Welcome to the Junkyard (you
can also call it the Upper Primary
Newspaper). My name is
Nastassja and I’m in P7S. I am the
proud editor of the Junkyard this
term. The Junkyard is a fun
newspaper filled with comics,
opinions, information and lots
of other cool stuff!!! We have
16 reporters, writers working on this edition
of the newspaper and only 7 activity days to
finish. It doesn’t matter how old or young you
are you can still enjoy and laugh while reading
this newspaper. I’m sure that when you finish
reading our articles and interviews you will
beg your parents to sign you up for it. This
newspaper is only for UPPER PRIMARY! That’s
why it’s called the upper primary newspaper.
To be part of the newspaper is soooooooo
much fun! We are proud of our Newspaper
because this year it’s going into the TISA website.
We are just so proud of what has happened
to the Junkyard. If you’re in the newspaper
then it’s your job to make it fun and interesting,
not boring. So if you got the guts to do

Miss Irada - Junkyard’s Right Hand,
Left Hand, our Everything!
The Junkyard and its entire staff of young reporters
would like to thank Miss Irada for her dedication, her
skills, and her endless hours of formatting the newspaper.
Without Miss Irada the Junkyard would not
have reached completion. Her dedication went beyond
the box as she took maternity leave and continued
to format the newspaper until completion.
A heart full thank you to you Miss Irada. We look
forward to being with you as the Junkyard continues
in 2012-2013.

What does music mean to you? Well I am going to tell you what music means to me. Music is one
of the most beautiful things to me. I can just listen to music the whole day without going to the
bathroom or eating or even sleeping. You can listen to music or you can play a musical instrument
or you can just sing. I do all of them. I play the piano, I sing, and I listen to music. I have been playing the piano
for 5 years now and I think I am pretty good at it. I think it will help me in the future. I think music is my passion.
I don’t think I have such a good voice but I still love singing. So you shouldn’t stop singing just because you
don’t have a very good voice. Music means the world to me.

The Secondary School had a fashion show with all handmade original
fashions by M1 boys and girls.
They have been working on this for a long time. The designs
were amazing and their make up just added to it all.
Everybody was delighted at the effort and the results of
the fashion show.
The following is an interview with Mina, a P6 student
who went to the fashion show.
1q.Did you like it?
1a. Yes of course. What wasn’t there to like? The kids were dynamic, out of this world and so
confident.

2a. Not at all. These students impressed me with their way of looking, way of looks

Did you know I have to dogs too? Well now you know one of these dogs name is sunny he is
a boy and he loves to play but if he doesn’t know a person that comes to my house he will
bite only if he’s open and my second dog is molly she is a girl she is gentle, deaf and quite my mom is happy with
molly because she gentle and quite but she also likes sunny because he is fun and by the way sunny and molly are
married they had 8 puppies. I actually had 10 but two died from birth how sad. :( By: Mina P6N

We have a special day at our school called Peace Day!!! On that day we made a peace sign on
our school field. First we did it in our class and then, we did it on the field. We also needed to
wear the peace sign t-shirts and necklaces. Peace means freedom but we weren’t celebrating
this only; we were also celebrating fun. Peace day is not boring. Well, we don’t celebrate peace
day in winter or in the rainy days because we need to go on to the field and create the peace
sign.

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when some
one says peace to you? Well the first thing that comes to my
mind when someone says peace is the peace sign, and I have
no idea why. A man named Jeremy had the idea of an
International Peace Day. Peace day is not celebrated by the
whole world yet. But our school thought that we could start celebrating it before
the rest of the world. Peace day is going to be celebrated by the whole world next year in 2012. Peace
day is on the 21 st of September. Our school created a huge human peace sign with our bodies on the field
with the whole primary. I have to admit it was very cool.
Next year we should definitely do more things than just a peace sign. We also had a minute of silence. We
can make decoration all around the school with peace signs and write things about peace. These things you
can also do at home, not only at school.
I think our school was the first that celebrated peace day in Baku so in 30028 when people will read a history
book it will say “The first people who celebrated peace day in Baku, Azerbaijan was a school named “The International
School of Azerbaijan” and that’s how we will be famous. Peace is not just for a day in school. Peace
is for real. Peace is for a friendlier world. Peace is for harmony in our family. Peace begins at home.

