Are you interested in joining other seniors to 

play chess, cribbage or billiards at the Federal

SENIOR BOOK CLUB 

Join us every Friday from 3:30-5:00pm for 

English Tea or coffee as we discuss different 

books. There is a $1.00 drop-in fee. 

BEGINNING LINE DANCING 

Come on down and get in on the excitement. 

This drop-in class teaches the basics of line 

dancing. Don’t miss your chance to get some 

exercise and meet some new people. Everyone 

is welcome. Please wear comfortable shoes. 

There is a $1.00 drop in fee per class. Mondays 

from 1- 2pm, Thursdays from 1:30-2:30pm. 

MEMOIR WRITING 

Become inspired and supported as you discover 

the wealth of material you have in your own 

life and memories. Find meaning from your 

experiences, and capture it in writing. Drop-in 

Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm. There is a $2.00 

drop-in fee per class attended. 

SENIORS DOING ART 

Join us on Friday mornings from 9:00-11:00am 

for art with seniors. You’ll draw, sketch, and 

paint all kinds of projects. Art instruction is 

provided. This is a drop-in class with a whole 

new adventure every week. There is a $1.50 

drop-in fee per class. 

OPEN PICKLEBALL FOR SENIORS 

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays 

8:30am-12:00pm. From 8:30-10:30am, the 

courts will be reserved for senior play only. 

Senior play is defined as participants 50 years 

of age and older. Players must be at least 50 

years of age in order to play between the hours 

of 8:30-10:30a.m. From 10:30am -12:00pm, the 

courts will be available for open play. Seniors 

and all others are welcome to play during 

the open play hours of 10:30am-12:00pm. 

This exciting paddle sport is a mixture of 

tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It is played 

on a court the same size as a conventional 

badminton doubles court with a three foot 

high net. It is easy to learn and equipment is 

provided. I f you have never played the game, 

a nice friendly group of senior participants will 

teach you. There is a $2 drop-in fee per session 

or you may pay the trimester fee.

BINGO 

Mondays - 10:30am -11:45am All seniors are

BRIDGE FOR BEGINNERS 

If you’ve never played Bridge before and would 

like to learn, this is the class for you. Taught by 

an experienced tournament Bridge player who 

loves the game. Wednesdays, 1:00-4:00pm at 

Federal Way Community Center. There is a $2.00 

drop-in fee per day to play or you may buy a 

punch card. Inquire at the front desk. 

BRIDGE PLAYER’S GROUP 

On Monday afternoons from 1:00-4:00pm 

at the Federal Way Community Center, join 

other bridge players for relaxed play at all skill 

levels. An experienced 

tournament player and 

organizer will be here to 

teach and facilitate play. 

Everyone is welcome to 

play. There is a $2.00 

drop-in fee per day to

Nutrition 

HOT LUNCH PROGRAM 

Mondays and Fridays at 12pm. Please stop 

in and join us for lunch. Our chef is great and 

always welcoming. If you haven’t had lunch 

with us for a while, come and give us another 

try! For participants over 62 years of age there 

is a $3.00 suggested donation for all lunches 

served. For all other participants under 62 years 

of age a charge of $5.75 is required. 

KOREAN ELDER LUNCH PROGRAM 

Traditional Korean meals are served every 

Tuesday and Thursday at 12pm. The suggested 

donation is $3.00. In addition to the lunch 

program, the Evergreen Club provides 

supportive services to Korean seniors to help 

sustain them in the community. English as a 

second language, social work, socialization 

activities, and more. 

MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM 

Frozen home-delivered meals are available for 

persons ages 60 and older who are unable to 

leave their home or have difficulty shopping 

or preparing nutritious meals. The suggested 

donation per meal is $3.00. No eligible 

participant will be denied meals if unable 

to make a contribution. Liquid nutritional 

supplements such as Ensure and Ensure Plus 

are also available through the program. Call

Special Services 

FINANCIAL ADVICE 

Claire Bailey, Certified Financial Planner is 

available for seniors by appointment on the 

first Wednesday of each month from 1-3pm. 

