Fraternity Honors Peterson, Leland
Steven W. Leland, University of Southern
California 1985, was honored with the Fraternity’s
Bridgebuilder Award Feb. 25 during the
Western Pacific Conference. He was cited for
his steadfast work as a long-time house corporation
officer at UCLA.
A former Delt chapter leadership consultant,
Leland has served as house corporation
treasurer at UCLA since 1999 when the
Delta Iota Chapter was inactive. When the
Fraternity returned to UCLA in 2002, his
board leadership in maintaining a superior
property has provided the new chapter a
strong housing position in re-establishing the
Delt campus presence.
Professionally, Leland is a marketing director
for Accenture in Los Angeles.
The John W. Nichols Bridge Builder
Award was established by the Arch Chapter in
2004 to recognize and honor those faithful
local volunteers whose unselfish service as
house corporation personnel provides not
only a safe Shelter for today’s student, but a
valuable link from one Delt generation to the
next.
The criteria for the John W. Nichols
Bridge Builder Award is to recognize significant
alumni involvement over three or more
years rendering outstanding service to the establishment,
development, or enhancement
of a house corporation. The number of
awards is limited to 10 per year.
Bruce Peterson, University of Wisconsin-
Milwaukee, 1976, was cited into the

Peterson is the immediate past president
of the Northern Division. He has been an active
Delt volunteer throughout his alumni life
and continues as advisor for the Beta Gamma
Chapter at the University of Wisconsin, a role
he has served since 2003. Professionally, Peterson
is the chief information officer at Uline
Shipping Supplies in suburban Chicago.
The Distinguished Service Chapter
began in 1930 as the Court of Honor. Men
who have been Delt alumni for more than 20
years and who have contributed significantly
to the Fraternity and served Delta Tau Delta
beyond their own chapter are eligible for
membership.
Brother Peterson is the 422nd recipient
of the DSC. Of those men, only 101 are still
living. His citation reads as follows:
“For five decades this son of Wisconsin
has faithfully shared his talents with the Delts
of his home state, division and the Fraternity
at large.
Serving in a variety of roles -- chapter advisor,
division vice president, house corporation
officer and as president of the Northern
Division from 2007 to 2011 -- Bruce has offered
practical, everyday service along with
wisdom both sensible and priceless.
In doing so, he has embodied our ideal
of living a selfless and noble life.”