Every year the Tisa Titans travel to Dubai to participate in the 7’s stadium in Dubai for a tournament
with rugby teams from all over our region. Our teams practice each weekend from August
until Tournament time. About two weeks before the trip they all meet in the school lunch hall,
discuss the trip and get their kit for Dubai (and eat pizza) .There are all different age groups like
(Under) U11’s or U9’s .They go to Dubai for days and stay in the Premier Inn hotel.
The first day they play a friendly match of rugby then have a swim and a barbeque at a place
with a pool and restaurant. The next day we go to the seven’s stadium on a bus and play a few
games of rugby and we do the same the next day .The next day we play some rugby and have an
awards ceremony. At night we all go to another hotel and have an award ceremony just for the
Tisa Titans where they award things like most improved or most valuable player. After that we fly
back to Baku and practice until next year. Every week we practice twice on Tuesday and
Saturday. All of the Tisa Titans players work very hard to win the tournament.

TISA International Day! Wow! On international day all the classes went to a variety
of different dances. Everybody brought a variety of food from many countries.
My favorite dance was the Latin American dance and I did like the other dances too.
The Latin American dance was hip, with a funky beat which allowed me to make
some great dance moves. At the beginning of the day we went to an assembly and
the boys and girls from different countries carried flags from their countries. But a
lot of people got to carry a flag. It was awesome because a lot of people were in
their national costume.
Some of the entertainment was dancing and eating the
different food from around the world. They would put
different classes together and they would work together
in the dance. Then when it was time to eat we
went on our own. There were so many different things
from around the world and from 41 different nationalities
represented at TISA. Then we met back and
started to dance again. It was a very fun day I hope you
did not miss it!!!! Everybody at least had got to experience four dances. It was all so much fun!
Christmas pets
Christmas pets are really cute and they are also so adorable when they dress up for Christmas. Take a look at this.
The cats go really crazy about it.
You know Christmas is really fun for children and the same with pets. They also celebrate Christmas by dressing up!
You know sometimes pets get presents like we do. Look at how happy they are when they get presents

The owners put a Christmas hat. They also play crash in the snow
The owners keep on putting clothes on them and they do not like it they already have their fur.

Interview with Mr. Sawyer
Mr. Sawyer is the primary music teacher, but also teaches drama. He can play
many instruments.
Q: Why do you enjoy being a music teacher?
A: Because I love music and I like teaching it.
Q: What instruments do you play?
A: Piano, guitar, base, drum, viola, cello, recorder.
Q: Did you always want to be a music teacher? Why?
A: No, because I didn’t plan on being a music teacher.
Q: Were you ever in a band?
A: Yes two, “Nerve “and “Addicted to Jesus”.
Leisure Activities That I Would Love To Do But Can’t
Joachim P8M
I will be explaining the leisure activities that I would love to do and
the reasons why I can’t do them. The activities will be under these
three categories. Cost, age and that my parents wouldn’t let me.
Firstly, cost. Cost can be a major factor in leisure activities. One of
the leisure activities that I would love to do is Skydiving in the Alps.
Cost is one of the factors that is preventing me to enjoy this. It’s
expensive because you need to rent a plane, rent or buy the equipment
and hire a trainer if you’re a beginner like me. All that will
cost around $5,000 to $10,000 or even higher. Another activity is
that I want to go to space. Cost is also a major factor for going
into space. To go into space it will cost around $200,000 per person.
That is why cost is a major factor that is preventing me to do
certain activities.
My next reason is age. Age can get quite annoying when it comes to leisure for specific activities.
For example, I’ve always want to drive a motorcycle since I was 5. Now all I have to do is
wait for 7 more years until I’m 18, get my license and I can have the freedom to drive. I would
also love to be on the TV show “Total Wipeout” but again the age limit comes in. It’s says that
the contestants must be 18 or older. So I’m just going to have to be patient.
My final reason is that my parents won’t let me. My parents not letting me is a factor that restricts
me from these activities. I would love to go on the highest bungee jump ever in Bristol
jumping off 75m. My mom won’t let me go bungee jumping. I even asked my mom if I could and
she would never let me. Another activity is cliff diving. Again, I would love to do this but yet
again my parents wouldn’t let me which really bugs me.
In conclusion I’m going to try to convince my parents, save up money and wait until I get older.
In the mean time I’ll be looking forward for the activities to come and to be able to enjoy them.

