Jonathan Salomon ‘90 & Keturah Gray ‘94
Personal ad: Happening 9th grade guy seeks intelligent, well-read, Middle
School girl to join after-school band practice with other Upper Schoolers. Must
enjoy Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, long hair, and competitive eating. Large
pink-rimmed glasses and oversized neon hair bows are a plus.
Actually, Keturah didn’t even apply for the band job because
although she and Jon attended TLS at the same time, they
didn’t know each other. (Keturah was, however, in the same class
as Seth Salomon —Jon’s brother). After TLS, Jon attended
Henry Clay High School, Washington University, and law
school at New York University; Keturah attended Dunbar High
School and Duke University.
Jon and Keturah’s first date was in New York City – a
season-end wrap party for the television show “The O.C.”
According to Jon, Keturah was more excited about meeting Julie
Cooper than she was about the date with Jon.
Now, they’ve been married a little over a year. Their proposal
went something as follows:
“We went to Montreal over New Year’s weekend. On the
day I had planned to propose, Keturah got a voice mail from
a friend saying, ‘Aren’t you so happy about your sister’s (Mary
Bruce) engagement?’ I assumed this was some kind of intentional
ploy to eliminate any suspicions Keturah might have
had about the trip to Montreal. But then Keturah called Mary
Bruce, asked if she was engaged, and burst into tears (of happiness)
when Mary Bruce said that she was. I retreated to the
hotel room closet with my cell phone to find out what this

was all about. Mary Bruce told me that she had really gotten
engaged, and that nobody had called to tell Keturah because
they weren’t sure if we were engaged yet. I congratulated Mary
Bruce and went back to the drawing board on my proposal
plans. However, Keturah was so emotionally drained that she
decided to skip the dinner we had planned. In the meantime,
Keturah’s sisters called me to tell me to go ahead with the proposal
because everybody was tired of waiting by the phone.
Long story short, I ended up proposing to Keturah at the hotel.
Thankfully, it felt very ‘us’ to do it that way.”
Keturah and Jon were married May 25, 2008, at the
Headley-Whitney Museum in Lexington. Their TLS attendants
included Rebekah Gray ’96, Mary Bruce Gray Alford ’99, Seth
Salomon ’94, Beth Medina Ewen ’94, Marshall Foster ’90, Ben
Hoffman ’90, Curtis Montague ’90, Carl Gray ’02, Seth Rubin
’17 (1st grade), and Erica Cohen ’93. They honeymooned one
year after the wedding, as the week after their wedding, Keturah
was filming for an ABC News special about Appalachia and
ended up traveling, alone, to Paintsville, KY. When they finally
had a chance to take a vacation, they went to Disneyworld and
to visit Jon’s grandmother in Florida. According to Jon, maybe
next year they’ll take a “real” honeymoon.
Currently, Keturah and Jon live in Louisville, KY. Jon is an
attorney; Keturah is a television producer. Their favorite pastimes
include hanging out with friends and family, watching
movies, jogging, discussing why Kentucky, and not Duke, is the
true basketball dynasty of the 1990s, and contemplating their
lack of furniture.
