ClassChat by Elaine Casey The ’80s Beverly (Ricketts) Silva (’83 Social Work) has completed her master’s degree in human resources <strong>and</strong> organizational development from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> San Francisco. Beverly has worked in the human resources field for four years as a human resources manager at Synopsys, Inc. She has worked for the company for eight years. The ’90s Adrienne (Brearley) Bemus (’96 Journalism) <strong>and</strong> Stephen Bemus (’97 Journalism) are the proud parents <strong>of</strong> Jacob Stephen, born on Sept. 17, 2003. Victoria Ann Farber (’97 Journalism) was married on June 7, 2003 to John F. Farber in Mammoth Lakes, Calif. They honeymooned in Kauai <strong>and</strong> recently moved to Portl<strong>and</strong>, Ore. Kerri Garcia (’96 Business Administration) vice president <strong>and</strong> director <strong>of</strong> public relations for the Rose/ Glenn Group, received the Gold Spike Award for excellence in public relations at the 2003 Public Relations Society <strong>of</strong> America (PRSA), Sierra <strong>Nevada</strong> Chapter <strong>Silver</strong> Spike Awards ceremony on Nov. 13, 2003. Kerri has more than a decade <strong>of</strong> experience in the communications industry with an extensive background in public relations, employee communication, public affairs <strong>and</strong> project management. Previously she came to the Rose/Glenn Group from Harrah’s where she spent five years as director <strong>of</strong> entertainment <strong>and</strong> public relations as well as communications manager. At Rose/ Glenn Group, she oversees all aspects <strong>of</strong> the agency’s public relations division including team management, business development <strong>and</strong> strategic planning. Kerri serves on many local boards <strong>and</strong> committees including <strong>Nevada</strong> Women’s Fund, Truckee Meadows Tomorrow, Community Foundation <strong>of</strong> Western <strong>Nevada</strong>, <strong>and</strong> Northern <strong>Nevada</strong> Race for the Cure. She is the winner <strong>of</strong> the 2002 Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. Chairman’s Award for community service, <strong>and</strong> was honored as a <strong>Nevada</strong> Women’s Fund Woman <strong>of</strong> Achievement by Harrah’s in 2000. Tim Garcia-Jay (’98 Agriculture) <strong>and</strong> Joelle (Grupe) Jay (’92 Education) are pleased to announce the birth <strong>of</strong> their son, Jackson Donovan, on March 19, 2003. Tim has recently been named regional director for the Human Motion Institute. Joelle is the president <strong>of</strong> Pillar Consulting, LLC, a leadership development practice providing coaching to business leaders <strong>and</strong> executives. Tony Illia (’96 MA English) recently received two Tri-State Pinnacle Awards from the Public Relations Society <strong>of</strong> America for writing excellence, including “Best Feature Story” <strong>and</strong> “Best News Story.” The annual competition recognizes pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism <strong>and</strong> work quality for a threestate area, covering <strong>Nevada</strong>, southern Utah <strong>and</strong> northern Arizona. Hans Jones (’96 General Studies) <strong>and</strong> Judy Bruegger were married Sept. 21, 2003 in Denver, Colo. The couple make their home in Denver. Walter F. M<strong>and</strong>eville III (’90 Veterinary Science) <strong>and</strong> his fiancée, Beth, have moved back to <strong>Reno</strong>. Walter is partnering with friend <strong>and</strong> colleague Kevin Lazarcheff (’89 Veterinary Science) to build a new veterinary hospital in the Spanish Springs area. Walt is looking forward to being back home after years spent in federal service, veterinary research in graduate schools, <strong>and</strong> private <strong>and</strong> corporate veterinary practices over much <strong>of</strong> the United States. The new hospital will service small animals, birds, exotics <strong>and</strong> horses.
