Seventh-day Adventists have seen
miracles aplenty. Schools, hospitals,
publishing houses established on a shoestring.
Visions sent from the Lord just
when needed most. And greater miracles,
the conversion and dedication of
people, including young people, to
difficult, selfless service.
But the great miracle that this
church was designed for , it is still waiting
to see. The Seventh-day Adventist
Church cannot rest satisfied until Jesus
comes again at the second advent.
"As God sent His servant to warn the world of the coming
flood, so He sent chosen messengers to make known the
nearness of the final judgment. And as Noah's contemporaries
laughed to scorn the predictions of the preacher of
righteousness, so in Miller's day many, even of the professed
people of God, scoffed at the words of warning."

The new owners of the Blue Mountain
Springs Dairy was the East Pennsylvania
Conference. The land they
owned consisted of 667 of land, 169
head of cattle, and a full line of farm
equipment.
During the first year, the Building
Fund's staggering sum was nearly
$220,000.00.
May 3 and 10, 1953, were the first
official visiting days to the new school
property. More than 500 people toured
the grounds of the anxiously-awaited
land of their school.
April 4, 19 54, waa the official
"Ground-Breaking Day." The people
who participated in this event were: W.
B. Ochs, Charlene Snyder, D. A. Ochs,
E. A. Robertson, David Martin, Harold
S. Campbell, and T. E. Unruh.
Soon excuvation was begun and
then the construction of the buildings
commenced. The Girl's Dorm, the
Boy's Dorm, and the Dining Hall, were
completed on March 1; 19 55. School
began in the Fall!

MESSAGE
Dear Students,
It has been a privilege to have you as students at Blue Mountain Academy this year. I have especially appreciated your positive
attitude, your spirit of cooperation and sense of dedication. Blue Mountain Academy has been made a much better school because
of your contribution. You will recall the wonderful time you had at BMA as you leaf through the pages of this beautiful
yearbook in the days ahead.
The staff has endeavored to give you every opportunity to grow spiritually this year. Some of you have accepted Christ for
the first time while others have rededicated their lives to Him. This spiritual growth on campus has resulted in a very positive
year. I pray that you have taken full advantage of the spiritual opportunities and are daily preparing to meet Jesus when he comes
in the very near future. Christ's work as our intercessor will soon be completed and He will declare, "He that is unjust, let him be
unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous; let him be righteous still ; and he that is holy,
let him be wholly still." Revelation 22 : 11.
Jesus has gone to prepare a place for each one where the "ever-flowing streams, clear as crystal, and beside them waving trees
cast their shadows upon the paths prepared for the ransomed of the Lord. There the widespreading plains swell into hills of
beauty, and the mountains of God rear their lofty summits. On those peaceful plains, beside those living streams, God's people,
so long pilgrims and wanderers, shall find a home."
" My people shall dwell in a peaceful habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. Violence shall no more be
heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls salvation, and thy gates Praise. They
shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another

Where have you chosen to spend eternity? Will you be ready when Jesus comes? It has been a thrilling experience for me to
assist you in your educational and spiritual development this year, and I pray that you will remain faithful to your commitment
to meet Jesus in the near future.

REGISTRATION
Long lines, hot and tired feet, strange
faces and " mug shots" are some of the
memories of registration day. It was August
28, anytime between 8 a.m. and 6
p.m. that students and parents lined up in
front of the west entrance hall to pick up
their blue registration forms. This was one
of the many stations that constituted the
registration process. It was here that you
received vital information and also had
ye ur card endorsed by-the people responsible
for each area.
Station I was where the Preview pictures
were taken. This was sponsored by
the Student Association so the camera
was operated by Randy Williams and Brad
Easter, two of the S.A. officers. After the
pictures, financial problems were taken
care of by Mr. Standish and his workers.
Mr. M. L. Whiting, our new vice principal,
assigned jobs to students and made
sure that signed work papers, birth certificates,
and social security numbers were
filed for everyone.
Stations IV, V, and VI were Career
Education, class schedules and music, re ­
spectively. The schedule line, being the
longest, was bypassed most often by those
who became impatient with waiting. At
station VII, we financially supported our
classes by paying our dues.
Height and weight measurements, taken
at the school clinic, were done by Mrs.
Shobe and Mrs. Wentland.
The last step of registration was to find
our respective dorms and check in , but
this wasn't all. To try and familiarize
ourselves with all those strange faces, the
annual Student/ Faculty handshake was
held in the gym on August 29. Of course,
most of us forgot what name goes with
what face, but there is always one face at
least that you will remember.

