Running Springs, California Fund Raiser
With the help of many parishioners Father Tim continues
to carve out a weekend where the seminarians and other
Resurrectionists come for a weekend of friend raising. In 2007 it
was the weekend of August 18th and 19th. It was a great success
thanks to the organization of Father Tim Keppel, CR. We spoke at
all the Masses at St Anne’s and Our Lady of the Lake Parishes. On
Sunday afternoon there was a stand up reception at Mike and
Father Tim Keppel, CR, Pastor of Our Lady of the
Lake and St Anne’s in the Mountains and Father Gary
Hogan, CR, Director of Post Novitiate Formation and
some great supporters of our Seminarians.

Nancy Casey’s Home in Lake Arrowhead. We all had a great time
in sharing our stories with those in attendance. For the past years
an anonymous donor matches what is given to the tune of
$100,000.00.
Each year we have reached our goal. Thanks again Father Tim for
a job well done. Looking forward to a wonderful time this summer
2008. Thanks to all our supporters in the Mountains of California.

Dear Family and Friends of the Congregation of the Resurrection,
A few years ago there was a popular television commercial that portrayed a powerful commentary on the
reality of the business world today. I do not remember what product or company was being advertised but
one saw a beautiful meeting room with a table of executives dressed in business suits sitting around a large
boardroom table. A young casual dressed individual walks in holding a wrinkled yellow legal tablet. The
young individual who walks in says, “I don’t care what I am suppose to do, I want stock options, a corner
office, a company car, and my name on the door.” The camera focuses on the chairperson’s forlorn face
and a response is heard in these paraphrased words, “I have to agree or else I will risk losing a new hire.”
This commercial highlights an often practiced business principle that material possessions usually guide many
critical decisions. Another way of stating this is often ‘ownership is more important than stewardship.’
An owner is ‘someone who has or possesses.’ A steward is ‘someone who manages another’s property,
finances, or affairs.’ There is quite a difference between these two labels. Our loving God has called His
people created in His image to be wise stewards of the many gifts of the world. Jesus Christ re-stated this
through His use of many parables that praised the wise servants who multiplied or invested whatever
finances or gifts that were given to them. Jesus invited His followers to serve as stewards rather than powerful
warlords or owners. This message at times fell upon deaf ears or stern disagreement.
I think of this often when I reflect on the mission of the Resurrectionists. Our founder, Bogdan Janski,
invited his followers to graciously serve God by raising the hopes and hearts of many diminished by the
injustice of a cruel world. We live in a world of great injustice in which powerful owners oppress many
who become hopeless. As Resurrectionists, we are to be wise stewards of God who must spread a message
of hope in this difficult world.
I would like to sincerely thank you for sharing in our mission to be wise stewards through your financial
contributions, your prayerful support, and your desire to minister along with us in being wise stewards. Please
pray for us, Resurrectionists, as we promise to pray for you. May Bogdan Janksi and all the Resurrectionists
who enjoy the beatific vision of our God intercede for us!

