course. It is a rare 

opportunity for non-golfers to take a stroll on the courses, so I hope to see 

you there. In August, we are gearing up for OCC’s social dancing event of 

the year, August Ball. I hope you have prepared your dancing shoes and do 

book your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Not forgetting our range 

activities, look out for our monthly range promotions and the annual Range 

Carnival planned on 25 and 26 August. Last but not least, in a bid to turn 

your sleepy Sunday to a superb one, check out our special Sunday deals on 

hotel, golf and at the range. 

OCC is prepared to invest more into its facilities maintenance and 

activities to make the Club a fun and family-oriented venue for our 

members and guests. But for us to succeed, we seek your continued 

active participation for these Club initiatives.

For months, OCC have been putting in place good workplace safety and health 

practices in order to make the Club a safe environment for members, guests and staff 

to play and work. Our efforts have paid off as we are now bizSAFE certified! Below are 

some of the safety improvement works implemented around OCC.

follow the 7-step guide displayed beside the unit. 

To ensure better workplace safety, 18 of our staff 

members have undergone the AED & CPR course.

Compulsory Golf Insurance for Golfers 

Please note that from 15 June 2012, it is compulsory for all golfers golfing at OCC to have golf insurance 

and they are required to produce proof of their insurance during registration. All members’ guests and 

visitors who do not have insurance must purchase it at the golfing registration counter at $5 per golfer, 

per round, before they tee off. Members who do not have golf insurance are advised to sign up at the golf 

registration counter.

experiences, requiring the golfer of all levels to concentrate throughout the round.

Karnataka Golf Association, India 

Kamataka Golf Association is one of the busiest courses in the country. The 18 holes, Par-72 championship 

golf course was designed by renowned golfer and British open winner Peter Thomson. 

Delhi Golf Club, India 

Let’s welcome Delhi Golf Club, 

a paradise in the heart of a 

teeming city. The 220-acre 

course consists of an outward 

journey of 3,632 yards - par 38 

and a coming of 3,340 yards 

- par 35. The course record 

is held by Graham Marsh, the 

Australian, who in the first and 

second rounds of the 1971 open 

paved his way to victory with 

two consecutive 66’s.

Another addition to our list is 

Kowloon Cricket Club, located 

in the heart of Kowloon’s 

shopping district. KCC is a 

multi-sports private members’ 

club with excellent sporting and 

recreational facilities. The Golf 

Centre is equipped with the Full 

Swing Golf simulator updated 

with the latest technology.

The President’s Cup kicked off in the sweltering summer heat, but the 108 members who took 

part remained in high spirits and gave their best shots. At the dinner and prize-giving ceremony held at 

Emerald Suite later that evening, Mr Koh Wah Hui took home the overall winner’s trophy. Apart from prizes for 

winners and lucky draw, all the daddies present were given a surprise with a Father’s Day cake. OCC thanks all

On the beautiful evening greens of OCC golf 

course, eager participants came as early as 10.00pm to 

register for the Super Sprint Race! 

The men and women runners started the 2.5km race 

officially at 11.30pm, followed by the youths and kids 

as young as 10 years old. The race ended with a 5km 

competitive race which was open for all. 

Let’s all look forward to the next series of the event, so 

get ready for some swimming! Long Live Super Sprint! 

The Kampong Glam Luncheon on 5 

May 2012 was filled with fun, entertainment 

and great food to relive the good old days! 

All members and guests received 

an OCC mug as welcome gift. During 

the feast, they also indulged in soothing 

ukulele music and were fascinated by the 

magic show! 

To top it off, five lucky winners walked away 

with a Nescafe “Alegria” coffee machine at 

the end of the day!

A total of 65 OCC and ACC members 

came together for this excursion to Desaru. 

Highlights included a sampling of the famous 

“Dao Sha Ping” and “Pong Piah” from Se Yuan 

Bakery Food Supply and a visit to the fruit farm 

and mini zoo. Lunch was served at a popular 

local seafood restaurant while dinner was at the 

“New Mui Tou” restaurant. To finish off the trip, 

the last stop was a boat ride for a breathtaking 

view of fireflies which resembled twinkling 

Christmas lights. 

We enjoyed ourselves on the meals, 

shopping, farm and river tour (fireflies). 

Hope to have more of these outdoor 

activities for this coming year. GOOD JOB 

& WELL DONE!

Training 

Eighteen selected staffs attended the course 

that will equip participants with the necessary 

life-saving skills and confidence to respond during 

cardiac emergencies. All staffs are awarded the 

CPR + AED certificate accredited by the National 

Resuscitation Council and is valid for two years. 

Emergency 

Exercise Drill 

10 selected staffs had come together on 

the golf course for the CPR and AED Drill on 30 

May 2012. The drill exercise was a success!

Already in my 50s, I have always been looking 

for ways to get fitter and I happened to come across a notice 

about a Taekwondo class in the OCC club magazine. I decided 

to give it a try. Any worries about not being able to cope with 

the training were quickly put at ease by the Chief Instructor, 

Mr Richard Wong of Climatic TKD Groups. 

With careful guidance, there wasn’t any stress as we progressed 

at our own pace depending on our fitness level and capability. 

The lessons have a good mix of physical training as well as 

theoretical explanations with a strong emphasis on discipline 

and respect. I always look forward to a good workout with my 

teammates after a stressful week at work. 

I have been training Taekwondo with OCC since the 2010 and 

hold a brown belt currently. I have benefited greatly, noticing 

an overall increase in fitness, health and alertness.

the toilet bowl area was leaking and your housekeeping staff, 

Aisha, immediately expressed concern that the floor might be 

slippery and asked if we would like a room swap. 

Lastly, Chan and Varu did not push my queries away and 

kept me updated promptly. 

Overall, the front desk, housekeeping and maintenance team 

are indeed attentive and responsive to guest’s needs.