HOUSE
"New England" was the theme of this
year's Girls' Open House-Boys' Reception
which began at 6:00p.m., November 6,
1977. The cafeteria, first meeting place of
the evening had been decorated by the
boys' dorm. The main attractions were an
old-fashioned buggy and an authentic
covered bridge where food could be procured.
A delicious choice of foods was
provided. They included rolls, salad, fritters,
scallops, backed beans, and dessert.
After the meal there was a tour of Ellis
Hall. Each floor was decorated as a New
England state:
Senior floor- ski lodge in Vermont.
Junior floor- two seasons of Maine.
Sophomore floor-common street in
New York.
Freshman floor- sea wharf in Massachusetts.
The tour concluded, the boys voted
the floor that best represented New England.
Junior floor came out the winner.
To complete the evening, the boys'
club showed the movie "Lieutenant
Robinson Crusoe," starring Dick Van
Dyke.

IOU I
On December 3, 1977 in the BMA gymnasium,
Ho Sigma Kappa presented "People".
This was the title given to the Old
Fashioned Amateur Hour. Trenton Schwarzer,
Boy's Club President, started off
the evening with the welcome and by
introducing the Masters of Ceremonies,
our beloved deans, Mr. Wayne Wentland
and Mr. Gary Sudds.
A person in the audience might well
have forgotten that he was in Hamburg
instead of Hollywood. The live music by
the BMA Cantabile, and the great acts
were of a super special quality. Skits of
all kinds to vocal solos, duets and trios to
instrumental numbers was the scope of
the program.
The highlight of the evening was when
the guest artist performed. After a year
of voice lessons from Mr. Karpenko, Mr.
Sudds sang his rendition of "How to
Embarass Yourself in Front of I 000
People." At least that's the way it ended
up!
Amateur Hour 1977 was a great success,
and a lot is due to the good stage
crew and P.A. men. Also, let's not forget
Rodney Becker's spotlight.

There was excitement in the air among the Seniors
during the weekend of November 18-20, 1977. This
special weekend was Senior Recognition, an event
totally devoted to the Seniors of 1978.
The program started friday night with Vespers.
There was a speech Choir led by Mr. Heisey and singing
by Cellirose Johnson, Jan Egbert, and Christy
Simpson. The message for the evening was given by
Colin Cook.
The Church service the next day was also by the
Seniors. Scott Gardner, the Senior Class president gave
his opening remarks ; then the Choir did two songs.
The sermon was given by Robert Dunn, The Senior
Class sponsor, who spoke on keeping our eyes on
Christ and relying on God so we may become like
Him.
Saturday night the chapel was filled to capacity! It
seemed that proud parents and friends just couldn't
stay away. Linda Whiting the Senior Class vice-president
welcomed all and assured everyone of a pleasant
evening of enjoying the "great Senior Talent." There
were vocal and instrumental performances to please
those of the most discriminating tastes.
Elder C.C. Weis told of a personal experience of
how God protected him during a dangerous time in
his life. Scott Gardner gave his response, "I accept
this challenge to show the school and the whole world
that there hasn't been a class like ours before-a great
senior class!
The seniors then stood and sang their class song

Saturday night marked an event destined
to go down in the annuals of BMA as
one of the most exciting events in school
history. What am I referring to? None
other than the annual S.A. Christmas
Party.
The party started at 7:00 with games
in the gym led by Coach Reading and Mr.
Aumack. Then the students sat down and
were entertained by the Bel Canto singers
doing a rendition of "The Twelve Days
of Christmas." Then Cristy Simpson sang
a song entitled "Christmas Is A Feeling"
with a generous assist by Shirley Borsuk
and Cathy Adams. After that we heard a
tape dealing with the meaning of Christmas
from the point of view of a Christmas
tree and that jolly old man with the antlers,
oops red suit. (Sorry Steve)
Following this the students retired to
the chapel to watch cartoons. Then came
the fun part. Ice-cream Sundaes were
served from the Home-Ec. room to the
hungry clamoring students. After a round
of eating and general merrymaking the
students went back to the chapel to see a
film entitled, "One Little Indian." Of
course, the party was made complete by a
visit from St. Nicholas who "Ho Ho Hoed"
his way into the hearts of everyone there.
Santa had gifts of candy for all and a privileged
few got the honor of sitting on
Kris Kringle's lap. Some of these were
Coach Reading, Mr. Beagles, Mr. Karpenko
and Larry, Mrs. Whiting, Dr. Shultz, and
Stacy McQuistan. No one knew who Santa
was but there were some rumors of soap
Sudds and bubbles at the bottom of his
bag of toys.

On the weekend of February the
11th. and 12th., when Cupid was busy
shooting arrows and matching hearts,
the members of the Student Association
were frantically running to and
fro trying to finish last minute details.
As the clock was slowly approaching
5:45, panic and hysteria had reached
a lull-before the storm, that is.
And then it hit!!
A strange, yet familiar species was
seen approaching the Girls Dorm. The
alarm was sounded and feminine voices
could be heard chattering in a frenzy of
distress over the lack of such necessary
items as ribbons, perfume, and hairspray.
Meanwhile, masculine forms nervously
awaited that special lady. Finally
the last twosome slipped and slid as
they carefully made the short, but
treacherous journey to the cafeteria.
Then the fun began!
The men visibly relaxed as the tantalizing
smells wafted through the air
bringing back fond memories of previous
memorable cafe meals. While each
couple was making the most of the opportunities
provided, a charicaturist by
the name of Baz, was seen roaming the
room choosing victims for his next
artistic shock.

