The development of Glenmoor began as a vision held by Bart and Iris Wolstein. The reality transformed 

in 1992 with the opening of Glenmoor Country Club. Throughout his book, “Crossing the Road to 

Entrepreneurship,” Bart offered many tips about life, management and business. His thoughts on giving and 

the personal rewards that are experienced Bart states “recognize and appreciate what you do get in return, 

particularly that warm and fuzzy feeling inside that you have done something worthwhile”. 

Jack Nicklaus is quoted, “His story is a testimony to the power of hard work, ingenuity and the determination 

to be the best”. If I could go back twenty years, I would have appreciated the opportunity to meet Bart Wolstein, 

and to have participated in the dedication and celebrations. Now, twenty years later, the community has 

“Discovered Glenmoor” and we as Members continue to enjoy and appreciate a unique opportunity. 

Special thanks and appreciation must be offered to the past presidents and board members who provided guidance to the 

Club. Myron has spent most of his professional career at the Club and is dedicated to the Club, Staff and Members. As Bart 

stated, “always maintain your standards for quality”. Myron has. And certainly special thanks to the Staff of Glenmoor, past 

and present. These individuals have made a difference. Of course, a VERY SPECIAL message of appreciation to Iris Wolstein. 

Her time, energy and commitment to the Club is certainly recognized! 

In closing, a heartfelt note of appreciation to the Members for supporting the Club over the past twenty years. I 

appreciate when Members have shared special memories; many of which are special social events, sharing time with friends or 

family, or establishing a successful business partnership that transcends into a lifelong friendship. My special Glenmoor 

Experience was our wedding celebration 5 years ago. We will continue to celebrate, especially during the month of July.

Manager’s Message by Myron Vernis 

As you know, this month marks the twentieth anniversary of the opening of Glenmoor’s 

Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, the centerpiece of the entire Glenmoor community. In 

this edition of the Connection, we recognize the founding Members of the Club; those who 

had the faith to become involved in a project so ambitious for Stark County, many “experts” 

were convinced it was doomed for failure. We truly appreciate and admire the support of 

those early Members. 

It really was the foresight, courage and commitment of one man that made Glenmoor 

happen. Bart Wolstein was raised in a working class family in Cleveland Heights and got his 

first job at the age of ten, selling hot dogs at Cleveland Indians games. From those humble 

beginnings, he went on to become a legend in the commercial real estate industry, founding 

one of the country’s largest and very first Real Estate Investment Trusts, Developers 

Diversified Realty Corp. On his way up, he acquired a law degree from Cleveland Marshall 

College of Law and pioneered residential development in Twinsburg and other Cleveland area 

communities. He remained committed to his Norheast Ohio roots by keeping his growing 

company in the area and becoming a major philanthropic force in our region. 

He wasn’t looking for a new project when he came upon Glenmoor, but he immediately fell in love with the property 

and the history. Again, with his prodigious vision, what we now enjoy as Glenmoor was born. He and Mrs. Wolstein 

totally dedicated themselves to creating an environment in Stark County which heretofore had only been considered for 

established resort destinations. Despite the naysayers, they forged ahead until success was achieved, and we are all 

beneficiaries of their dedication today. Probably the greatest endorsement of the verity of Mr. and Mrs. Wolstein’s efforts 

came from Jack Nicklaus when he visited on the occasion of the Club’s tenth anniversary. Not known for praise and 

superlatives, he openly told the Wolsteins and all the guests that, of all the country club projects in which he had been 

involved, Glenmoor is the only one that had achieved the vision that was presented to him initially. 

Bart Wolstein was a mentor to me in many ways. He had a big public persona but the private man was even greater. I 

was truly blessed to be associated with him for so many years. We are all truly fortunate in the way Mrs. Wolstein has 

continued his legacy.

We celebrate twenty seasons of golf at Glenmoor this July 1st. Yes, it has been twenty years since Jack Nicklaus 

played Glenmoor on the official opening day. We continue that traditional opening with our 

Anniversary Opening Day Reunion on Sunday, July 1. This event is open to all Golf Members and will 

highlight our founding Members and charter Members. Those Golf Members who were eligible to walk the 

course with Jack on July 1, 1992 will be recognized. 

We also celebrate that commemorative week with the Fourth of July celebration that has become a large 

part of the Glenmoor summer season. The Golf Shop will continue to have the open shotgun on the 

morning of the fourth, but it will have an Anniversary Fourth of July Bang! All Members of the club and 

guests are welcome to play in the event. New for the Anniversary 4th will be a $100,000 hole in one 

opportunity for contestants in the Fourth of July shotgun. All contestants in the shotgun will also receive a dozen logo golf balls as 

an anniversary gift. It is not every day that we get a chance to win 100K with one swing of the golf club, but that day is approaching! 

