of call numbers assigned or to be assigned. Subscribers are, therefore, requested
HOW TO USE THE TELEPHONE
Use the current issue of the Telephone Directory. An attempt to remember
a telephone number frequently results in a wrong number connection. Telephone
numbers found on letterheads and cards are often erroneous, and should be verified
by reference to the current issue of the Telephone Directory.
When calling a telephone number give each figure separately. For example —
Main 6971 should be given as Main-six-nine-seven-one.
Speak distinctly, in a moderate tone and directly into the transmitter with
the lips close to the mouthpiece.
When through talking hang up the receiver, large end down. A receiver
left off the hook keeps the line busy and causes "Busy" or "Out-of-order" reports to
be made to calling parties.
Answer all calls immediately. Delay in answering may result in the loss of
business or in annoyance and inconvenience to the person who is making the call.
INQUIRIES AND COMPLAINTS
Operators are required to be courteous in their dealings with subscribers, but
are forbidden to hold any conversation beyond that necessary to complete connections.
To make inquiries concerning telephone numbers of new subscribers, call the '' Information
Operator."
The Company values prompt reports of faulty service. Always telephone
them in preference to writing. Use a neighboring telephone if necessary and communicate
with the District Traffic Chief.