During the final moments of the
meal, the Courtesy Court was presented
by Elder Wuttke and Miss Peters,
commemorating Valentine's Day and
Courtesy Week.
As last minute pictures were being
taken, the couples started toward the
Ad. Building through wind, snow, and
ice. Quickly the Chapel filled for the
long anticipated entertainment of the
evening that was about to begin. The
movie shown, "That Darn Cat" was a
mixture of laughter, mystery, and last
but not least romance. Following the
program, tired pairs began winding
their way to that distant place called
Ellis Hall. So endeth another exciting
chapter in the life and times of BMA
lovelife.

Student Week of Prayer
"Growing in Christ," Elder Dick
Winn said, "Is not just reading the
Bible, studying, and praying, although
these three are very important."
Growing in Christ consists of
responding to what God has to say
to us through these three, also to
what He has to say to us throughout
the day as we are impressed with
events that happen around us. The
people who respond to God's signs
are those who are accepting new
challenges and concepts daily and
who are settling into the truth. At
the time of the end, when people
will be tried and tested over and
over again, these responding people
will be the ones who will stand
boldly with Christ as their leader,
and be triumphant and victorious.
Such was one of the topics Elder
Winn spoke about during the Fall
Week of Spiritual Emphasis, Oct.
7-14, 1977. Other topics included:
"Why Should We Be Good?" "Who
You Really Are", "What Faith Is
Not," "Human, Sinful, and Divine
Nature," and "Dating."
The Week of Spiritual Emphasis
concluded with a communion service,
during which Bel Canto sang.
Many faculty members and students
felt that Elder Winn's talks
were well presented and meaningful,
partly because he used a projector
to portray his lessons.
"You Will See Your Lord a Comin' "was the
theme for the Student Week of Prayer. Held January
23 through the 28th it endeavored to show the students
a dramatization of the closing scenes of Earth's
history.
There were skits dealing with the passing of the
Sunday Law and subsequent death decree as seen
through the eyes of the world. There were also scenes
of faithful Christians on the run to escape persecution.
The Student Week of Prayer culminated with a
stirring portrayal of the second coming of Christ, following
which a communion service was ,held.

AVIATION
Flying-Mans' greatest dream. With the in·
vention of the airplane this dream became a
realization. Here at B.M.A. students are being
instructed in the art of flying. Students take
it for different reasons. Some take it because
they want to be a commercial pilot, and
others to be missionaries and feel flying
would come in handy. Whatever the reason
all agree, "There is nothing like the thrill of
flying. "

SCUBA
Ever looked at divers on T.V. with
envy? Well B.M.A. has a solution, SCUBA!
Students learn the technique of underwater
diving with the aid of SCUBA gear.
Taught by trained instructors at a local
Y.W.C.A. this class undoubtedly is one of
the most interesting classes offered at
Blue Mountain Academy.

the eve of class elections and all were
anticipating the outcome that would
show them their leaders.
School opened with a bang for the
Juniors as Professor Jacobson tried in
vain to teach the class, but was rejected
when the students threw paper air-
planes, turned their desks around, and
were about to over-rule the teacher when
Mr. Aaby came to his rescue and began
asking a series of questions to eliminate
the dumb-bells from the "brains". As it
turned out, the "brains" were the Junior
Class Officers: Randy Shultz, Brenda
Lang, Debra Boyer, Sherry Wood, Laura
Mayer, and John Dancek!

Suddenly a gasp escaped from the
crowd as a .stern looking policeman walked
up to the front of the room. He proceeded
by arresting several students who
were told to gather their belongings and
go to jail. The criminals, the Sophomore

The Echoes staff. Twenty positions
coveted by the entire student body.
Now you tell a joke. Anyway, working
for the Echoes sounds like fun but
it's not all fun and games (except for
Debbie Harris).
Led by our fearless leader, Alan
("Big Reek") Newhart, the Echoes
staff labored selflessly day and night
to get the yearbook finished on time
and with the high quality typical of
B.M.A. yearbooks.
There are many things involved in
the making of the yearbook. Endless
diagrams of pages, stories to write and
of course hundreds and hundreds of
pictures. To put all this jumbled
mess together really takes a team of
highly skilled pros (if you've seen the
Echoes office you know what I mean).
So, the next time you see an Echoes
staff member remember all the work
they did to give you your yearbook
and give them a big smile and a hug
and a kiss and oops! heh heh!!!!
