1.23 Introduction to the Management of<br />

Hotel <strong>Fire</strong> Safety<br />

1 Duration 1 day (7 hours)<br />

2 Aim The aim of this course is to provide an introductory training programme for those responsible<br />

for managing fire safety in hotels <strong>and</strong> other similar premises . For those wishing to gain a<br />

greater depth of knowledge please see the guidance notes in section 11 below.<br />

3 Target Public Hotel managers, duty managers, shift <strong>and</strong> section managers; particularly those working in<br />

larger establishments <strong>and</strong> including those responsible for catering, housekeeping <strong>and</strong> the<br />

like . The course will also be of interest to those involved in the insurance <strong>and</strong> security of<br />

such premises .<br />

4 Prerequisites<br />

None, although it would be beneficial that delegates have a basic knowledge of fire prevention<br />

systems <strong>and</strong> techniques .<br />

5 Objectives At the end of the course the students will:<br />

• Recognise the principal problems in the organization <strong>and</strong> management of fire safety in<br />

hotels<br />

• Be aware of the key causes of fires <strong>and</strong> associated hazards in such premises<br />

• Recognise the different types of fire safety systems <strong>and</strong> equipment available to manage<br />

identified hazards <strong>and</strong> requirements for their maintenance<br />

• Be familiar with the management tools <strong>and</strong> techniques available to support fire safety in<br />

hotels, including record keeping, staff training etc .<br />

• Be aware of the fire prevention, protection <strong>and</strong> first intervention systems <strong>and</strong> techniques<br />

• Be able to adequately implement emergency evacuation <strong>and</strong> protection plans .<br />
