The past month has been a very busy time for the PSA and has seen two new initiatives introduced. The first of these was the Mother
and Son breakfast for year 7s, which proved to be a great success for everyone attending. Mothers were able to meet others new to the
school and it was a time for the boys to get to know each other over croissants and pastries. Alex Sparrow was our guest Old Boy speaker
and provided a very entertaining and motivational speech to inspire the boys.
Our second breakfast was for fathers and sons in year 10, and this was also a resounding success. There was lots of chatter amongst
everyone, with new friendships and networks being formed. The bacon and egg english muffins, croissants and pastries disappeared in a
flash. James Chin was our guest Old Boy speaker, who is now a Money Trader with the BNZ. James gave everyone an insight into his
time at HIBS and the exciting career he now has and this definitely got the boys thinking, and some Fathers too!
The Variety Show was a spectacular event and is always something that everyone looks forward to. The PSA were involved in a different
way this time, not only selling refreshments before and during the show, but having a few of us brave our nerves and join the staff in the
Line Dancing Crew in Achy Breaky Heart.
We are now focusing on our major fundraising event for the year, which is on Saturday August 11 and would like you all to get behind it
and support your school. The theme for this event is ‘Diamonds on Ice’ and promises to be a night filled with good food, wine, dancing
and an exciting auction. We will also be having a special part of the evening in which everyone attending will have the chance to win a
stunning diamond.
To give you a feel for what this evening will be like, you will be welcomed on arrival with a glass of bubbly and canapés, which will be
followed by a sit-down main meal. Platters of petit fours will arrive to your table after the ‘diamond’ part of the evening. We have ‘The
Hipnotics’ performing live on stage to get you up and dancing, as well as an amazing line-up of auction items. This will be an evening not
to be missed so get a group of friends together, or just come along and join others to have fun and dance the night away. Tickets will be
on sale soon, so keep an eye out as they are limited to 300 and won’t last long.
Warm regards - Sandra Banks, President, PSA Committee
