GOLDEN GAMES (Senior Games) 

Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to 

compete in the Federal Way Community Center's 

Golden Games. Many of the surrounding senior 

centers will be bringing groups to compete 

in the day's events. This day of fun and 

competition is open to seniors with all abilities 

as we will have events for everyone. Some 

of the events include: pickleball, swimming, 

bridge, Wii bowling, and a spelling bee. Price 

includes registration in all events, t-shirt, lunch, 

and awards.

NEW ACTIVITIES 

Are you interested in joining other seniors to 

play chess, cribbage, or billiards at the Federal 

way Community Center? Please call us at 253- 

835-6925 and let us know. If there is enough 

response, we will start regular sessions this Fall. 

BEGINNING LINE DANCING 

Come on down and get in on the excitement. 

This drop-in class teaches the basics of line 

dancing. Don't miss your chance to get some 

exercise and meet some new people. Everyone 

is welcome. Please wear comfortable shoes. 

There is a $1.00 drop in fee per class. 

Mondays from 1 - 2pm, 

Thursdays from 1:30 - 2:30pm and 

OPEN PICKLEBALL FOR SENIORS 

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays: 

8:30am - 12:00pm. From 8:30 - 10:30am, the 

courts will be reserved for senior play only. 

Senior play is de�ned as participants 50 years of 

age and older. Players must be at least 50 years 

of age in order to play between the hours of 8:30 

- 10:30am From 10:30am - 12:00pm, the courts 

will be available for open play. Seniors and all 

others are welcome to play during the open 

play hours of 10:30am - 12:00pm. This exciting 

paddle sport is a mixture of tennis, badminton, 

and ping pong. It is played on a court the same 

size as a conventional badminton doubles court 

with a three foot high net. It is easy to learn 

and equipment is provided. If you have never 

played the game, a nice friendly group of senior 

participants will teach you. There is a $2 drop-in 

fee per session or you may pay the quarterly fee.

BINGO 

Mondays - 10:30am -11:45am All seniors are 

welcome! $1 for every four cards. 

BRIDGE FOR BEGINNERS 

If you've never played Bridge before and would 

like to learn, this is the class for you. Taught by 

an experienced tournament Bridge player who 

loves the game. Wednesdays, 1:00-4:00pm at 

Federal Way Community Center. There is a $2.00 

drop-in fee per day to play. 

BRIDGE PLAYER'S GROUP 

On Monday afternoons from 1:00-4:00pm, join 

other bridge players for relaxed play at all skill 

levels. An experienced tournament player and 

organizer will be here to teach and facilitate 

play. Everyone is welcome to play. There is a 

$2.00 drop-in fee per day to play. 

SENIORS DOING ART 

Join us on Friday mornings from 9:00 - 10:30am 

for art with seniors. You'll draw, sketch, and 

paint all kinds of projects. Art instruction is 

provided. This is a drop-in class with a whole 

new adventure every week. There is a $1.50 

drop-in fee per class. 

SENIOR BOOK CLUB 

Join us every Friday from 3:30pm - 5:00pm, at 

the Federal Way Community Center, for English 

Tea or co�ee as we discuss di�erent books. 

Drop in fee is $1.00. 

MEMOIR WRITING 

Become inspired and supported as you discover 

the wealth of material you have in your own 

life and memories. Find meaning from your 

experiences, and capture it in writing. Drop-in 

Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm. There is a $2.00 

drop-in fee per class attended. 


Nutrition 

HOT LUNCH PROGRAM 

Mondays and Fridays at 12pm. Please stop 

in and join us for lunch. Our chef is great and 

always welcoming. If you haven't had lunch 

with us for awhile, come and give us another 

try! For participants over 62 years of age there 

is a $3.00 suggested donation for all lunches 

served. For all other participants under 62 years 

of age a charge of $5.75 is required. 

