it along to her appointments.<br />

Webber-Schuss’ PHIL account includes her<br />

whole family, so she has also built electronic<br />

health records for her daughter (who has her<br />

same doctor) and for her husband (who has a<br />

different doctor, but one who also uses PHIL).<br />

But suppose for a moment that Webber-<br />

Schuss had been stranded, with no connections<br />

at all to any doctor who uses PHIL.<br />

Then she could still have signed up, made<br />

personal records for herself and her family,<br />

printed <strong>the</strong>m out, and showed <strong>the</strong>m to her<br />

PHIL-less doctors.<br />

But PHIL’s o<strong>the</strong>r advantages — such as e-mail<br />

access, and lab and radiology reports — would<br />

have been unavailable to her.<br />

Which is why, when she says she was an eager<br />

early adopter <strong>of</strong> PHIL, she quickly adds, “And<br />

so was my doctor, thank goodness.”<br />