Resurrectionists hold Provincial Chapter
in the Summer of 2007

The United States Province of the Congregation of the Resurrection held its
Provincial Chapter from July 30 to August 3, 2007 at Resurrection Center in
Woodstock, Illinois. In looking up the word “chapter” in Webster’s Dictionary,
we find that one of the entries reads as follows:
“A Chapter is an ecclesiastical assembly of the monks
in a monastery or even of the canons of a church…”
All religious orders, be they monks, nuns, or active ministry orders, meet together
regularly to evaluate their life and ministry in an atmosphere of prayer. Every three
years, we as members of the United States Province of the Congregation of the
Resurrection, gather from all over the country for a Provincial Chapter, a meeting
that lasts several days. Often, with very large orders, delegates from each house are
elected to serve as “chapter delegates”. In our case, a number of years ago we decided
that because we were very small there was no need for a delegate system; instead
we would all come to the Chapter!
At this latest Chapter we first examined what developments have taken place since
the last Chapter three years ago and how things are progressing in various ministries
through reports written by the leaders of these ministries and our individual houses.
Our Provincial Superior, Fr. Michael Danek, C.R. gave the first of these reports on
the state of the Province as a whole, and entertained questions from the membership.
We then examined our financial reports, our institutional commitments, our formation
program and its various needs and heard from our Superior General, Fr. Norbert
Raszeja, C.R. Various statue revisions, proposals and resolutions were brought to the
floor for discussion and vote. We also elected five members to leadership positions for
the next three years: a Provincial Superior and four council members. The Provincial
is a full time position; the council members have other full time ministries in addition
to their role on the Provincial Council.
Besides the business aspects of the Chapter, this time also afforded us the
opportunity for common prayer, celebration with laity and other religious who share
our charism and mission, and to catch up on some relationships with other members we
might not have seen in a while because of distance. The week’s schedule is demanding
and we are all tired by the time Friday rolls around. Our hope is always that the
Spirit of the Risen Christ will continue to lead and guide us as we journey onward.

needed support for the Congregation of the Resurrection-USA Province by simply including the following words in your will:

(insert amount being given here) to be used to support the ministry of the Congregation of the Resurrection-USA Province.

Our Second Year Fund Raiser for

This is our second year that we have shared our story with
the people of Panama City and Panama City Beach,
Florida, about our Seminarians studying in St Louis, Missouri.

Wagner, CR preached at all the Masses at St John’s in Panama
City, Florida and Father Gary Hogan, CR, Director of Post
Novitiate Formation and Seminarian Paul Smith, CR along
with Brother William Hallas, CR, Director of Development
preached at all the Masses at St Bernadette Church in Panama
City Beach, Florida. What a great weekend we had with the
Father Mike Danek, with Father Jacek Junak, Associate
Pastor, St John’s in Panama City, Florida

with a parishioner of St Bernadette’s

people in these two parishes. We have been at St John’s for
65 years and many of the parishioners remember, with fond
memories, the pastors and associates who have served at
their parish. Where as at St Bernadette’s we have only been
their for 3 years but Father Ted Sosnowski, CR and the late
Father Edward Dubel, CR are greatly loved by the people
at St Bernadette’s. The Mission and the Charism of the
Congregation of the Resurrection is alive at both parishes.
We again will be down in the south for another good year
of friend raising with our friends in the spring of 2008.

and Begins His 2nd Term As Provinical Superior

On Monday, January 7, 2008 at 9:00am in the Chapel of the
residence of the Provincial, Father Michael Danek, CR made his
profession of Faith before Father Leonard Krzywda, CR, Assistant
Provincial and his other councilors, Father Tony Dziorek, CR, Father
Joseph Glab, CR and Father Steve Gira, CR at a concelebrated Mass.
At this mass Father Leonard also read a letter from Father Steve
Bartczyszyn, CR, secretary general in which he and the whole Cura
congratulated Father Michael on his second term as Provincial.
May the Risen Lord Jesus continue to bless him in his ministry
to his brothers in the Congregation of the Resurrection.

Two Novices Profess Vows in the Congregation of the
Resurrection United States of America Province
On Sunday, January 6, 2008 in the chapel of Resurrection Center,
in Woodstock Illinois, two of our novices professed first vows in the
USA province of the Congregation of the Resurrection. The two
novices are Charles Messler, CR and Rafal Wasilewski, CR. It was a
filled chapel that witnessed this profession. Over 30 Resurrection
Fathers and Brothers along with the Friends of the Congregation of
the Resurrection, our lay Associate Group from Resurrection Parish in
Woodstock, Illinois, and the two novices’ family and friends were in
attendance. Provincial Father Michael Danek, CR was main celebrant
and homilist in which he said that these two men have the full support
of the other Resurrectionists who have followed before them. We are
there as a Religious Community to support them in this commitment.
A wonderful dinner was had by all in attendance. These two men will
journey down to St Louis, Missouri, where they will begin theological
studies at Aquinas Insitute of Theology. We wish them the very best
in their future studies.

