The enormous effort that culminated in our 50th Anniversary gathering was four years in the making, and
was led by several very talented and dedicated individuals who gave generously of themselves to produce
a weekend that The Lexington School community would be talking about for years to come. We are most
grateful to these friends of The Lexington School.
Blythe Clay, 50th Anniversary Weekend Co-Chair
Blythe Clay has an amazing ability to “dream big” and
to see her vision through to its final and splendid conclusion.
Through her always classy, always sweet style, Blythe
helped to marshal troops that included past and current
parents, alumni, faculty and friends of the school to create
a one-of-a-kind weekend that celebrated The Lexington
School’s past even as it looked boldly toward its future.
Blythe joined The Lexington School’s Board of Trustees
in August of 2005 and soon thereafter began formulating
ideas for the school’s 50th Anniversary. Inspired by reunion
weekends from other schools — specifically her almer mater,
the College of William and Mary, Blythe and her husband
Robert began envisioning myriad ways to bring hundreds
of members of The Lexington School family back to
Lexington for this “family reunion of a lifetime.”
Blythe’s passion for The Lexington School is apparent
and contagious. In addition to producing ideas for
our events and celebrations, Blythe has spent the last four
years working tirelessly to find new addresses for alumni
and families whose addresses had been lost, helping the
school reconnect with alumni and past parents, and formulating
marketing opportunities designed to generate
excitement and anticipation throughout the community.
She even ventured into the realm of fundraising, using the
50th Anniversary to help the school procure the matching
PINPOINTS 50th Anniversary
funds available through the 50th Anniversary Challenge.
As co-chair of the entire 50th Anniversary celebration,
Blythe’s excitement and energy inspired armies of
volunteers and kept the momentum high through years
of planning. Her creativity coupled with her love of The
Lexington School produced a weekend of activities that
engendered a sense of nostalgia and enthusiasm from the
“first day” students and faculty through the parents and
students who walk through these doors every day.
Blythe is the mother of two Lexington School alumni,
Heather Clay Frelinghuysen ’86 and Case Clay ’89. She is
also the proud grandmother of Lexington School student
Anna Clay ’18. Her grandson James will join The Lexington
School’s Class of 2021 next fall. Blythe’s kind spirit and
enduring enthusiasm were the perfect combination for the
enormous job of planning the 50th Anniversary, and we are
grateful for her service. Thank you, Blythe.
Nancy Grimes, 50th Anniversary Weekend Co-Chair
Nancy Grimes is no
stranger to volunteer
service at The Lexington
School. As a devoted parent
volunteer, Nancy has
served The Lexington
School in a wide variety
of ways, including as
CELEBRATION chair
in 1991, and as President of the Board of Trustees 1996-
1998.
When Nancy agreed to return as a past parent to serve
a fourth term on The Lexington School’s board of trustees
in the fall of 2004, the school’s 50th Anniversary had
to be the last thing on her mind. Soon, however, Nancy
found herself taking a front row seat in the 50th preparations
as co-chair for the biggest reunion in The Lexington
School’s history.
