On a sad note the Club would like
to acknowledge John Mullins a Life
Member of the Tango Netball Club
who passed away on 8th September
2011. John was a lifelong
supporter of our netball
club since 1957; he was
a coach, was on the
committee and club
President and along
with his wife Betty,
attended nearly
all League and
Reserves matches
missing only 6 up
until August of
this year when he
was taken ill. John
was awarded Life
Membership in 1987
and passed away from
Cancer but leaves behind some
fond memories, however he will be sadly
missed. John’s funeral was held on the
20th September and the impact John
had on past and present players and
club members was reflected in the Guard

The Club's deepest sympathies are
extended to Betty and his
daughters Sharon and
Lynda and their
families.
It was very fitting
that John and Betty
were in attendance at
the Inaugural Tango
Pink and Black Ball
in June this year
when the Club's First
Premiership in 1952
was honoured and
celebrated.
John and Betty renewed
friendships with many past players and
thoroughly enjoyed the night.
Johns memory will live on through the
Trophy in his name, and presented as the
Junior Encouragement Award.

Club News and Summer Season
Update to all Members
Summer Season 2011/2012 Information - SA
Districts Netball Association - Golden Grove.
The overriding focus for the Tango Netball Club
is on the Winter Netball Season Competition
(April to Sept 2012) at both AMND (ETSA Park)
and SADNA (Golden Grove)
We however use the Summer Competition (Oct
2011 - Mar 2012) as a development pathway
for our players, umpires and coaches.
The summer season has seen in excess of 30
new players to our club and we are very proud
to be able to offer these girls placement in
our teams. Hopefully they become long term
members of the Tango Netball Club.
For Summer 2011/2012 we submit teams in
the SADNA Competition only:
• Primary and Sub Primary - Friday nights
• Seniors and Inters - Monday nights
• Sub Juniors and Juniors - Tuesday nights
Players have been allocated into teams based
on the previous winter seasons grades,
coaches input, development squads and trials
(new players to the club).
Further movement between teams may occur
as games commence to fine tune positions,
emerging abilities and assessment of new
players to the club.
At the clubs discretion players may play out of
their age grade in preparation for the Winter
season 2012.
Fees for Summer Season are as follows ( and
have not increased from Summer 2009/10 or
Winter 2010)

We are a Premier League Reserves Club
actively participating in the Subway Cup
Competition.
At all levels we are striving to provide extra
training opportunites, specific fitness training
and development squad opportunites and
guest coaches.
Summer Season 2011/12 and Winter Season
2012 will hopefully see these opportunites
increase and continue to develop.
The Coaches of our Summer teams have been
given approval to formulate their own coaching
programs based on the Clubs Coaching
Philosophies and Guidelines.
This may mean that they will incorporate
extraordinary activities such as Zumba, Gym
workouts, swimming etc where possible.
Furthermore extra training sessions for
Development Squads will be incorporated into
summer season.
This may also mean that in conjuction with the
parents and players training may be held less
frequently than during Winter season.
It is however probable that training will be
conducted weekly in most instances.
It remains the objective of the club that players
be developed to their maximum capabilities for
the long term benefit of the player and the club.
Development Squads for 3 different age groups
will be announced very soon.

Whilst not every player can be selected for
the Club Development Squads it is the Club’s
objective to develop every player to her highest
potential. It is a prime objective of this club to
continually improve the player depth at all levels
and therefore ultimately producing a stronger

club. Keep a look out for some exciting initiatives in this regard
coming in 2012.
The Tango Netball Club is one of the Largest Netball Clubs in
South Australia.
We are proud of our contribution to Netball in this State , to the
development of Players from Sub Primary level through to Senior
Level and to the community of the Northern Suburbs.
Coaching Positions
The Club is always looking for quality Coaches for both SADNA
and AMND Competitions. If you have a strong desire to coach at
any level please enquire at the Club.
You will be required to complete the NSA Foundation Coaching
Course, commit to following the Club’s Coaching Strategies and
attend the Coaching Education Days that are held annually.
Opportunities also exist to progress through the coaching
ranks via the completion of the Development, Intermediate, and
Advanced coaching courses.
Applications will be sort publicly for all 2012 Coaching Positions
from Inters down shortly.