My pet is a dog. It is a male. His name is Aziz. He has a black body and brown face, tale
and legs. He is very funny. He likes to eat bones and his own food. He likes to play with his bone and, with
people!!! He is a little puppy. Sometime he likes to be with other dogs or little puppies like him or, even
smaller puppies. Aziz is two years old.
He likes to play with his ball and my shoes. I give him my old shoes. He also bites
my hand. His teeth are wobbling!!!
He has a little sweet bone to eat it. He has a big bed to sleep in. He also likes when
people scratch him below his ear.
He always barks in the late morning and, sometimes wakes up
my mom. He has a special place to sleep and play in. He sleeps in
a special bed and plays in my garden. He doesn’t like when people
touch his nose, ears, lips and feet. If it’s hot, he is sick.
Open House in P6
In open houses our moms and dads come to see and visit our classroom. Also to see what we are learning and
what we learned.
In our open house we could do presentations, showing our portfolio, doing
some experiments.
Our usual audience is our parents. Also the nannies and the drivers can
come; they can take many pictures and they could give it to our moms
and dads.
The Open house is actually for the children
who will explain to their parents their learning
and their parents will know how well they
are doing. Also they will know what they
could improve upon .

The Open house that P6 did was about ancient civilizations. I was working on Persia. And it was interesting and
also it was little bit similar to Azerbaijan. I went to the Library and I showed my mom the work that I did on my

My friend Sude rocks. She is an amazing friend and she is very talented. She is an actress in the
making, a great singer and an amazing piano player. She is funny, smart and will always be
there for you (sometimes) plus she’s pretty. She is so kind and nice to me. We are in the same
class although her bestest friend ever is Amina. I know I’m one of her best friends. She has a
cat called Apples, a brother called Can (pronounced Jan) and two wonderful parents. That is
why Sude ROCKS!

The P7 classes are about to finish their unit, sharing the planet. In this unit we had to choose a subject (a
crisis) to write about. Then we chose 3 stakeholders. We wrote scripts and interviewed their stakeholders.
We ended up with a video on stopping the crisis. This process was long and relentless.
In art, we are drawing action figures. We found photos from the internet and copied them. We cut the
people out of the pictures and drew them a border.
In Performing Arts, we are learning to play the recorder. We all studied the same song and played it as an
orchestra.

Once upon a time there were two puppies. They were homeless dogs.
They were best friends having been together since they were born. Their
mom got taken away when they were just puppies. A family took her but the family did not see
the puppies so they got left behind. The puppies lived a hard life.
Until one day in December, on a stormy night a couple walked by. The couple stopped and looked at the puppies. The
couple thought, ‘poor little puppies out in this cold weather’. So what the couple did was they picked the puppies up and
they took them home. The puppies did not know what was happening. They were very scared. But when they got inside
they were so warm that they feel asleep. The next day they woke up, and the couple was waiting for them so they could
feed them. So the New Year passed.
Then the lady got pregnant. But the puppies did not know. So when the day came a lot was happening. The puppies
heard screaming. They went in to the room to see what was wrong. It was just the lady needed to get to
the hospital. So they took the puppies to their next door neighbor’s house so they could get taken care
of. But the puppies did not know who the people were. They thought they were never going to see them
again.
So the women went to the doctor and had her baby. Then when she got back she was so excited to see
the puppies. She ran over to them and hugged them. The puppies were so glad to see her. The women
showed the puppies the baby. They liked the baby. So they lived happily ever after.

Are you thinking about where to go for the holidays? Here are some fun places to go for the holidays!
London
London has almost everything. There’s the Big Ben, and cool theme parks.
There are shows, musicals and plays. There are lots of cool museums.
Did you know that the words biggest Ferris wheel is in London? It’s
called the “London’s Eye”. The best time to go to London is in spring
and summer.
Paris
Paris is a great place to go. There is fun stuff for children and adults. For
children, there’s Disneyland. Adults could visit the Eiffel Tower and De
Louvre museum. The best time to go to Paris is autumn.
Dubai
Dubai is really fun. There are 2 big malls: The Dubai Mall and The Emirates Mall.
In the Dubai Mall, parents could simply drop their children to Kidzania and
start shopping. In the Emirates Mall, you could ski in Ski Dubai. The world’s
tallest building in Dubai. In Dubai, you could also go to water parks. The 2
best water parks are Wild Wadi and Atlantis. You could go to Dubai in any
season except summer.