KOREAN ELDER LUNCH PROGRAM 

Traditional Korean meals are served every 

Tuesday and Thursday at 12pm. The 

suggested donation is $3.00. In addition to 

the lunch program, the Evergreen Club provides 

supportive services to Korean seniors to help 

sustain them in the community. English as a 

second language, social work, socialization 

activities, and more. 

MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM 

Frozen home-delivered meals are available for 

persons age 60 and older who are unable to 

leave their home or have di�culty shopping 

or preparing nutritious meals. The suggested 

donation per meal is $3.00. No eligible 

participant will be denied meals if unable 

to make a contribution. Liquid nutritional 

supplements such as Ensure and Ensure Plus 

are also available through the program. Call

Senior Classes 

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM 

AARP o�ers this eight hour course on driving for 

adults age 50 and above. All work will be in a 

classroom setting. Participants who complete 

the course will receive a 2-3 year certi�cation. 

Present the certification to your insurance 

company and receive a discount. There will be 

a $14 material fee payable to the instructor on 

the �rst day of class (make the check to AARP).

SENIOR WALK AND FIT 

Join us for this full body workout tailored to 

meet the needs of seniors. We'll meet twice a 

week on the indoor track to walk, jog, or run. 

Between laps, we'll do a number of di�erent 

strength exercises that will improve the mind,

TAI CHI FOR HEALTH 

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese system of nonstrenuous 

movements that focus the mind 

while conditioning the body, regardless of 

age or physical ability, practicing Tai Chi can 

improve balance and coordination, increase 

energy and stamina, reduce stress, calm the 

mind and improve overall health. This class will 

teach the simpli�ed 8-form set (approved by the 

CDC as proven for preventing falls) and progress 

to the traditional Yang style short/24-form set,

Yoga has many health bene�ts for people of 

all ages and can be adapted for most people. 

This is a Gentle Yoga class that is respectful of 

our joints, emphasizing safety and comfort, 

yet challenges us to stretch and strengthen 

for overall well-being. The class will o�er a 

range of poses appropriate for beginners and 

challenging enough for those who have some 

experience with yoga. People with medical 

conditions are encouraged to check with their

HYDE SHUTTLE SERVICE 

The Hyde Shuttles offer free door-to-door 

service throughout the Federal Way city 

limits, transporting riders to the Federal Way 

Community Center, grocery shopping, the 

library, bank, to visit a friend, cultural and social 

activities, medical appointments, or any local 

errands. Riders 55 and older are eligible and 

can register by phone; there is no application 

to fill out or in-person eligibility screening. 

Riders may request service up to 30 days in 

advance and same day service on a space 

available basis. The Shuttles are lift-equipped 

for people who have di�culty using stairs or use 

a mobility aid. Hours of operation are 9am to 

4pm. The Shuttles are free, although donations 

are accepted. 

FINANCIAL ADVICE 

Claire Bailey, Certified Financial Planner, is 

available for seniors by appointment on the 

�rst Wednesday of each month from 1-3pm. 

Ms. Bailey provides FREE one-on-one private 

advice on taxes, money management, �nancial 

planning, trust insurance, and pension. Please 

call 253-835-6925 for an appointment. 

VOLUNTEER TRANSPORTATION 

Quali�ed volunteer drivers provide rides for 

seniors to medical appointments and other 

essential services. Call at least 7 days in advance. 

There is no charge for transportation service. 