Ms. Bailey provides FREE one-on-one private 

advice on taxes, money management, financial 

planning, trust insurance, and pension. Please 

call 253-835-6925 for an appointment. 

VOLUNTEER TRANSPORTATION 

Qualified volunteer drivers provide rides for 

seniors to medical appointments and other 

essential services. Call at least 7 days in advance. 

There is no charge for transportation service. 

This program is offered by Senior Services of 

Seattle/King County. Please call 206-448-5740 

for more information. 

SENIOR RIGHTS ASSISTANCE 

The second Tuesday of each month a volunteer 

is available from Senior Rights Assistance, which 

is sponsored by Senior Services of King County, 

to meet on a one to one basis with individuals 

and provide information about advance 

planning documents, including Wills, Durable 

Powers of Attorney for Financial Matters, Powers 

of Attorney for Health Care, and Advance 

Directives to Physicians. Please call 253-835-

Senior Classes 

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM 

AARP offers this eight hour course on driving for 

adults ages 50 and above. All work will be in a 

classroom setting. Participants who complete 

the course will receive a 2-3 year certification. 

Present the certification to your insurance 

company and receive a discount. There will be 

a $14 material fee payable to the instructor on 

the first day of class (make the check to AARP).

start date to insure a space.

YOGA FOR SENIORS 

Yoga has many health benefits for people of all 

ages and can be adapted for most people. This is 

a Gentle Yoga class that is respectful of our joints, 

emphasizing safety and comfort, yet challenges 

us to stretch and strengthen for overall well-being. 

The class will offer a range of poses appropriate for 

beginners and challenging enough for those who 

have some experience with yoga. People with 

medical conditions are encouraged to check with 

their health care provider to be sure this activity is 

safe for their situation.

The Federal Way Community Center is an eligible 

site for Silver Sneakers. This gives adults 65+ 

on Medicare with the following supplemental 

health plans a free membership to the facility:

meet the needs of seniors. We’ll meet twice a

TAI CHI FOR HEALTH 

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese system of nonstrenuous 

movements that focus the mind 

while conditioning the body. Regardless of 

age or physical ability, practicing Tai Chi can 

improve balance and coordination, increase 

energy and stamina, reduce stress, calm the 

mind and improve overall health. This class will 

teach the simplified 8-form set (approved by the 

CDC as proven for preventing falls) and progress 

to the traditional Yang style short/24-form set, 

as time permits. Loose, comfortable clothing 

is recommended.

days. We have fun on all our journey’s. Register

gym. Drop in and let your little ones (ages 10 

months to 5 years) interact with other children, 

jump in our inflatable bounce house, while

Finally, DISCOVERY KIDS prepares children 

to head into kindergarten. Class will include 

writing, language, arts & crafts, movement and

An annual registration fee of $30 for each

ROACH Gymnastics was established in 1997. 

After years of teaching for other gyms, both

Dance Recital 

The spring Dance Recital will be on Wednesday, 

June 6, and Thursday, June 7, at the Knutzen 

Family Theatre. Dance recital tickets can be 

purchased for this event. Limit of 4 tickets per 

performer. If you need more tickets, please ask 

to be placed on the wait list. The waiting list is 

called on 5/28/12. Tickets are to be picked up 

at will call at the Theatre the night of the recital.

Big Horn Sheep need to know their way around a mountain, 

so we designed this class. We will teach your child climbing 

techniques depending on their experience and capabilities. 

This class covers equipment use, climbing commands, tying a 

figure eight and follow-through, and climbing to the top of 

the wall in addition to climbing progress reports. Your child 

will leave the class not only a better climber, but a smarter 

climber! 

No experience necessary. Belayers and 

climbing equipment provided.

Little Mountain Goats (Ages 4-6) Rock Climbing 

Does your 4-6 year old already climb on everything? Here’s 

a fun class that focuses on fundamentals of rock climbing 

techniques. Your Little Mountain Goat will learn climbing 

commands, climbing wall rules, play climbing games and 

climb the wall at their own pace. 

No experience necessary. Belayers and 

climbing equipment provided.

