ORION HA for i5/OS ®
“Our fresh products need to be delivered to retailers within hours, so a few hours
of downtime would have an immediate impact on revenue. By implementing
ORION HA for i5/OS, we can be certain that Movex will always be available and
we can deliver the outstanding service our customers expect.”
Critical Issue
Rapid growth through acquisition left Nutrico with a wide variety of business applications
running on different computing platforms. To promote greater operational consistency,
Nutreco elected to centralise its operations on an enterprise-wide ERP solution called Movex
from Intentia. Movex runs on an IBM ® eServer System i computer. With its entire global
operation running on a single system, Nutreco made high availability a high priority.
Results
• Stable and reliable server operations for more than ten countries
• Ensured continuous system access which helps facilitate the delivery of fresh merchandise
• Lowered administrative costs
Business Challenge
Cristóbal Pérez, Corporate IT Manager, Nutreco
Having grown rapidly through corporate acquisitions, Nutreco had a wide variety of business
applications running on different IT platforms in various countries around the globe. To support
greater consistency in business operations, Nutreco elected to standardise on Intentia Movex
on IBM eServer System i systems as its enterprise-wide ERP solution. These implementations
are current in five of the eight Nutreco business groups. In effect, for these business groups,
Nutreco is placing all its IT eggs in one basket, and therefore requires total confidence in the
availability of the new, centralised system.
Cristóbal Pérez, Corporate IT Manager at Nutreco, explains: “Our fresh products need to
be delivered to retailers within hours, so a few hours of downtime would have an immediate
impact on revenue.”
Solution
Nutreco replaced several heterogeneous business computing systems with four copies
of Intentia’s Movex ERP system, all running on a single IBM eServer System i Model i820.
ORION HA for i5/OS mirrors live data from the production server to the second i820,
ensuring that operations can be switched over seamlessly in the event of an
unexpected failure.
ORION HA for i5/OS is designed to maximize the availability of data and applications
on IBM eServer System i servers. ORION HA for i5/OS is a highly adaptable and scalable
solution for disaster recovery, high availability, clustering and continuous data availability
in the event of planned and unplanned system downtime.
Nutreco worked with Vision Solutions’ business partner, PST Business Solutions to
implement ORION HA for i5/OS. “Intentia recommended ORION HA for i5/OS, and the
PST team demonstrated great skills during the implementation,” says Pérez.
The Vision software enables production systems to be switched to the backup i820 server
in the event of an outage, or simply during routine maintenance on the production server,
ensuring system availability where downtime would once have been inevitable.
ORION HA for i5/OS offers multiple levels of replication integrity, checking byte for byte
that the data being replicated is 100% identical on both the source and target servers, so
that a transition from one system to another is absolutely seamless. The underlying VSEE
technology is designed to manage the entire range of activities from simple file updates to
complex applications. VSEE also includes intelligent technology to analyze conditions that
might pose a risk to the integrity of the data being replicated, and automatically correct the
conditions for guaranteed information reliability.