THE CONGREGATION
OF THE
RESURRECTION
WHO ARE WE?
The priests and brothers who serve at your parish or
school are members of the Congregation of the Resurrection.
We are called Resurrectionists and referred to as C.R.’s. We
are a Roman Catholic community of priests, brothers and
seminarians who work in pastoral and educational ministries
in the following countries: Austria, Australia, Bermuda,
Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, Israel, Italy,
Poland, Slovakia, Tanzania, Ukraine and the USA. The
Congregation is organized into three administrative provinces
(Ontario-Kentucky, Polish, and the USA) and one region
(South America) with general headquarters in Rome, Italy.
WHEN AND HOW DID WE BEGIN?
We began on February 17, 1836 in Paris, France when a
small group of Polish emigres chose to live and work together.
Bogdan Janski was the leader. He had come to Paris in 1828
to study law and economics. Janski got caught up in Saint –
Simonism which preached a complete social, political and
moral transformation of the world. Disillusioned by this,
he was drawn into a licentious lifestyle and abandoned his
childhood Catholic faith. Upon meeting Catholic social
reformers, Janski returned to the faith and invited others
to conversion. One of these was Peter Semenenko, a fiery
revoluntionary who fought in the unsuccessful November 1830
Polish rebellion against the Russian overlords. Semenenko fled
to Paris, joined radical political associations and the Masons
and became an atheist who led a dissolute lifestyle. With the
influence of Janski, Semenenko had a conversion experience.
Jerome Kajsiewicz had also fought in the unsuccessful revolution

and fled to Paris where he abandoned his faith and led a life
of partying and pleasure. Realizing his life was going nowhere,
he became attracted to Janski and Semenenko and had a
conversion experience. Janski, Semenenko and Kajsiewicz
dreamed about the Christian revitalization of society. In order
to do this a religious community was needed and they founded
the Congregation of the Resurrection.
WHAT GIFT DOES THE
CONGREGRATION OF THE
RESURRECTION BRING
TO THE CHURCH?
The following is our Charism (gift) statement which says
who we are and what we believe.
We desire to be faithful to the grace received by our founders,
a grace we now share by our call to the Congregation of the
Resurrection. We recognize certain truths to be especially
important for our life and work as Resurrectionists because
they give expression to this grace and call.
We believe that God’s love for us is merciful and unfailing.
We have not earned his love. We are nothing, have nothing and
can do nothing without God. We are attracted to evil. We are
sinners. Yet, God continues to draw us to himself.
We believe that in his love the Father calls us to conversion:
to personal resurrection in union with Jesus, to a new life filled
with the power of His Spirit. With Jesus, we die to ourselves
when we surrender our lives to the Father, renouncing anything
that separates us from him. The power of the Spirit forms Christ
in us, and moves us to respond with love to the Father’s great
love for us.

We believe that God calls us to live together as brothers,
sharing the gifts that we have received, supporting one another,
praying and working together for his glory. He has called us
to be a community which is a living sign of the Gospel values
of justice, truth and love.
We believe that God calls us to work together for the
resurrection of society, bringing his life and love to all,
through our personal witness, through the witness of our life
in community, and through our community apostolates,
primarily through parish work and teaching. This also requires
that we build and teach others to build, a Christian community
in which all can experience the hope, joy and peace of Christ’s
resurrection.
We believe that Mary is our model for all that we are called
to be and do as Resurrectionists.
Our Resurrectionist gift is a Vision of Hope!
Our CORE VALUES are the following:
1. God loves us.
2. God calls us to ongoing conversion.
3. God calls us to be a community.
4. God calls us to transform society.
5. Mary is our model.
We believe that God loves us unconditionally. Not matter
what we have done or said God continues to love us. This is
the fundamental principle of our lives. Because we realize that
God loves us unconditionally, we know that we need ongoing
conversion. We are sinners and saints. We need to change. We
need to seek forgiveness and to be forgiving others. God calls us
to be a community. We need to live, work, pray and play with
each other. The support and challenge of a community invites
us to be more Christ-centered. God calls us to resurrect society.
We give new life to others in our pastoral and educational
ministries. Mary is our model of all that we are called to be
and do. We also seek to be role models for others.
We invite you to share our Vision of Hope! Please reflect
on each of these core values in your own life. How has God
loved me unconditionally? Where do I need conversion in my
own life? What am I doing to build up community where I am?
Am I willing to resurrect society through my words and actions?
Is Mary a role model for me? Am I a role model for others?
Our MISSION is to resurrect society through our pastoral
and educational ministries.

