The Children’s “Samichlaus” Party 2010
The Children’s “Samichlaus” Party,
put on by the Ottawa Valley Swiss
Club was held on Sunday,
December 5, 2010 in the afternoon
at the Richelieu Centre.
The 25 kids attending were first
invited to participate in making or
decorating a gingerbread house or
a gingerbread man. Then there
was a talent show with singing and
playing the piano. There were lots
of baked goods and refreshments
for young and old.
Then finally all eyes were glued to
the window to watch Santa arrive in
a wagon pulled by a horse. (There
was not enough snow on the
ground for a sleigh.) Each child
was called up by Santa to receive a
toy or activity item and the
excitement was high, unwrapping
and playing with them. It was a
happy event, says Käthy
Lyon-Villiger, and having Santa
come earlier was a good idea.
That it began to snow right at that
moment was an added bonus!
After she asked the children to go
to the window, as Santa had just
"telephoned" that he was on his
way, there were a few long and
anxious moments of anticipation,
truncated here and there by the
inevitable, "Where is he?`" as they
pressed their little faces against the
windows, eyes glued on the edge of
the woods beyond. That is when
one little guy informed them viva
voce, "He just had to drive up to
the clouds first to shake them and
make more snow!!"
Everybody accepted that
explanation and, of course, in the
end, they were not disappointed. It
is such fun to see and hear our next
generation grow, talk, and make
themselves heard.
