DOKUMENTATION OTTO WAGNER
Der Architekt und Baukünstler Otto Wagner (1841-1918)
war einer der großen Wegbereiter der Wiener Moderne.
Er propagierte eine zeitgemäße Architektur, die dem Leben
moderner Menschen gerecht wird. Wagners Entwürfe vereinten
technisch-konstruktive Zweckmäßigkeit mit hohem
ästhetischen Anspruch.
Mit der Postsparkasse und der Kirche am Steinhof schuf
Wagner Schlüsselbauten der europäischen Architektur um
1900. Als Generalplaner der Wiener Stadtbahn gestaltete er
ein bautechnisches Gesamtkunstwerk, das bis heute die
Wiener Stadtlandschaft prägt.
In einem ehemaligen Stationsgebäude der Stadtbahn zeigt
das Wien Museum eine kompakte, aufschlussreiche Dokumentation
zu Leben und Werk Otto Wagners. In dem prächtigen
Jugendstilpavillon befi ndet sich außerdem ein Shop mit
einem hochwertigen Produktsortiment zu Otto Wagner und
Wien um 1900.
OTTO WAGNER DOCUMENTATION
The architect and master builder Otto Wagner (1841-1918) was
one of the great pioneers in the Viennese modern movement.
He propagated a contemporary style of architecture tailor-made
for the life of modern people. Wagner’s designs combined technical
and structural functionality with high aesthetic standards.
Wagner’s Postsparkasse (Postal Savings Bank) and Kirche
(Church) am Steinhof were seminal for European architecture
around 1900. In charge of the general planning of the Viennese
Metropolitan Railway, the Stadtbahn, he designed an architectural
Gesamtkunstwerk – total work of art –, which continues
to characterise the Viennese urban landscape even today.
The Wien Museum is showing a concise documentation of the
life and work of Otto Wagner in a former station building of
the Stadtbahn, a magnifi cent art nouveau pavilion, which also
accommodates a shop offering a range of high-quality products
associated with Otto Wagner and Vienna around 1900.
