A look at the personalities of Highland Park neighborhoods West Ridge Michael Del Monte, Prosumer Real Estate Softball and soccer in the evening and summer camp during the day! This is what residents of the West Ridge neighborhood like about the area. Most people I spoke with agree that it is a great family neighborhood, especially being within walking distance to Red Oak and Sherwood Schools and the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA). The West Ridge neighborhood is basically the southwest area of Highland Park, adjacent to Northbrook and Northbrook Court. Its boundaries are generally defined as Central/Deerfield Road on the north, Lake-Cook Road on the south, Route 41/Skokie Highway on the east and the Deerfield/Highland Park border on the west. According to information provided by the Highland Park Public Library, the City of Highland Park, and the West Deerfield Township Assessor, the area started its development around 1945-1955 during the post war building boom. The neighborhood has four public parks; West Ridge Park � , Woodridge Park, Devonshire Park and Magnolia Park. Larry Fink Park and the Deer Creek Courts are nearby, off Clavey, just east of the Eden’s Expressway. The elementary age children primarily attend Red Oak School, and some attend Sherwood School. The middle school students attend Edgewood and Elm Place Middle Schools. The high school is in District 113; some of the older children have the choice to attend either Highland Park or Deerfield High School. Based on information in the MlsNI, in the first quarter of 2007 there were only two sales with an average of approximately 265 days on the market. There are currently 50 properties for sale in the area, ranging from $300,000.00 to $2,275,000.00, including ranches, split levels, older two stories and upscale new residences, with an average market time of over 240 days. Recently, as in other areas of Highland Park, tear downs have slowed or stopped, due to the slowing economy, long marketing times and especially the excess inventory of newly constructed residences currently on the market. However, there is a new housing development across from Northbrook Court, on Lake- Cook Road, that appears to be a success. The West Ridge area and its proximity to Route 41, Crossroads, Garrity Square, Jewel, one of my favorite restaurants—Bluegrass�, and the Old Deerfield Road commercial district provides all the suburban amenities within a short walk or drive. This is also the home � of the Highland Park Police . Our next article will focus on the Braeside area.