Istanbul
Istanbul is a really interesting place. There are lots of fun malls, like Metro City,
Tepe Nautilus, Istinya Park, Istanbul Sapphire and Capitol. There’s a Wax Museum
in Istanbul Sapphire, the tallest building in Turkey. There’s also a Dinosaur Museum.
The Bosphorus Bridge is one of the places that you could travel from Europe to
Asia.

A: I enjoy teaching P7S because they’re very hard workers.

A: P8. But next year so I could have my old students again!
Q: As a student, were you good at school?
A: Sometimes. Some subjects were too easy so I misbehaved to entertain myself.

A: Primary: Math, because it was like a maze, Middle School: Science, because I liked the cool
experiments and for High School: Grammar, because it was also like a maze.
Q: What was your least favorite subject in school and why?
A: Writing, because I’m not creative.

A: Jem, from the TV show Jem and the Holograms, because she had
her own rock band.

This awesome game is called The Sims 3. In this game, you are god! Control your family and make
them do anything, from fulfilling their basic needs like eating and sleeping to getting married and
having children. Create your character from scratch or use a pre-made persona. Gain their skills;
skills go from athletic to writing skills. Get them a career; careers include being a police man, a doctor
and much more. You also could choose traits for your person, including the nurturing trait and the shy
trait. There are also additional games to load to become an actress, or an explorer, or anything else. These
extra games (In the order they came out) are World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets

about Favorite Shoes
Most people do not care if a shoe fits. But
some people do. The shoe the teachers like
the most are boots. This is different than I
thought it would be. I thought it would be high
heels because most women wear them. For
men I thought it would be sneakers. Most men
wear shoes like that. I also see that most of
the shoes do not have any ticks because there
are different kinds of shoes around the world.

Cake Boss is an American TV series. The main
characters are Buddy Valastro, his mother, four
sisters, and three brothers. They have a shop in
Hoboken, New Jersey. What happens in the show?
They show how they make their cakes and all
trouble they have. They do all kinds. Not only
cake. They make cookies, cupcakes, tarts, pies and
all kinds of stuff. Every episode a customer comes and tells what kind of cake they
want. Maybe they want a cake for a birthday party, for an opening of a new shop,
for a normal party and all kinds of things. In one episode they had to do a huge
flip flop ( of course not a real flip flop. A flip flop made out of cake) and it was so

Our community is like our family! They provide us our needs like food and water. The P8’s have
studied about our community and they have also studied who is in our community in order to
understand it. In our community there are teachers, teacher assitants,the cooks, the cleaners, the
tecnicians, bus drivers, gardeners and office workers.
The P8N class made little cards saying the different peoples names and when the other classes came
we shared ideas on how to make all the people in our community more visible. Some of the ideas were
making advertisements, making graffiti on the walls or even telling people how important it is to know
our community in an assembly.
We are proud of our continuing work in making everybody in our community more visible.

Miss Heather Goodman
Heather Goodman has been a teacher in The International School of Azerbaijan. She has been
in TISA for 6 years and has been a P5 teacher and the assistant principal. Miss Heather had a
fatal sickness and was getting better and better every day but she started getting sick again
and flew back home to Australia to get the medical attention she needed. Sadly she passed
away on Friday the second of March at five o’clock in the morning.
As a tribute there has been a board put outside of the art room where people can pin cards
they made and lay flowers for Miss Heather; in a matter of hours the board was overflowing
with student memories and tributes. She would never ever forget to say hello in the morning,
and she would never forget to give us a hug. We hope that she rests in peace. You will always
be in our hearts.
Miss Heather was an inspiration for us; we looked up to her because she helped everyone
and would always put others before herself and was one of the kindest people we have ever
met.
She was one of the most outgoing people we’ve ever met and she would never give up on
anything. She was a fighter. Rest in peace Miss Heather.

singer, an acrobat, a magician or a DJ. Also
you can become friends with people and Simport.
Simport is when you sent a request to
your friend and ask them to let you play with their Sims. STARLIGHT
SHORES is a world you can get with Sims Showtime. With the Katy
Perry version you get more new items like hairstyle, fruit costumes, guitar,
fruit-themed stage props, an exclusive poster. Fruit-themed stage props
shows a banana, watermelon, statue etc . but on the normal version you
get: pool tables, karaoke machines, DJ booths, new guitars, batons, microphones, spotlights,
speaker systems, pull up bars, jukeboxes, an electro-dance sphere, golf-game, domino, skeeball
game, photo booth, a golf driving range, portable MP3 players and new lighting. As with all previous
expansion packs, Showtime will include new clothing and hairstyles.