10th Annual Fund Raiser
FOR OUR SENIOR RELIGIOUS AND OUR MEN STUDYING
FOR THE PRIESTHOOD AND BROTHERHOOD.
Sunday, September 30, 2007 was another great day for the
Resurrection Fathers and Brothers. It was the 10th Anniversary of
our fund raiser for our Senior Religious and our men in formation.
Over these ten years we have raised close to $600,000. dollars to
help these two worthy causes in our Religious Community. Again
we broke our attendance record of slightly over 600 people. We also
chose the White Eagle Banquets in Niles, Illinois, as our place to
host this event. It was the traditional Polish style food which people
really enjoy. At this event we honored many people from our various
ministries who have embraced our mission and charism as a religious
community. But the top two awards that are given out each year
are the following : The Vision of Hope Award 2007 which went to
the Knights of Columbus from the State of Illinois. Many of the
knight councils were present at the event. Many of the parishes that
we staff in the Archdiocese of Chicago & the Diocese of Rockford
have had councils in our parishes for years. We were very pleased to
honor them for all the work they do in the United States to promote
the cause of Life in all forms from birth to death. It gives us great
hope for the future of the church and world. Accepting the award
on behalf of the Illinois Chapter of the Knights of Columbus was
Mr Phil Barone and his wife Alice. In his acceptance he clearly was
touched that the Resurrection Fathers and Brothers would honor
the Knights of Columbus with this honor and he said that he would
share this with all the other councils in the State of Illinois.
The second major award that is given out at this event is the Veritas
et Caritas Award 2007, which is an award given to a Resurrection
Father or Brother who truly is a brother to his brothers. As Provincial
Father Francis Rog, CR truly was a Brother to his brothers and still
lives that spirit today. Father Rog, CR in his acceptance speech shared
with the group the various decades of service he has performed
in the church through his office as priest.
The third major award that is given out at the event is the
Resurrection Merit Award 2007. This award is given to a person
or couple who live out the mission of the Congregation of the
Resurrection in the various ministries that we support. Each pastor
or leader selects this person and the award is presented at this
event by the pastor or leader. This year the following received the
award: Phyllis Bernacki from St Stanislaus Kostka, Chicago; James
Robaczewski from St Hedwig, Chicago, Ewa & Jozef Jurczk
from St Stanislaus, Chicago, Illinois, Bishop and Martyr, Marian
Koscielniak from St Hyacinth Basilica, Chicago, Illinois, Lee
Andrew Barlow from Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South,
Mr Thomas Carpenter from Resurrection Catholic Church,
Montgomery, Alabama, +Vivan Brooks Truman from St John
the Evangelist Church, Panama City, Florida, Luis Arellano from
St Joseph Church, Fontana, California, Dennis Gaynor, from
Gordon Tech High School, Bill & Peggy Gilger, Resurrection Center,

the wine on the tables. A big Thank You is in place for all who
helped with prizes, and helping in everyway possible to make this
a special event.
It is a wonderful event every year raising over $64,000.00.

at Poretta’s Banquets in Chicago, Illinois.
