2010 Highlights<br />
• Thanks to the community’s generous support and the value of<br />
unrestricted gifts, Providence Community Health Foundation<br />
was able to purchase the O-arm® Surgical Imaging System for<br />
Providence Medford Medical Center. This technology marks<br />
a significant advancement for patients undergoing spine<br />
surgeries. During surgery, the O-arm encircles the operating<br />
table and provides 3-D images that help surgeons track<br />
alignment of the spine and placement of implants.<br />
• The Regence Foundation awarded Providence Community<br />
Health Foundation a $20,605 planning grant to develop a<br />
palliative care program at the hospital. This program will help<br />
seriously ill patients find relief from the symptoms of their<br />
disease. With funds from the grant, a team of clinicians and<br />
leaders attended a Palliative Care Leadership Center conference<br />
and also visited other medical facilities to gather best practices.<br />
The next step included submitting an implementation grant<br />
proposal to The Regence Foundation, whose palliative care<br />
grants are part of its Sojourns Pathway program.<br />

• The foundation’s 19th annual Providence Festival of Trees<br />
in December 2010 enjoyed a record year. The formal dinner<br />
auction was sold out, the Holiday Party entertained close to<br />
500 people, and the Evening of Giving reached out to more<br />
than 1,200 children and foster families in need.<br />
After expenses, $201,000 supported the Carl Brophy Stroke<br />
Program to fund community education and outreach<br />
activities, physician and nursing education, and the<br />
establishment of the first and only telestroke network in<br />
southern Oregon. An additional $56,000 was raised during the<br />
dinner auction in honor of a special friend to Providence, Noel<br />
Lesley, to renovate the hospital’s infusion room.<br />
• With a generous gift from one of Providence Medford Medical<br />
Center’s longtime volunteers, the foundation was able to<br />
purchase the C.A.R.E. Channel for all televisions throughout the<br />
hospital. The C.A.R.E. Channel provides ambient programming<br />
for patients and their families as a restful alternative to<br />
commercial TV. Programming is designed to reduce stress<br />
and promote healing by offering around-the-clock access to<br />
soothing instrumental music accompanied by beautiful nature<br />
images. The foundation will provide ongoing support.<br />
A festive time was had by all at the annual Providence Festival<br />
of Trees. A sold-out audience raised more than $250,000 to<br />
support Providence Medford programs and services.<br />
Providence Festival of Trees guests interacted with the<br />
telestroke robot that was funded in part by the foundation.<br />
