The periodical Feministische Studien (Feminist Studies) is one of the most important
interdisciplinary forums for gender research and research on women in the German-speaking
countries. For the past 25 years, Feministische Studien has participated in debates in the world
of research and the public sphere.
The periodical is published twice a year, in May and November.
Feministische Studien, which since its founding has accepted articles based on blind peer
review, was added by Thomson Scientific to the international Science Citation Index (SCI) in
July 2008.
Feministische Studien is also listed in the European Reference Index for the Humanities
(ERIH).
All those involved with the journal, its editors and authors, receive no payment for their
contributions, and work strictly on a voluntary basis. An honorarium for articles is
unfortunately not available. Authors receive a gratis copy of the issue in which their article
appears.
Editorial work on submissions at Feministische Studien is based on a blind peer-review
procedure. Submitted manuscripts are rendered anonymous and are sent to two reviewers for
a first opinion. If the initial reviews are positive, then all members of the editorial staff read
the manuscript. This interdisciplinary approach shapes the profile of the individual issues and
ensures a consistently high level of scholarly quality.
ensure the consistent quality of the contributions.
Manuscripts
The editors request submission of articles, contributions to discussions, information, book
reviews and documents for possible publication n the journal.
Each issue has a special theme which is announced in the preceding issue. Please consult our
home page under News/Call for Paper to learn what thematic focus areas are planned. In each
issue, there is also a discussion forum, where debates of current interest are introduced or
continued. The section „Außer der Reihe” provides a space for topics that are “out of the
ordinary“.
Preparing your manuscript for submission
Please adhere to the following guidelines:
1. We only consider submissions of original articles, not previously published. If you have
submitted the article elsewhere as well, please inform us of this, since we, like other academic
journals, discourage multiple submissions.
2. Please submit the file as word-doc or rtf. Send as attached file to:
manuskripte@feministische-studien.de
3. Please attach a separate file with a brief bio, maximum 5 lines (along with your address,
telephone no. and email address).
4. Submission deadline: for the May issue is July 1 of the preceding year, for the November
issue, 1 January of the year of possible publication.
5. The maximum length of a ms. is 40,000 characters with spaces for major articles, including
notes and references. Articles longer than this cannot be accepted.
6. Articles in German should follow the rules for reformed German orthography.
7. The journal uses a blind peer review procedure for evaluating submissions, and this
procedure preserves full anonymity of the authors and reviewers. That also holds for articles
submitted for an issue with a special theme. The decision on acceptance or rejection of a
submission, and on possible revision and re-submission, is taken at a meeting of the editorial
staff (2x a year, in May and November) in a democratic vote. We then notify the author of the
decision. If revision is advised, you have approximately six weeks for a possible reworking of
the article and re-submission.
8. We send page proofs to the author for a final check, but no changes in content are possible
at this point, just correction of small errors.
9. Quotations
Quotations of 1-5 lines can be included in the running text. Quotations of six lines and more
should be separated from the text by an empty line and then put in italics.
Notes should be styled as footnotes at the bottom of the respective page. These notes should
be used to supplement content, not for bibliographical references. Those should appear only
in the bibliography.
2
Here an example, including a brief quote:
Praktiziert werden sollte dies beispielsweise in und durch Frauen-
Selbsterfahrungsgruppen, die einem Konzept feministischer Bewusstseinsarbeit folgten
(vgl. z.B. Schenk 1980; Frauen 1975; Dackweiler 1995).Diese Consciousness-Raising
Gruppen waren „Analysetechnik, Organisationsstruktur, praktische Methode und ein
spezifischer Produktionsprozess feministischer Öffentlichkeit“ zugleich
(Dackweiler/Holland-Cunz 1991, 108f.)
The following style rules should be followed in putting together the bibliography:
• Books
Jüdin aus der Romantik. Munich.
10. The revised ms. should be accompanied by an abstract (in English) of 8-10 lines, plus 3-5
keywords.
