Hello members of the Invincible <strong>Marching</strong> Marauders <strong>Marching</strong> band! You are<br />

receiving this email because you are on the roster of fabulous members of the <strong>IMM</strong>!<br />

Hopefully you are having a wonderful summer and are almost ready to comeback to<br />

school. We have lots of exciting news to share with you in this communication so<br />

keep reading. This is absolutely going to be the best CSU <strong>IMM</strong> <strong>Marching</strong> <strong>Band</strong> in the<br />

history of the school! We have lots of new instruments and equipment, but more<br />

importantly, the students who are in the ensemble this year are the most talented<br />

group we’ve assembled to date. Our potential is unlimited. You are going to be<br />

amazing, your audiences are going to love you, and you’re going to have great fun!<br />

Attached and included on the webpage is an information sheet. You will<br />

need to complete this form, then email or fax it to me as soon as possible. I am<br />

concerned that someone may have been left off of this list or won't check their<br />

email. Please talk to your friends and ask them if they received this correspondence.<br />

Ask them to check their MYCSU email address as well. <strong>Information</strong> forms are due not<br />

later than July 31. We are going to be writing drill earlier this year, so in order to<br />

have a drill spot, you must submit your information form on time.<br />

<strong>2012</strong> Show Concept<br />

This year the <strong>2012</strong> <strong>IMM</strong> <strong>Marching</strong> <strong>Band</strong> will presenting two Productions:<br />

The Music of Stevie Wonder<br />

A prominent figure in popular music during the latter half of the 20th century,<br />

Wonder has recorded more than thirty U.S. top ten hits and won twenty‐two<br />

Grammy Awards. In 1989 He was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame<br />

located in Cleveland, Ohio. Often referred to as the “Musician’s Musician” He has a<br />

very developed sense of harmony and uses many extended chords utilizing<br />

extensions such as ninths, elevenths, thirteenths, diminished fifths, etc. in his<br />

compositions. With our <strong>2012</strong> show we aim to support the ideas of that this great<br />

artist has exemplified through his music.


A Tribute to The Women of Soul<br />

Over the past year the music world has lost many great artists. Our <strong>2012</strong><br />

Homecoming Show will pay tribute to musical legacy of Whitney Houston, Donna<br />

Summer, and Teena Marie. These Women of Soul have exemplified excellence in<br />

music performance and showmanship. Their careers have inspired many people<br />

throughout the world. The Closer for our <strong>2012</strong> Homecoming Show will be both<br />

entertaining and inspirational.<br />

<strong>2012</strong> Camp <strong>Information</strong><br />

Camp Registration will begin on Sunday, August 5, <strong>2012</strong> at 10:00 a.m. and our<br />

rehearsal will begin at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon<br />

All students are to report to the Paul Robeson Recital Hall promptly at 10:00 a.m. for<br />

camp registration. You will receive your CSU <strong>IMM</strong> <strong>Marching</strong> <strong>Band</strong> Uniform and<br />

Baseball Cap at this meeting, so be prepared with cash or a money order in the<br />

amount of $55. 00. If you don't have white band shoes, you can order those at<br />

Trophy Sports Center in Xenia, Ohio and the cost is $40.00. All students using CSU<br />

<strong>Band</strong> instruments will be assessed a usage fee of $20 per semester. This will include<br />

marching percussionists. All fees are payable at registration unless you make prior<br />

arrangements. Camp will end Thursday afternoon, August 9 at 8:00 p.m. Leadership<br />

Team and approved members of Tau Beta Sigma may move in on Friday August 3,<br />

<strong>2012</strong>, Wind and Percussion players a will be allowed to move into your residence<br />

halls on Saturday, August 4 after 12 p.m. Please note that it is your responsibility to<br />

register for housing by July 30, <strong>2012</strong>. The <strong>Band</strong> Office is not involved in this process<br />

and late registrations will not be Honored. <strong>University</strong> Housing has requested that<br />

we have each student register directly with Housing. Please do not call them on the<br />

phone unless it is absolutely necessary, as this is the busiest time of year for them.<br />

<strong>2012</strong> Camp Schedule<br />

All <strong>IMM</strong> <strong>Band</strong> members will receive a camp schedule at registration, but for now<br />

You need to plan for rehearsal each day from 7 a.m.‐ 9 p.m. We have one week to<br />

prepare for our first performance so we need to rehearse at optimum efficiency<br />

from the outset of our season. Here are some tentative dates you need to know now:<br />

Bud Billiken Day Parade August 10‐11, <strong>2012</strong><br />

Dayton Football Classic Sept 2, <strong>2012</strong><br />

Cleveland Labor Parade Chicago Illinois September 3, <strong>2012</strong><br />

CSU Homecoming October 3, <strong>2012</strong><br />

Section Specific <strong>Information</strong><br />

Percussion, you will be receiving additional information regarding your schedule<br />

From Mr. Goodwine. Your rehearsals will begin early. Please practice the<br />

Exercises and come prepared to audition. Be aware that in the past we have not<br />

been able to place every student who auditioned into the percussion section. It is<br />

Your responsibility to prepare for success.


Leadership Team<br />

Leadership Team, you will be receiving another email from me soon, but you need<br />

to plan on our first meeting Friday, August 3 at 7 p.m. Thanks in advance for<br />

coming in early to help ensure a smooth start to our season!<br />

Items Needed for Camp<br />

You will need to bring your <strong>Band</strong> Shorts, White T Shirt, tennis shoes (no sandals),<br />

socks, hat, sunscreen, water jug, washrag for ammonia water, instrument (in good<br />

playing condition), supplies like reeds and valve oil, pencil, a HUGE desire to achieve<br />

excellence and HAVE FUN!!!!<br />

Work Study<br />

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY FOR WORK STUDY! We have a<br />

few openings for student work‐study positions in the band office. If you are<br />

interested, email me as soon as possible.<br />

Final <strong>Information</strong><br />

There is still time for you to get your friends involved in the biggest and best<br />

Invincible <strong>Marching</strong> Marauders <strong>Band</strong> to date. Have interested parties contact me as<br />

soon as possible or send me the contact information and I will follow up. You are our<br />

best recruiters! This should answer many of your questions for now. Please check<br />

your email early and often for updates. I will be traveling and recruiting for CSU<br />

intermittently, so if you have questions, send me an email or give me a call on my<br />

returning to the <strong>IMM</strong> <strong>Band</strong>, you are the reason our band is excellent and exciting!<br />
