Short-term Disciple Bible Study
"Invitation to New Testament"
Rev. Amy McCullough will be leading a 4-week
DIsciple Bible Study class entitled "Invitation to the
New Testament." The class will explore the writings of
the New Testament using the witness of Jesus as the
starting point. The survey of the testament looks at how
the early church was shaped by the story of Jesus and
how the church learned how to develop as disciples and
create communities of faith.
The class includes
video reflections by leading
New Testament scholars and
an emphasis on how we can
be renewed personally and
communally by the story of Jesus.
The class will be offered at two different times
during the week: Mondays at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesdays at
12 noon beginning the week of January 7. (The groups
will decide together how to handle the Martin Luther
King holiday.)
If you are interested in participating, please
contact Rev. Amy (graceumsrpas@verizon.net) or
through the church office. All participants need a
workbook, so advance signup would be helpful.
A A Different Different December
December
Wednesday, December 19
7:00 p.m.
Are you feeling lost, lonely, overwhelmed,
distanced from relatives of friends, or just need
a place and a time to take pause during the
holiday season? This worship experience is
designed for you.
Please join us for an evening to remember
as we celebrate the Christmas Season anew.
With song and candlelight we will share in
thoughtful meditation on what this season truly
means. Come to hear the message of Christmas
in a new way.
All are welcome, with open arms, to this
time of worship. We look forward to seeing
you here with us!
THANK YOU!
The Youth of Grace thank you for your support
of our first mission fundraiser for 2012-2013. As of
result of your generous giving, ALL of the children at
St. Edwin's Children's Home for Orphans in Kimende,
Kenya will be receiving new shoes for school this
Christmas.
To date we have raised $1,168.00 and donations
are still coming in. Thanks again from our Youth!
Our next project will be "Hoodies for the
Homeless" so watch for details later in January and
February.
Wishing you a great Christmas season!
An outpouring for flood buckets
Thank you to all who made Sunday, November
18th such a special Sunday in the life of Grace Church.
Following an inspiring service of worship, the reception
time included the assembling of 25 flood buckets for
United Methodist Relief efforts in the storm-ravaged
areas throughout New Jersey and New York. Thanks to
your generosity, Grace raised approximately $2800 for
this mission project. The flood buckets were picked up
on Saturday, November 24.
Since we raised more money than we needed for
the buckets, a check for the remaining balance will be
sent directly to UMCOR. Once again Grace members
demonstrated their giving, compassionate spirit. Thank
you!
NACA awarded matching grant;
drive to raise funds underway
The Northwood Appold Community Academy has
been awarded a matching grant by the France-Merrick
Foundation in the mount of $40,000. The grant will
enable NACA to purchase and install a smart board, an
LCD projector, a document camera, and a laptop
computer in every classroom at NACA I (grades K-5)
and NACA II (grades 6-10).
The grant will be released once NACA raises the
matching $40,000, then making a total of $80,000 which
will cover the purchase and installation of the state-ofthe-art
technology.
Grace Church volunteers are currently partnering
with NACA as tutors and other support personnel for
these charter schools.
Should you wish to make a tax-deductible donation
to NACA to help it reach the matching goal amount,
please make a check payable to “The Freedom and
Democracy Schools Foundation” and mail it to:
Dear Members of the Grace Church Family, [letter condensed because of space]
I wanted to send the Gilbert family’s tremendous gratitude for your support over the last several years. As you may be
aware, one of our three sons, Grayson, is the only 17-year pediatric pancreatoblastoma survivor on the planet. . . .he still
remains confident that these things are but “bumps in the road” and fights every day to remain positive in his effort to help
others.
We continue to live on the edge since losing my job in late 2008, but I have been working on my own with my own firm,
Commercial Brokerage Group Inc. Your compassionate support has helped us in so many ways--spiritually, mentally,
financially and physically. When Grayson has been hospitalized, someone from the clergy has always given time to visit and
provide the spiritual and mental support. . . . The remarkable fact about Grayson has been that even when his life is
threatened. . . ., he makes every effort to try to help others fighting chronic illnesses. I have learned so much as a father
from his tolerance and good will.
Grayson has just received approval for his 501C3 tax exempt foundation called the “Inspirational Medicine
Foundation,” which is his effort to connect chronically ill patients with their heroes through social media. He has designed
what he would like to call the “Wellness Walk,” which is a designated walking area within a hospital, in which patients can
walk and be entertained by his “information tube” and skyline window sights. Patients and families can walk together, learn
more about the hospital or city, and be entertained by visual effects and also learn about local transportation. restaurants,
and places of interest.
Grayson's latest surgery on his liver and digestive tract was very difficult. . . . After the surgery was completed, Dr.
Okolo came out and stated that “by the Grace of God" he believed he had “found the culprit." He told us that an
anastomosis in his liver was completely closed and that it was a MIRACLE that they were able to find it. . . . He stated that
he truly believed that because of our visit to the Jesus Christ statue asking for God’s guidance in helping his hands be steady
and his procedure to be precise, that his team had been able to be successful. . . . He pressed his hand together and bowed
his head, stating that he truly believed that God's hands were present in the success of the team at the operating table.
Grayson is in his last semester of his Junior Year at Towson University, which is a remarkable feat. He deals with
significant pain every day, mostly without complaint. . . . We continue to fight through so many difficult issues, but because
people like you have been there for us, we remain humble and thankful to be alive and part of this great family.
Sincerely, Steve (Gilbert)
