The Berkeley Club <strong>of</strong> France is a declared French<br />
not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>it association governed by the Law <strong>of</strong><br />

It aims at connecting Cal alumni, students, faculty<br />
and parents with each others and helping raise UC<br />
Berkeley’s pr<strong>of</strong>ile in France.<br />
We all had <strong>great</strong> time back in Berkeley. Now it<br />
is time to share that experience and give back to<br />

Give to Cal...<br />
More than ever, the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>California</strong>, Berkeley needs us.<br />
UC Berkeley ranks first nationally in the number <strong>of</strong> graduate programs in the top 10 in their fields, according<br />
to the most recent National Research Council study. 35 <strong>of</strong> 36 Berkeley graduate programs rank in<br />
the top 10 in their respective fields.<br />
Berkeley is the only university in the nation to achieve top 5 rankings for all <strong>of</strong> its PhD programs in<br />
those disciplines covered by the US News and World Report graduate school sur vey.<br />
The latest Shanghai Jiao Tong <strong>University</strong>’s Academic Ranking <strong>of</strong> World Universities ranked Berkeley third<br />
in the World.<br />
However, according to the Center for Measuring <strong>University</strong> Perfor mance in 2008, UC Berkeley only<br />
ranks 23rd in ter ms <strong>of</strong> endowment assets with USD 2.9 Billion. Far behind Har vard (1st with USD 34.6<br />
Billion), Yale (2nd with USD 22.5 Billion), Stanford (3rd with USD 17.2 Billion), Princeton (4th with<br />
USD 15.8 Billion) or the MIT (5th with USD 10 Billion).<br />
UC Berkeley is also only ranked 21st in ter ms <strong>of</strong> annual giving with only USD 242,602 given in 2007, far<br />
behind Stanford (1st), Har vard (2nd), USC (3rd) or even UCLA (9th).<br />
In the meantime, the Legislature <strong>of</strong> the State <strong>of</strong> <strong>California</strong> enacted in July 2009 a new state budget that<br />
cumulatively reduces support for the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>California</strong> by more than USD 800 million.<br />
Because we do not want UC Berkeley’s academic pr<strong>of</strong>ile to plunge in the ver y near future, it is important<br />
that each <strong>of</strong> us feel responsible for our university.<br />