This program is o�ered by Senior Services of

SENIOR RIGHTS ASSISTANCE 

The second Tuesday of each month a volunteer 

is available from Senior Rights Assistance, which 

is sponsored by Senior Services of King County, 

to meet on a one to one basis with individuals 

and provide information about advance 

planning documents, including Wills, Durable 

Powers of Attorney for Financial Matters, Powers 

of Attorney for Health Care, and Advance

BEGINNING DRAWING PEOPLE AND ANI-

Do you think you can't even draw a straight 

line? Or have you always liked to doodle and 

now you want to learn to draw a bit better? This 

class will give you some basic tips on how to do 

quick sketches of animals and people in a short 

amount of time. This is part of a series, but basic 

beginning instructions will be given for any new 

students in each class as needed. Classes are 

adjusted to accommodate various skill levels 

for younger or newer students levels as well 

as adults i.e., we start with a simple version 

of an animal and advance by stages to more 

detailed drawings. We cover a di�erent animal 

and di�erent aspect of drawing people each 

class. The class also teaches proportion and 

composition. You may bring your own materials 

(a sketch pad, HB and 2B graphite pencils, and

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY EDITING 

No matter what camera you shoot with, there 

are enhancements that your images need to 

duplicate the scene or the subject. There are 

some free and inexpensive editing software 

to achieve this. The more common ones are 

Elements and Photoshop. This class will teach 

you how to use whatever software came with 

your camera or one that you have purchased. 

Images too dark or light, lack color, lack 

sharpness and other common problems will be 

addressed. Print paper quality and surfaces will 

also be covered for the proper presentation or 

framing. A laptop with print editing software 

is recommended for this class. Software can 

be added later if you need advice what to use

CHAMPS 

Welcome to our first ever Inclusive day 

camp for children with disabilities ages 6-18! 

Our camp includes cooperative play, arts 

& craft projects, swim time, �eld trips and 

interaction with Holiday Camp. The camp will 

have a cooperative, interactive and exciting 

atmosphere. 

We have experienced sta� with both day 

camp experience, as well as experience 

working with children with disabilities. Our 

sta� to participant ratio is maintained at 1:4 

so your child will be under responsible care 

at all times. SPECIAL NOTE: A one-on-one 

assistant must be with any child who needs 

help toileting or any child who poses a safety 

threat to themselves or others. All campers 

must complete our pre-registration form. 

Please bring a swimsuit, towel and sack lunch 

every day. Daily, weekly and entire camp

be belayed by a ‘belay-cerfied’ member or guest. This class is

PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS 

Piano lessons for the beginning to advanced 

players, children and adults! Learn to play, 

or expand your skills and repertoire, in this 

friendly and encouraging environment of 

private lessons. Lessons will emphasize musical 

theory, physical technique and classical, jazz 

and ethnic styles of music. Students will be 

assigned pieces to play and practice at home. 

Instruction will advance from your current level 

and encompass all aspects of musical playing. 

All participants under 18 years of age must 

have an accompanying adult present during 

class time. Private lessons will be one half hour 

between 4pm and 9pm. Call the front desk to 

choose between lessons on Mondays or Fridays. 

Early session begins Monday, September 10, 

or Friday, September 14. Late session begins

Come check out the community center's 

indoor play gym. Drop in and let your little 

ones interact with other children, jump in our

required. Drop in fee is $3 per child, or purchase 

a $30 punchcard and get 1 free. Hours are 9:30

Preschool begins with ALPHABET EXPRESS 

where you and your child will discover how 

much fun the Alphabet can be through songs,

MISSION STATEMENT: 

The mission of the Parks, Recreation and 

Cultural Services Department is to build a 

better community through the provision and 

stewardship of parks and recreation programs 

and stewardship of parks and programs that 

enrich the lives of our citizens. 

CODE OF CONDUCT 

TRAIL USE: 

At all times and at all locations within any park, 

pedestrians shall enjoy the right-of-way over 

any animal and over any motorized or nonmotorized 

vehicle, bicycle, foot scooter, tricycle, 

skates or skateboard 

Each participant is expected 

to do the following: 

• No person shall travel in a negligent 

manner or speed in excess of 20 mph. 

Please use care and caution while sharing 

a multi use trail. 

• Normal travel should occur on the right 

side of the trail. Any user passing another 

traveling in the same direction shall pass 

on the left and give an audible warning. 

• Trail users entering or crossing the trail at 

uncontrolled points shall yield to tra�c 

on the trail. 

• Pets must be on a leash no longer than 20 

feet at all times and under control. 

• Owners are required to remove pet waste.
