This past week I accepted the resignation of Diane
McDonald as our Pastoral Associate at St. Ronald. While
Diane has been with the parish for some nine years and has
been a positive force and pastoral voice, she shared with me
that "the spirit" is moving in her heart and telling her it's time
to move on, time for a new adventure and challenge; we in
ministry know that voice well as "that voice" is what got us to
where we are today in the first place.
On behalf of myself, the staff and all the parishioners of
St. Ronald, the neighboring parishes and vicariate we sincerely
thank Diane for her years of service to The People of God and
we wish God's generous Blessing on Diane and may He guide
and protect her on whatever journey He is sending her on.

My Dear Parishioners,
This week, we welcome our guests in the MCREST
program. I wish I could be with you to participate, but my
recovery (while going according to schedule) is not at the point
where I can walk or stand for long periods of time. The physical
therapy is long, hard, and tough and progress is literally
measured in inches.
As pastor of St. Ronald, I would like to welcome our
MCREST guests and commit to them that our staff, volunteers,
and parishioners are here to serve you. We want the opportunity
to show you our well known "St. Ronald Hospitality". We are
not the biggest parish in the Archdiocese of Detroit or even
close to the biggest church in the area, you have certainly
stayed at much larger churches, but soon you will see that what
we are is the Church with the biggest heart, the most
compassion, and the best cooks in all of Southeastern

Last weekend, we celebrated the birth of John the Baptizer.
Such Zeal! Such single-minded dedication to one goal! I like to
imagine what it must have been like as he and Jesus grew up.
We have some indication that they knew each other well from
John’s words at the River of Jordan. He looks up in surprise and
says, “It is I who need Baptism from you, and yet you come to
me!” And Jesus answers: “Leave it as it is.” and John gives in
(Matthew 3:14,15).
How zealous would we be in the spreading of God’s
kingdom if we too, knew Jesus? That’s just it. We have the
scriptures to work from and just reading his words can give us a
clear picture. We have to ask ourselves if we are satisfied to
listen to a Gospel on Sunday, listen to the homilist’s views on it
and go about our business for the rest of the week without a
thought beyond that. How do we grow in faith then? If we don’t
try to get to know Jesus better, how will we help others find
him? We all know people who are lost, or worse, indifferent to
Christ. We have a duty to Christ to help others get to know him,
to recognize his saving grace but we can’t do it if we don’t

After 9 years of selflessly serving our St. Ronald’s Parish,
Diane McDonald has decided to retire from the Archdiocese of
Detroit and venture to New York. She has not planted her feet
anywhere as of yet, the Holy Spirit is guiding her. To live in
New York has been a life-long dream of Diane’s.
It is her genuine kindness and generosity that makes this very
difficult to say “goodbye”. However, we must respect and
support her decision. For those who have been involved with
Diane and her ministry or have been touched or enlightened
with knowledge in our faith, know and understand that Diane
does not believe in “goodbyes”, but instead new beginnings.
The Ladies Group~SIS will host a Retirement reception on
Sunday, July 15, 2012 after the 11:00 a.m. Mass. We invite you
to join us in this event, as it is the best time to show our
gratitude to a noble, selfless soul. We want to make this
wonderful occasion very special and your presence matters a
lot. All are welcome!

How do you feel about the new law that forces the
Church through the health insurance it provides to parish and
diocesan employees to cover abortions for their employees? It
doesn’t sit right with me; I really don’t think it’s any of the
governments business what kind of health care the Church
provides its employees. Everything the Church does has its
grounding in the Bible, plain and simple, at least it should. I
feel that as a citizen and a Catholic, this is just the latest attempt
by our government to control everything. I see our civil liberties
being eroded everyday by a government that just seems to get
bigger and bigger and go deeper and deeper into debt. Every
President for the last 20 years has promised “smaller”
government and just the opposite always seems to happen.
As citizens, we are called to do something, but let’s be
honest. How many of us have the time or the wherewithal to
tackle the government. We can write all the letters we want to
our representatives, but unless there’s a hefty check attached I
doubt if it gets much attention. They are too busy sorting
through the letters and checks they get from the lobbyists.
That’s where the real horsepower behind legislation is. If I
sound somewhat pessimistic, I guess I am with this latest
development and with this being an election year, who knows
what’s coming down the pike from the Administration or the
Challenger. I fear the worst given the already tense situation in
the Middle East and with North Korea.
We have our MCREST guests this week and I’m looking
forward to meeting them and getting to know them. Each one of
them has a story, a story that I want to hear. There is therapeutic
value in letting someone talk. Listening is a real art that seems
to have fallen by the wayside as it seems that everyone is much
more interested in what they have to say than what someone
else has to say, to coin a phrase, “they love the sound of their
own voice.” Have you ever noticed that when you are talking or
someone else is talking how often you or they are interrupted?
Where did all that come from, didn’t our parents raise us better
than that? Let’s all practice some listening and let’s let people
finish their thoughts before responding.
I know we will bend over backwards to make our guests feel
welcome. Give them some good old St. Ronald hospitality. Be
sure to stop in and visit. I’m sure they’d appreciate meeting

A Prayer for the 4th of July
On this Independence Day, I am reminded of all those who
have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your
Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical
and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that my
freedom was purchases with a very high price. My freedom cost
others their very lives.
Lord, today, bless those who have served and continue to
give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty, meet
their needs and watch over their families.
Help me to live my life in a way that glorifies you, Lord.
Give me the strength to be a blessing in someone else’s life
today, and grant me the opportunity to lead others into the
freedom that can be found in knowing Christ. Amen.

Anointing of the Sick (Ministry to the Sick and Shut-Ins)

Baptism
Contact office for schedule of class & Baptism dates.
First Communion and Confirmation
You must be in a Religious Education program at least two years before reception of these sacraments.
Holy Matrimony
Contact office at least six months in advance of your wedding date to begin preparations.
Reconciliation
Every Saturday at 3:30pm and by appointment.
To register at St. Ronald Parish, please call 792-1190 or stop in the parish office Monday thru Wednesday
between 9am & 5pm, Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday 9am-Noon, Saturday 4:30pm-6:30pm, and
Sunday 8am-12:30pm. If you have a change in address or phone number, please notify the office.
