March Madness, an interesting term with a different meaning for many of us. The expression, “March
Madness” was first used in 1939 by Henry V. Porter, a high school basketball coach in Illinois. Back then
it was a term used to describe the excitement specific to the Illinois state boys’ basketball tournament.
Today this term is used by sports promoters, fans, in commercials and promotions by retail merchants.
Interestingly enough, Ohio became the 17th state on March 1st, 1803. Winter ends and spring begins.
The weather will be kind and turbulent, and the celebrations many during the month, including NCAA
March Madness and St. Patrick’s Day. For certain, the month of March will be a busy one at the club!
Enjoy the “Glenmoor Experience” during March. Why? My curiosity this month led me to answer this
question. Why Glenmoor? Because life is short! We spend a great deal of time working and worrying.
At Glenmoor, we can access the fitness center, spa; enjoy the various dining options and special events while having fun
with friends and family. The “Glenmoor Experience” is a great way to meet new friends and mix work with enjoyment.
Members and their guests feel special. The staff provides outstanding, individualized service. Take the time during
March to just relax at the Club in preparation for a busy spring and summer! See you there!
Update from the Board: 2012 Board Committees have been finalized and meetings have begun. I would encourage you
to join a Committee. If you are not able to participate in a Committee, please contact any Board Member with ideas,
questions or concerns. We will continue the Board Liaison Program in 2012 in an effort to build stronger relationships.
If you haven’t already, you will be receiving a letter from your 2012 Board Liaison soon. “Be part of Glenmoor’s Member
Voice”.
I am happy to report that the Club had a very good year in 2011. Usage was up in just about every area, some very
important capital improvement projects were completed, Membership enrollment continued to grow and we ended the
year in a very strong financial position with no debt.
As a result, Glenmoor is poised to celebrate its twentieth anniversary year in grand fashion. You can be personally
involved in the Club’s continued growth and success through your participation in the committee of your choice. I
encourage you to contact the chairperson of any committee that interests you and find out what it’s all about. We
wouldn’t have gotten to where we are without Member involvement in the committee system and it will continue to be
a major contributing factor to Glenmoor’s future success.

In 1992, Glenmoor Country Club opened its doors to Stark County!
We will be celebrating this historic occasion all year long!

If you haven’t noticed already…the theme of “20” is pretty strong around the club as we are celebrating
the Club’s 20th anniversary this year!! What a special time for Glenmoor!
In a recent meeting with John Sypek, the Chair of the Membership Committee…we were discussing the
number “twenty” and came up with an idea we wanted to share with the Membership. We often ask the
Members to think of a friend that would be interested in joining Glenmoor. Just for fun…try to think
of someone 20 years younger or 20 years older than you who might be interested in joining! Does that
bring anyone to mind? If so, please call or email me. I’d love to follow up with your Prospective Member
and help make you a Glenmoor Ambassador…so you can receive a $600 club credit!!

Greetings from the Golf Shop by Shawn Grimes
We are quickly moving toward the opening of the course for our 20th Anniversary Season. With all of the events that
happen so quickly in the spring, it is important to be informed of all dates and deadlines. The spring golf booklets will be
available April 1st. These golf booklets will contain all new and continuing events and programs for 2012, as well as all special
events for the 20th Anniversary Celebration. Prior to the booklets, all early event information that you need is listed below.
Please email me to register for these early events at sgrimes@glenmoorcc.com.
The “News from the Golf Shop” will continue in 2012 to help all Golf Members with weekly reminders. Please take the
time to email me at sgrimes@glenmoorcc.com so that I can capture your email address and get your place on file for the weekly
reminders.
The first date of importance is the Spring Golf Event Registration for all Golf members. This will take place on Friday, April
6th at 1:30 pm following the Good Friday Shotgun Awards in the Men’s Grille. This is a casual registration in which we like to
finalize the league registration and Member Guest registration as well. Stop in after the morning shotgun or prior to playing in
the afternoon.

March is here and the dining rooms are preparing for
Spring! New features and spring flavors are starting to fill our
shelves; asparagus, fresh morels and fresh Alaskan Halibut.
Join Judd in the Loch Bar as there will be great features
along with lots of “March Madness” fun. Baseball is just
around the corner! The banquet kitchen is preparing for our

Happy Spring!!! Six weeks down and fourteen
to go. For what you ask? Those of you who
are participating in the 20 pounds down in
20 weeks know exactly what I’m talking about.
Congratulations to the winners that are losing, no pun
intended. So far we have lost a total of 32 pounds.
Great job!
The running club is going strong with all of our dedicated
runners. Everyone will be trained and ready for the
Glenmoor Gold Rush on Sunday, March 18th at 9:00am.
Remember this is a guess your time fun run with a 1 mile
run for the kids. You must put your guessed time on your
registration form. Running club participants are
automatically registered for the race. Every twentieth
person to register for the race will not have to pay the fee.
Good Luck!
Do you need a little rejuvenation? Keep checking in at the
fitness desk for an update on our weekend renewal retreat.
Some of the fun things we will be doing include Magical
Yoga classes led by Mark Jones, meditation and makeup
(BareMinerals) demos done for the all over body, mind
and spirit renewal.

And C.A.S.T is beginning to make great strides!
On Thursday, Feb. 2nd C.A.S.T. provided over 200 cookies and 130 bottles
of water to the Early College Academy for their Parent College Night. On Feb.
3rd we provided pizza for the school in celebration of exemplary 2nd marking
period grades and the end of “spirit week.” We had the privilege at our
last meeting of being introduced to Wendy Lichtenwalter who will be a liason
between the Early College Academy and C.A.S.T. Wendy will help coordinate
all of the mentoring, tutoring, volunteering, and the other programs we are
creating as we partner with this wonderful school. And a very special thank you
to the Timken Company whose fifteen or so employees have begun to tutor at
ECA once a week during their lunchtime.
On Saturday, February 4th, eight C.A.S.T members joined together for a
“Shed Building Contest” at Habitat for Humanity. On Saturday, February
18th we served a “BBQ at the Laundromat” at White Rose Laundry on Cleveland
Avenue. A Men’s Book Study has begun on Friday mornings at 6:30 am
along with a Women’s Book Study on Friday mornings at 8:30 am, both at the
home of Susan and Jack Teat, 3878 Telford. We have been presented with a
new serving opportunity at the Refuge of Hope and are beginning to meet with
other organizations who come to us with interest in our help.
We are a relatively new group, but we know we are making a difference and
heading down the right path. Please join us! There is plenty we can do with
your help! Our next meetings are March 15, April 6 and April 26 at the Sypek’s
at 6281 Bertram. Hope to see you there!!