Senior Trials for
Winter 2012
Senior Trials have been held for Winter
2012 and we conducted 3 sessions.
2 Sessions were held at the Kings
Baptist Gym and for the 1st time
we held a session at Tanunda in the
Barossa Valley
The selections have been made and
the players advised of the squads they
are in.
We are excited by the introduction of
new players to the club and some who
have returned after a season away .
Furthermore we have some excellent
Inter players from Winter 2011 who will
be progressing to the Open age group.
This will assist in creating some
excellent depth at Senior Level and
accordingly we will be seeking the
highest possible grades for our senior
teams.
We are hopeful that we will have 6
Senior Teams participating in the
Subway Cup and AMND Competitions
for Winter 2012.
Premier League
Reserves Coach
The club is pleased to advise that
Steve Windle will be the Senior Coach
of the Premier League Reserves Team
for 2012.
Mel Tump will be an Assistant Coach
and Club Captain.
Considerable work has been done to
expand the support staff for Mel in
this position and we look forward to a
strong season in 2012.

was introduced with great
success raising particular
applause from Netball SA.
Its foundations are based on

Whilst the Management
Committee are always
striving to improve all facets
of the club, we are not
perfect, and we have made
some mistakes .
Going forward the
Management Committee
remind all members to refer
to the Club website for any
information about the club,
social events, fundraising
etc etc.
Please help the club
in whatever capacity
possible. The easiest thing
to do is to do nothing, but
no one benefits from this.

New Assistant Coach
– Subway Cup Team
We are pleased to welcome Scott Mitchell to
the Club in the capacity of Assistant Coach
(Subway Cup Teams).
Scott comes to the club with a wealth of
experience:
• State Mens and Australian Mens
Representative.
• Academy Coach - Northern Region
• Coaching at various Club levels.
Scott will assist Senior Coach Steve Windle
with training and match day commitments ,
player development and talent identification.

We are pleased to advise that Jo Hartnett
has been appointed the Club’s Umpiring
Development Co-Ordinator. Jo has a National
B Badge and is ideally qualified to undertake
this important role for the club.
We thank Peter Badcock for all his work in this
role over the past years and are pleased that
he will be working with Jo on training nights
with our umpires.
Jo will be in contact shortly with all the current
umpires.

New Player Uniforms
We are very excited to announce the Club will
be having a new “A Line Netball Dress’” as its
official uniform for both SADNA and AMND
Competitions for the Winter Season 2012. This
is the same design that the Senior teams wore
in Winter 2011 and was acknowledged by NSA
as the best designed uniforms in the Subway
Cup.
New Tracksuits, Sponsor Polo Tops, Spectator
Tops and Hoodies will also be introduced in
2012. A rebate will be available to all players
who purchased a uniform (Bodysuit) in 2011.
All details will be available early in 2012.

The Inaugural 2011
Tango Pink & Black Ball
The Inaugural 2011 Tango Pink & Black Ball at Sfera’s
Convention Centre was an overwhelming success and we
thank all in attendance for making it a night to remember.
The purpose of the night was to celebrate the 60
Anniversary of the Club’s First A Grade Premiership in
1951. In excess of 350 invitations were posted to current
members and Past Players.
The evening commenced with an address from our
President Steve Windle who then introduced Pat Mickan as
MC who took control of proceedings for the remainder of
the night. Many Past Players, State Players and Australian
Players joined the current players and Club Members for a
night of inspiration, remembrance, fun and dance.
We were privileged to have Peggy King (nee Allen)
present who was a member of that team in 1951 (13
years old). Pat Mickan interviewed Peggy on “the way it
was” and how she became involved with Tango. Peggy
was also a member of the 1956 Australian team to tour
England and reference was made to an article from an
English newspaper at the time. Peggy then gave some
inspirational words to our Club and current players.
Club Legend Bronwyn Roberts presented Peggy with
a Certificate of Recognition as a member of the 1951
Premiership Team.
A DVD of club photo’s from 1951 to Now was played
to “When You Believe by Mariah Carey” and many past
players were seen to be reaching for tissues. Both Peggy
King and Marlene Swinstead (past player from 1955-62)
were then presented with an arrangement of flowers by
Bronwyn Roberts, in recognition of their service to the club
in its formative years.
The excellent service and 3 course dinner from Sfera’s
was enjoyed by all. Live entertainment from the 9 Piece
Chesterfield Brass Band ensured the dance floor was full
for the remainder of the night. Many past friendships were
reunited on the night, new relationships were formed,
and the current Tango members were reintroduced to the
Club’s rich successful history .
The 2012 Pink & Black Ball is now eagerly awaited by all
in attendance, and by those who were unable to attend.
