Summer time is always a popular
time of year for rally events and
we have a load of them in store as
summer winds down and the cool
winds of fall start to blow. Over
the summer we have enjoyed some
very successful rallycross events at
PIR, especially the event in conjunction
with Rose Cups weekend. Our
annual trek to rallycross in Chehalis
is underway as of this writing but
it always a favorite. Coming up in
August is our rallycross in Astoria
on the 26th and we are trying to
find a new date in September or
October but the schedule is pretty
tight. Check the website for more
information.
August is the opening of our busier
Road Rally season. One of the
Portland area staples is the August
11th Mountains to the Sea Rally.
This year the event runs from Milwaukie
to Lincoln City and should

not an SCCA event it is a legendary
event among the locals.
September 9th is the Rally Against
Parkinson’s charity road rally. This
annual event is an SCCA Tour event
and features regularity laps around
PIR, a very simple road rally and it
all ends at Pearson Field Air Museum
in Vancouver, WA. The $25
entry fee includes the rally, dinner
and a silent auction. The silent
auction is chock full of great items;
check out the Facebook page under
2012 Rally Against Parkinsons.
October 5-7 is the grand-daddy of
road rallies, the Oregon 1000. Starting
in Portland the event runs down
the length of the state to an overnight
in Coos Bay before returning
to Albany with an amazing dinner
at Novak’s Hungarian Restaurant.
The organizers always have some
great surprises in store for competitors.
In stage rally it will be late September
when the Rally America National
circus comes back to the Pacific
Northwest with the Olympus Rally
in Olympia, WA and points west.
This is the season ending event for
2012 and should see some great
competition in several classes. Late
October is the Mount Hood Rally,
one of the most scenic stage rallies
in the country.
Summer and fall are prime time
for wringing out the cars on a good
rally event, be it rallycross, road
rally or a stage rally. Don’t let this
time of year pass you by, get out
there and RALLY!
