Cultural life
For the students studying at „Aurel Vlaicu” University, the city of Arad offers a large variety of
entertainment facilities, that makes of Arad an important academic centre. A true exhibition of Renaissance
architecture, Arad has been known for over a century as „Small Vienna”. The State Theatre offers plays from
the Romanian and universal literature. The Hirschl House, the Old Theatre, has a rich history and a promising
future.
Theatres and Concert Halls
„Old Theatre” hosts many modern national and international performances. In May it organizes the
Underground Festival, famous for its nonconformist and postmodern performances. Next to the theatre one
can have a drink at Joy`s (Literary Cafeteria) and socialize with other teenagers, actors, directors.

Puppet Theatre of Arad hosts performances for children but also for grown-ups. From time to time
they also have movie projections and performances in Hungarian language for the Hungarian minority of
Arad.

State Theatre „Ioan Slavici” is one of the most
important cultural institutions of Arad. In fall it hosts an
international festival, but great performances can be seen
throughout the year. Students have the opportunity to buy
a season ticket at a special price.

Arad Philharmonic Orchestra
The Opera is located in the beautiful building of the
Cultural Palace. It hosts philharmonic concerts, chamber
concerts and a very beautiful Christmas and New Year
concert in December.
