Sunday, Sept. 23 Retinal Findings with Systemic Disease - COPE 33098-SD (2 hrs.) - Jeffry Gerson, OD, FAAO This course will discuss systemic diseases that affect the retina. Not only will we discuss the retinal findings, but the systemic implications and appropriate treatments or referrals. Fundus Autofluorescence and Its Practical Applications - COPE 34524-PS (1 hr) - Jeffry Gerson, OD, FAAO This course will discuss the basics of fundus autofluorescence and how it can be used. Examples of patient images will be shown and compared to more traditional forms of imaging including widefield imaging and OCT. Discussions of the findings will demonstrate why this now accessible technology is practical and will change patient management. AMD: The Cards We’re Dealt & The Hand We Play - COPE Pending (1 hr) - Jeffry Gerson, OD, FAAO This course will discuss some of the proactive strategies that OD’s can employ to prevent or help treat AMD. Particular focus will be given to genetic testing and how it can easily fit into everyday practice. The practical implications of genetic testing will be discussed from who to test to what to do with the results. Changes to Nebraska Optometry Continuing Education Requirements Pending For the license renewal period that began August 2, 2012 new regulations are pending that would change the CE requirements for optometrists who will be seeking re-licensure in Nebraska in 2014. The pending changes will increase the requirement to 44 hours of approved CE credits for the two-year period. However, along with the increase in the number of hours, doctors will have additional options for meeting the requirements. The pending regulations will allow up to 4 hours of approved practice management education during the two-year period and will allow as many as 8 of the 44 hours to be 'home study'.
