<strong>UNILEVER</strong> OPENS NEW AEROSOL MANUFACTURING PLANT IN JIUTEPEC,<br />

MORELOS.<br />

� The English-Dutch company announced a startup investment of 60 million euro<br />

and the creation of 1,700 direct and indirect jobs in addition to the company’s 4,300<br />

existing jobs.<br />

� This is Unilever’s fifth plant in Mexico.<br />

President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa opened Unilever’s new aerosol manufacturing facilities<br />

in <strong>Jiutepec</strong>, <strong>Morelos</strong>. With a startup investment of 60 million euro, the company ratified its<br />

commitment to make long-term investments in Mexico.<br />

Unilever’s new plant is its fifth industrial complex in Mexico –it has facilities in <strong>Morelos</strong>, and<br />

in Lerma, Tultitlán and Naucalpan, in Estado de México. In addition, because its operation<br />

processes use renewable energies, cutting-edge technology in machinery and equipment,<br />

as well as maximum-security systems, the company intends to become LEED (Leadership<br />

in Energy & Environmental Design) certified.<br />

The plant will produce 600 million units of aerosol products every year. The company<br />

estimates that by 2012, the new plant’s aerosol production will be exported to the United<br />

States, Canada, Central America, the Caribbean and Colombia.<br />

Unilever began operations in Mexico over more than 40 years ago and currently has more<br />

than 4,300 employees. Globally, Unilever has business activities in more than 100<br />

countries, with approximately 167 thousand employees.<br />

Its product line includes close to 400 brands ranging over 14 food, home and personal<br />

care product categories. Some of the most renowned brands are Axe®, Rexona®, Dove®,<br />

Sedal®, Pond’s®, Knorr®, AdeS®, Hellmann’s®, Lipton®, Primavera®, Helados<br />

Holanda®, TRESemmé®, Folicuré®, St. Ives®, Maizena®, Iberia® and Alberto VO5®.<br />

In 2010, Unilever announced the “Unilever Sustainable Living Plan” with three goals for<br />

2020: halving the environmental impact of their products; helping more than one billion<br />

people with their health and well-being; and sustainably sourcing 100% of their agricultural<br />

materials.<br />

During the opening ceremony, President Felipe Calderón was joined by Bruno Ferrari,<br />

Minister of Economy; Marco Antonio Adame, Governor of <strong>Morelos</strong>; Paul Polman, CEO of


Unilever; Fabio Prado, CEO of Unilever Mexico and Carlos Guzmán Bofill, CEO of<br />

ProMéxico.<br />
