4. If you have received approval to take up the IA placement sourced by yourself, you only need to register for IA without having to key in any selection of IA organisation/project. CAO will update you to the approved placement. 5. If you have submitted (but yet to receive approval) or intend to submit a selfsourced application, you will not be allowed to select any local interviewing or overseas organisation publicised by CAO. By applying to a local interviewing or overseas organisation publicised by CAO, your self-sourced application will be void. 6. If you are applying to overseas IA or local interviewing organisation, please use 'Create/Update Resume(s) for IA' option in the IA module to prepare the resumes first. You will be prompted to attach the appropriate resume if you have selected overseas IA or local interviewing organisation. 7. Interviews by the organisation will be conducted during the last week of March (for IA in S1) or first week of October (for IA in S2). For S2, AY 2012/2013, interviews by the organisation will be carried out from 1 to 5 October 2012 (main period) or other dates proposed by the organisations. Interview schedule for interviewing organisations for either local or overseas IA placement will be updated by the organisations concerned directly. An email will be sent to you NTU email account directly as and when the organisation enters the interview schedule in the system. Please check your email regularly for updates if you have selected an interviewing organisation. Alternatively, you can also logon to StudentLink to check the status of your application. Please note that the organisations are not obliged to explain • why they do not shortlist a certain student for interview and/or • why they do not select a student after the interview. 8. Please update your address, contact numbers and handphone number through the StudentLink – Change of Personal Particulars. We may need to contact you urgently on matters relating to Industrial Attachment. 9. Please note that a) if you do not key in any information at all under the "Attachment Registration & Selection of Organisations/Projects for IA" option in StudentLink on web by the closing date and time for your School, you will be deemed as not registered for IA and hence will not be allocated any IA organisation. b) if you do not meet the pre-requisite for IA after the release of examination result, you will not be allowed to go for IA even though you have registered for IA. c) the final IA project may be modified or change due to organisation’s needs. 10. G) RULES ON ALLOCATION OF IA ORGANISATIONS/PROJECTS (NOT APPLICABLE FOR BIE) 1. The allocation of IA organisation/project is done by computer matching based on the students’ choices. The computer matching will be carried out after the selections by interviewing organisations (for both overseas and local IA) have been finalised. 2. Please note that your first local choice will be forfeited under the following situations: a) if you are shortlisted for an interview (for local or overseas IA) but you fail to turn up for it. b) if you are selected for overseas IA but you reject the offer. c) if you are selected by local interviewing organisation but you reject the offer. Your first choice will be deleted and treated as void. Only your 2 nd to 9 th choices will be used for computer allocation. 3. The whole allocation procedure will consist of the following steps: a) Manual Allocation by CAO Students who are in the following categories will be allocated by CAO to their respective IA organisations and projects: i) sponsored students who are required to do their IA with their sponsors. ii) students who are successful in their applications for overseas IA or IA with local interviewing organisations. iii) students who have secured their own placements (approved cases only). b) Verification of Students' Choices Every student's choices will be verified, by the computer programme, against the respective organisations' requirements (if any) on i) whether the project requires the candidate to have certain attributes which are more prominent in male or female students. ii) whether the project content is security sensitive and hence can only be offered to students of a certain nationality. iii) whether the project requires the candidate to have some relevant working experience and hence is more suitable for students with polytechnic background. iv) whether the organisation accepts students who are sponsored by, and hence are bonded to, other organisations. Students are advised to look up for such requirements which will appear: - in brackets under the organisation name when you search for the projects by Field, Field and Work Nature or Browse the list of projects. - as Remarks for each of the projects when you search for the project by Organisation Name or when you click specific Project Code in any listing for details. 11
