Management<br />
Management is the art <strong>of</strong> getting things done<br />
through people. It is integral to all business;<br />
successful people end up managing and leading<br />
wherever they work.<br />
Success in pr<strong>of</strong>essions such as law, accountancy<br />
and other areas will lead individuals to the<br />
chance, first to manage themselves and other<br />
staff and ultim<strong>at</strong>ely the chance to manage a<br />
whole organis<strong>at</strong>ion. The people who make<br />
things happen in any area <strong>of</strong> life, are managers<br />
and leaders.<br />
The study <strong>of</strong> management explores a diverse<br />
range <strong>of</strong> topics th<strong>at</strong> provide students with a<br />
broad prepar<strong>at</strong>ion for dealing with the dynamics<br />
<strong>of</strong> managing in complex organis<strong>at</strong>ions. Students<br />
will learn organis<strong>at</strong>ion-wide issues, such<br />
as competitive positioning, managing new<br />
technologies, shaping organis<strong>at</strong>ional cultures,<br />
and the skills needed by individual managers to<br />
plan, lead, organise and control these issues.<br />
The introductory management programme is<br />
structured so students receive an introduction<br />
to planning and organising as well as the<br />
human elements <strong>of</strong> managing. Further courses<br />
consider management functions providing<br />
students with an introduction to human<br />
resource management, employment rel<strong>at</strong>ions,<br />
oper<strong>at</strong>ions and supply chain management,<br />
organis<strong>at</strong>ion theory, intern<strong>at</strong>ional management,<br />
and communic<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
Students can choose to specialise in a subject<br />
area or take a generalist approach and select a<br />
variety <strong>of</strong> topics according to individual interest<br />
areas.<br />