Intro to Climbing (Ages 13+) 

Is climbing something that you have been interested in 

trying out? Have you climbed before but want to get more 

out of it? If so, Intro to Climbing is for you. This class gives 

you the skills to be a better climber and enjoy this alternative 

workout. Intro to climbing also satisfies the pre requisite to 

be belayed by a ‘belay-cerfied’ member or guest. This class is 

great for teens and adults. 

Passholders: $10;

Belay Certification Class (Ages 18+) 

Get more climbing time in for your friends and family by 

becoming a certified belayer. Course includes knot tying, 

belaying techniques and set-up, belay commands, fall 

simulation, climbing technique instruction and a follow-up 

test. Ages 18+ only please. Final test will be administered 2 

days or more after the class when fully compacity of course is 

demonstrated. Becoming belay certified will give you access 

to our ‘Open Belay’ times (see above).

SUMMER CRAZE & COMMOTION 

Our Summer Day Camp is simply the best! 

Your child will have an incredible summer at 

the Federal Way Community Center. Each week 

we go on a field trip and there will be plenty 

of time for swimming, climbing the pinnacle, 

games, and crafts. Early drop off begins at 6:30 

a.m. and pick up ends at 6:00 p.m. We have a 

1:10 staff to child ratio. A $50 NON refundable, 

NON transferable deposit will hold your child’s 

space. The balance will be due on Monday, 7 

days prior to session start date. Bring a sack 

lunch, drink and snack each day. Each camper 

must pay a one time registration fee of $20 for 

the entire summer. Please use ID# 34392. Craze 

is for children entering 1st grade to 4th grade.

ROACH Gymnastics was established in 1997.

a gaming system that will be used for some

swimming, and take your input for an additional

teens going into 7th to 10th grade. A one-time 

registration fee of $20 is good for the entire

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY EDITING 

No matter what camera you shoot with, there 

are enhancements that your images need to 

duplicate the scene or the subject. There are 

some free and inexpensive editing software 

to achieve this. The more common ones are 

Elements and Photoshop. This class will teach 

you how to use whatever software came with 

your camera or one that you have purchased. 

Images too dark or light, lack color, lack 

sharpness and other common problems will be 

addressed. Print paper quality and surfaces will

Adult golf lessons are being offered at Twin 

Lakes Golf & Country Club in Federal Way 

beginning in April. All instruction will be

for two weeks for adults, seniors and women. 

Junior sessions will be one-hour each. If you do

will be directed to the basic fundamentals of

Piano lessons for the beginning to advanced

Inclusive programs provide an opportunity 

for people with and without disabilities to 

participate together. These programs focus on 

the abilities we all have to contribute to our 

community and to share with one another. 

The City of Federal Way Parks, Recreation and 

Cultural Services department is committed to 

facilitating the inclusion of our citizens while 

celebrating our differences as individuals. 

Any participant who has not been picked up 

30 minutes after the stated arrival time will 

be charged a $5 late fee. An additional $5 will 

be charged for every 15 minutes after that. 

Participants will not be allowed to register for future 

activities until all fees have been paid. Trip leaders 

will arrive back at the Community Center at least 15 

minutes prior to the stated arrival time barring any 

extenuating circumstances. Please schedule Access 

rides accordingly as this will not be an acceptable 

excuse for late pick-ups.

CODE OF CONDUCT 

TRAIL USE: 

At all times and at all locations within any park, 

pedestrians shall enjoy the right-of-way over 

any animal and over any motorized or nonmotorized 

vehicle, bicycle, foot scooter, tricycle, 

skates or skateboard 

Each participant is expected 

to do the following: 

• No person shall travel in a negligent 

manner or speed in excess of 20 mph. 

Please use care and caution while sharing 

a multi use trail. 

• Normal travel should occur on the right 

side of the trail. Any user passing another 

traveling in the same direction shall pass 

on the left and give an audible warning. 

• Trail users entering or crossing the trail at 

uncontrolled points shall yield to traffic 

on the trail. 

• Pets must be on a leash no longer than 20 

feet at all times and under control. 

• Owners are required to remove pet waste.
