At the Practitioner to Professor session, meet HIM
practitioners who made a career change into education .
Learn why these former practitioners never want to
return to a hospital or business environment, and learn
why some current HIM practitioners want to become
part-time educators while staying put . Attend this session
to discover what’s involved in making this career change
and what positions are available, and meet some HIM
educator mentors who can give you the inside scoop .
AHIMA Foundation Donor Reception

This invitation-only event honors corporate partners
and AHIMA members who have generously
supported the AHIMA Foundation, and offers a
unique opportunity to network with AHIMA and
Foundation leadership and corporate executives . The
Donor Reception will feature highlights of important
Foundation programs—especially in the critical area of
HIM policy and applied research . Guests will also hear
personal stories from recent scholarship recipients who
benefited directly from Foundation support .

notification, and meaningful use (to name a few)
challenged your facility in meeting and maintaining
patient confidentiality? Join this forum to explore
these topics and others! Members who have an interest
in the behavioral health setting are encouraged to
take advantage of this interactive session . An expert
panel will discuss the impact of these regulations and
the behavioral health setting’s hottest trends in today’s
complex environment .
LTC/Rehab Forum
Analyzing ICD-10 and Documentation
Requirements in LTC
Monday | October 1 | 1–2:30 p .m .
Location: Level 2, E253A
The LTC and Rehab sectors will rely on trained HIM
professionals to lead implementation and process
improvement efforts for ICD-10-CM . In addition to
providing implementation planning, this session
moves beyond an overview, evaluates how common
conditions are coded in ICD-10-CM, and discusses
the related impact on documentation . Roles and
processes unique to LTC and rehab will be discussed, in
addition to early plans for training the sector and how
interested members can participate in this nationwide
effort . Other discussion topics include reducing hospital
readmissions, the impact of EHR in LTC, and managing
RAC audits .
