History
EASA was established in 1981, when students
of architecture from Liverpool invited
their fellow students from Europe to come
and help them solve problems in their city.
About 300 students gathered to work on
the theme ‘starting up the EASA experience’.
Since then there have been assemblies
in different countries with 400 to 500
participants each year, holding alive a net
of contacts over the whole Continent.
SESAM and INCM
Every country has two official NC��� ��� �� �Na- �Na� �Na�
tional Contacts), who are responsible for
everything happening between the international
network and the schools in their
countries, like passing on informations,
having contact with the organisers about
workshops, participation interest, exhibition��,
finding tutor�� for the next a����embly
and helping them to prepare etc.
The NC’s are the generator of the EASA
spirit on the national level.
At the yearly Intermediate National Contact
Meetings �INCM) the NC`s of all countries
meet to exchange information and discuss
the previous assemblies and the preparations
of the assemblies to come. Decicions
about future sites and topics are made
there.
The Small European Students of Architecture
Meeting �SESAM) is a smaller version
of EASA. The Idea is to learn in an informal
atmosphere about other learning and
teaching methods. The interdisciplinary
approach encourages the exchange of different
points of view.

EASA i�� not an ���tabli��h�d organi��ation but a non-political
and non-profit network aimed at bringing people together and
building a platform for �xchang� of id�a�� and knowl�dg�. Th�
annual EASA ��umm�r ��chool alway�� tak��� plac� for 2 w��k��
around th� b�ginning of Augu��t, �ach y�ar organi���d by diff�r�nt
group�� of ��tud�nt�� in a diff�r�nt country to a diff�r�nt
th�m�.
Th� ��ucc����� of EASA ba����� on th� fact that �v�ry y�ar ��tud�nt��
mak� it po����ibl� for oth�r ��tud�nt�� to hav� an �xtraordinary
�xp�ri�nc�: 400 to 500 ��tud�nt�� of all Europ�an countri���
m��t to di��cu���� th�ir id�a��, work tog�th�r and �xchang�
th�ir �xp�ri�nc��� conc�rning archit�ctur�, �ducation or lif� in
g�n�ral.

th� chanc� to di��cov�r diff�r�nt cultural, hi��torical, and �nvironm�ntal
background��. By �xploring n�w dim�n��ion�� of communication,
reflection and presentation a new perspective of
d�aling with th� archit�ctural prof�����ion can b� achi�v�d.
Th� ������nc� of th� EASA, ��inc� it’�� b�ginning in Liv�rpool in
1981, i�� maintain�d by th� ‘EASA ��pirit’ - �a��y to f��l but difficult
to describe.
