PAGE 2 A Turley Publication • www.turley.com I Thursday, July 19, 2012 Hickory Strings brings modern chamber music NOTRH BROOKFILED - On Friday, July 13, the Haston Library hosted a concert presented by Boston-based Hickory Strings with North Brookfi eld native Geoff Brown playing mandolin, tenor banjo, and Bulgarian tambura and Tev Stevig on National steel guitar and Turkish oud. Since its 2006 inception by Brown, Hickory Strings has been showcasing their talent throughout various New England venues, the group has released three albums, including “Patches,” a album composed of mandolin and banjo duets that was a challenging project for Brown, after he was inspired by obtaining his Masters degree in Classical Conservatory. The Haston Library performance included 11 original pieces composed by Geoff Brown and one traditional Bulgarian piece. Lake Wickaboag algae treatment rescheduled to July 23 WEST BROOK- FIELD - The Lake Wickaboag Preservation Association, along with the West Brookfi eld Board of Health, has announced that due to delays in receiving an EPA permit, the treatment for algae growth has been rescheduled to Monday, July 23. Lake Wickaboag will receive a total lake algaecide application and spot herbicide application to treat nuisance aquatic vegetation. Lycott Environmental, the contractor hired by the Board of Health to apply the algaecide treatment for algae and spot herbicide treatment for selected weed areas, has requested that swimming, fi shing and boating in the lake be suspended for the July 23 underwater treatment. Also, lake water should not be used for livestock watering on July 23 and 24, direct drinking from July 23 to July 26, and irrigation from July 23 to July 28. Members of LWPA will notify boaters and swimmers by placing signs on streets leading to the lake and by placing red fl ag buoys on the lake. As part of their education program, they will also send a reminder to residents through the local cable access channel before the application begins.