We will also have a throwback guest rate for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of that week of celebration. All guests of Members 

will have a 1992 rate of $75 for 18 holes of golf. I wonder what a cup of coffee cost 20 years ago, or a gallon of gas. Do you think 

we could get throwback gas prices that week? 

We have our traditional championship season this month with three significant events to plan for. The Ladies Association will 

host the President’s Cup and Glenmoor Cup on the 17th and 19th. The Men’s Association will host the Senior Club 

Championship on the 14th and 15th. The Ladies Member Guest will take place on July 9th and 10th. All registration boards are 

located at the Golf Shop for entry into these championship events. We look forward to seeing everyone honing their games in 

preparation for these events. 

As we move into the heat of the summer months, it is important to stay hydrated on the course during play. Much like a plant, 

we can wilt in the summer sun and lose our energy and focus as we play. Always keep fluids with you as you play and drink before 

you actually get thirsty. This will help you thru the later holes of your rounds this summer. Good luck as we celebrate 20 years at 

Glenmoor and as we start the championship season!

We’ll start the month of July with the Men’s Member Guest on July 7th. The ladies set the 

bar high with 30 in attendance…so be sure to invite a friend to make this a great event! Then, 

mark your calendar for a special Glenmoor tennis tradition, Breakfast at Wimbledon on 

Sunday, July 8th at 9am. Join us in the Loch Bar for a great breakfast buffet, complete with 

strawberries and cream. 

Since July is the official 20th anniversary month of Glenmoor Country Club, we have a 

special Margarita Mixer planned. Come dressed in your favorite “90’s” tennis outfit and we’ll 

also be featuring music from the 90’s. Don’t miss this fun night on Friday, July 27th. 

Be sure to stop by the courts July 25 – 27th to cheer on your juniors as they compete in the 

Club Championships. Finally, you don’t want to miss the Pro-Am on July 28th at 1:30pm.

When I was in high school in the late 80’s…I played recreational league softball here at Glenmoor! 

Where you might ask? In the ball fields that were right here on the seminary property. I still remember 

my amazement when I was coming home from college and learned of the news that there was a developer 

from Cleveland who was going to convert Brunnerdale Seminary into a country club and residential 

community. And now…20 years later…to be a part of this wonderful place is just remarkable. 

I’d like to express my gratitude for the vision of Bert and Iris Wolstein. Glenmoor Country Club has 

been such a special place for me, as I know it has also been for many of you. I am fortunate to have the

memories submitted will be entered into our special 20th anniversary drawing at the Member 

Holiday Party. You can win $200 gift certificates to the pro shop and spa, as well other prizes! We 

are also compiling a “Top 20” list that will also be unveiled at the Holiday Party! 

At our recent Social Committee meeting Mr. Harper, sparked a wonderful discussion about the 

deeper intention behind creating great events here at Glenmoor. Yes, we want to provide 

opportunities for entertainment and socializing; yes, we want to offer great events as an added 

benefit to being a Member of Glenmoor. Yet more than all of that, the deeper intention is to create 

an environment where families can connect and create memories through Club tradition. Mr. 

Harper cut right to the heart of it all. We want to build events that stay with us through the years, 

that we look forward to, that leave us and our children with lasting irreplaceable memories. In Mr. 

Harper’s words, “It was just a given growing up that we would be going to the Club for the 4th of July 

and Labor Day, we looked forward to it every year, and that is what I want for my family here at Glenmoor.” Our TGIF 

Party at the Pool was the perfect kick-off to the summer season and the annual 4th of July party will carry us on into the 

month of July, followed by the White Party in August. We have so many wonderful annual events and new events being 

planned for the second half of 2012 and beyond, be a part of the Glenmoor Tradition, as many of you already have been 

for 20 years. Come out and join all of the fun and bring the whole family! I will be looking forward to seeing all of you 

here at the Club this month! Oh and by the way, welcome to our newest member of GCC, Max Harper who did in fact

Our pool season got off to a very hot start Memorial Day weekend! It’s nice to see the pool busy 

with swimmers and sunbathers enjoying the sunshine. 

Swim team is practicing Monday through Thursday from 9am to 10am. Every Wednesday is our 

traditional “Donut Day” to keep the swimmers motivated during practice! Come support the team 

at one of our swim meets this month! 

We’ve already swam a home meet with Fairways and a meet at Brookside in June. 

Sign your swimmer up for Session #2 of Group Swim Lessons. The Session starts on Monday, 

July 9th and finishes up on Wednesday, August 1st. Private lessons are available at your 

convenience. Stop by the pool or give me a call.

