Sincerely, Mary Busking and Tom Criscione ISAT NEWS The 2010 ISAT assessment for students in grades 3-8 are scheduled for the weeks of March 2, 2010 – March 12, 2010. Students received an ISAT Goals Sheet with their report card to complete at home with their parents. Please, reinforce the importance of the test for the student and school. The PTA will be sponsoring a Bears ISAT Assembly in February 2010. Thank you, PTA! If you have any questions concerning the ISAT’s, please contact Mr. Criscione. STANFORD 10 ASSESSMENT The Stanford 10 assessment for grades 3- 8 is finished for the year. Student results were sent home with the report cards. Grades 1 and 2 will test during the ISAT’s in the first week of March 2010. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Criscione. 8 TH GRADE PARENT MEETINGS The 3 rd 8 th Grade Parent Meeting took place on Tuesday, January 26 th . OUTDOOR EDUCATION PRINCIPAL’S NEWSLETTER February 2010 The 7 th Grade Outdoor Education trip to Camp Algonquin is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13, 2010 and Wednesday, April 14, 2010. The Parent Meeting on Wednesday, January 6 th was well-attended. We hope most of the 7 th graders attend the trip. The $47.00 fee is due by no later than Friday, February 12 th . The fee can be paid by check, e-pay (on-line or come in to see Mrs. Gibson), or cash. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Criscione. KOMAREK STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS The student council spent the beginning of January planning a fundraiser that will take place all of February. The fundraiser is called Young Masters. It is an art program that will allow every child in the school to create an art piece. Their art will be taken by this program and scanned into individual brochures for parents to choose a variety of products with their child’s art on them. Part of the profits are donated to the student council but a portion of it goes to the Make a Wish Foundation. We are very fortunate at Komarek to have students that want to help others. This fundraiser will help many children that are terminally ill. During the week of January 25-29, 2010, the student council raised donations to be given to the Red Cross to help aid the Haitian earthquake victims. Look for updates in the next newsletter for the students who won the Guess the Candy and Help Haiti contests during lunch as well as the total donation we were able to send. Our peer mediation program has slowed a bit this past month. We have not had any mediations this past month. Of course we are pleased that there has not been the need, however we are always looking to cultivate our mediator’s skills. The few mediations we have had this year have been very successful and we are continuing to look for ways to improve the program. We have reached out to all the teachers reminding them of our program and are going to begin an ad campaign in the school so that students remember this program is available to them.
