March The Prestons moved to Mosman.<br />
Oct judged the Mosman Art Prize, awarding it to Grace<br />
Cossington Smith for painting and Weaver Hawkins for<br />
watercolour.<br />
1953<br />
Sept Preston’s major solo exhibition, opened by Bernard Smith.<br />
1954<br />
The Prestons travelled for six months through Europe and the<br />
Middle East.<br />
1955<br />
Nov Delivered the opening address for Elisabeth MacIntyre’s<br />
exhibition of ‘walkabout’ drawings and pottery, Craftsman Studio,<br />
Sydney.<br />
1956–59<br />
Jan 1956 The Prestons departed for Asia and India, then in the<br />
artist’s 82nd year they traveled around Africa. Preston retaining her<br />
sense of humour, wrote of her health – ‘heart trouble, too much<br />
Art’.<br />
Sept–Dec 1958 Delivered probably her last public lecture,<br />
‘Aboriginal paintings – Arnhem Land’, at the AGNSW.<br />
1961–63<br />
Preston made life member of the Society of Artists in 1961.<br />
Oct 1962 hospitalised.<br />
28 May 1963 she died at Mosman Private Hospital.<br />