“White Party” Signature Cocktail Contest 

Do you think you have bragging rights to your very own signature cocktail? 

Submit your cocktail and have the opportunity to compete against your fellow 

Members to be the featured signature cocktail at the White Party on Saturday, 

August 11th. All submissions should be emailed to Lisa Sadeghian at 

lsadeghian@glenmoorcc.com or call her directly at 330-526-2202 by July 16th. The 

Social Committee will choose 3 submissions to compete against each other in the 

Loch Bar on July 19th at 6:30PM. The Social Committee invites all Members to 

join them on July 19th in the Loch Bar at 6:30pm to cast their vote to determine 

the winner! 

C.A.S.T. celebrated its one-year anniversary on May 23rd with a relaxing 

cookout attended by over 130 people! Lots of new folks came as well as 

representatives from each of the organizations we have had the honor of serving with 

this year. Entertainment was provided by Glenmoor’s own Paul Guerra and the 

potluck meal was out of this world! On May 30th, CAST was honored by the Early 

College Academy and presented a plaque that recognized our partnership in 

education and dedication to their students. One of Glenmoor’s newest caddies 

and 8th grade student Jac’Quir (Jack) Pearson was also presented with a new school 

award called “The Glenmoor Award”. According to principal Ken Brunner, The 

Glenmoor Award is a prestigious award as it exemplifies what we want to see here at 

ECA. The award is for a hardworking 8th grade student that knows the type of work 

it takes to achieve their dreams. These students may not come from a great 

background yet strive to excel the best they can no matter what the circumstances 

are. They are willing to make sacrifices to help others. They stay on task in all classes 

and strive for great grades. They carry themselves as a responsible young adult.” 

What an honor for our new group. C.A.S.T. will have many great opportunities 

for you to serve in areas you may be passionate about available this fall. Help meet

What’s Cooking Chef Meeker? 

I wanted to start out by thanking the Members for a great 

showing at the “Soup for You” Akron Canton Food Bank event. 

It really showed the community what a strong responsible group 

you are. I wanted to take the time and thank you and say how 

happy I was with all of our involvement to help a good cause. 

The pool is doing great and Lesia and Terry are having a 

lot of fun. Let’s hope for a hot fun summer. I hope to see you 

down there enjoying all of this great weather. 

The Patio has been doing great and Gail and her crew have 

been doing a fantastic job. TGIF has been another huge success so far and our new 

cook Katie Stenger has been doing a great job on the grill. Feel free to say hi and tell 

her how you like your steak cooked. We will be having some neat themes this year 

so check us out every Friday this month. 

Black Heath 

Did you know? 

The pool dining service went green and 

is no longer using paper products, 

cups and plastic silverware. Not 

only is this a better way to serve our 

members but we have cut out a huge 

environmental foot print. I estimate 

we will not use over 10,000 pieces of 

thrown away products this summer.

Just a reminder that we have begun preparing tableside menu items in the Black Heath on a regular basis. The menu fare

Team Member of the Month 

Rosilee McLaughlin, or Rosie as she is known in the kithchen, is Glenmoor’s newest team 

member of the month. Rosie started working for us in the summer of 2011. In the past year she 

started in the dish room in Scot’s Grille and now she is the lead dishwasher in banquets and is 

prepping food each day. She has also taken on the task of being Chef ’s helper on Men’s league 

nights and has really learned the importance of Membership at Glenmoor and what it entails. 

Rosie is a graduate of Washington High School in Massillon and she is a great fan of the Tigers. 

Not only is she a great football fan, but she is the secretary of the Buckeye Bearcats Semi-Pro 

football team in Green, Ohio. 

Rosie is a hard worker and does a great job for us in the kitchen. She learns something new every 

day and has quickly become a great asset in the kitchen if you see her she is the one always smiling.

Fitness News

Are you a fan of Spin? 

Come sign up for the ‘Match Hayley’s 

Miles’ event. It is a Spin event totaling 

328 miles over the month of July. Hayley 

is riding in the Hope Ride for the American Cancer 

Society from July 26th-29th. It is a 4 day event from 

Cleveland to Cincinatti. 

Each participant in our event gets the whole month of 

July to try and finish the 328 miles. Each spin or cycle 

class you take will be worth 15 Miles. If you take Hayley’s 

6:00am spin on Wednesdays or Fridays it is worth double 

(30 miles). You may also do the miles on your own on a 

spin bike or a recumbant bike- just write down your miles 

and tell Josh at the Fitness desk each time you cycle. 

Each participant will recieve a gift bag and the person with 

the most miles in the end will recieve a dinner for 2 in the 

Black Heath with table side cooking. 

Cost to participate is $20, price includes a donation to the 

American Cancer Society.
