<strong>Manifesto</strong> becomes an annual document.<br />

Weston Park Museum, Sheffield, w<strong>in</strong>s fourth Guardian Family Friendly<br />

Museum Award.<br />

<strong>Kids</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Museums</strong> becomes an <strong>in</strong>dependent charity managed by a Board of<br />

Trustees.<br />

Falmouth Art Gallery w<strong>in</strong>s third Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award.<br />

Pitt Rivers Museum and Oxford University Museum of Natural History are<br />

jo<strong>in</strong>t w<strong>in</strong>ners of second Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award.<br />

<strong>Killhope</strong> North of England Lead M<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Museum w<strong>in</strong>s first Guardian Family<br />

Friendly Award.<br />

The Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award is <strong>in</strong>troduced with a logo<br />

designed by Quent<strong>in</strong> Blake. It’s the first museum award <strong>in</strong> Brita<strong>in</strong> to be judged<br />

by families and children.<br />

The Guardian <strong>Kids</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Museums</strong> Campaign is launched. A 20-po<strong>in</strong>t <strong>Kids</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Museums</strong> <strong>Manifesto</strong> is compiled from visitor comments.<br />

The two-year old son of writer Dea Birkett shouts ‘Monster!’ at a statue of<br />

Eagle Man at the Royal Academy, London – and gets thrown out. Dea reports<br />

her family’s expulsion <strong>in</strong> the Guardian newspaper. Hundreds of families write<br />

<strong>in</strong> to say they’re fed up with feel<strong>in</strong>g unwelcome <strong>in</strong> Brita<strong>in</strong>’s museums and galleries.
