IEHA’s 43rd annual Educational
Conference and Convention was held
Oct. 6-9 in Chicago, and 12 Hawaii
Chapter members were able to attend,
including President John Yamamoto,
Treasurer Madeline Chang, Past President
Rose Galera and Team Clean CEO/Partner
Brian Benz. Ivy Kwok and Outrigger
and OHANA Hotels provided lots of
Hawaiian goodies that were handed out at
the IEHA booth.
At the IEHA dinner, the Hawaii
Chapter was presented with a second place
Superior Chapter Achievement Award
for organized and professional minutes,
audits, reports, newsletters, educational
programs, communication to membership,
marketing/recruitment activities, public
relations and teamwork. In conjunction
with the award, the chapter also was
presented with a $50 check.
The convention’s keynote address
was given by Donny Deutsch of CNBC,
who delivered his keys to success. They
included: 1) have passion for what you do;
2) failure is good – it’s what builds success;
3) “Give me a man or a woman to supervise
my business, and I will take the woman
anytime”; 4) don’t own 100 percent of your
business – give away 20 percent; 5) going
to work should be fun – 80 percent of your
waking hours are spent at the job; 6) cut
meetings by two-thirds of the time – if it is
scheduled for an hour, meet for 45 minutes
– too much time causes wandering.
Next year’s conference is scheduled
for Nov. 9-12 at the Orange County
Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The
keynote speaker will be Tony Blair, former
prime minister of the United Kingdom.

reflections in regards to their experience in
Chicago:
John Yamamoto: “I really feel
like this was one of the most rewarding
conferences I have attended up to now. I
came back to Hawaii filled with excitement
about the future of the cleaning industry.
