<strong>Contact</strong> <strong>Netz</strong> <strong>–</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>Overview</strong><br />
<strong>Contact</strong> <strong>Netz</strong> is a non-profit org<strong>an</strong>ization acting as network, dedicated to prevent drug<br />
addiction <strong>an</strong>d to help <strong>an</strong>d conceal the youth <strong>an</strong>d parents about this issue. <strong>Contact</strong><br />
<strong>Netz</strong> coordinates six centres that all work in drug prevention, counselling <strong>an</strong>d<br />
rehabilitation. To coordinate the centres <strong>Contact</strong> <strong>Netz</strong> maintains a main office <strong>an</strong>d a<br />
research <strong>an</strong>d development department. <strong>Contact</strong> <strong>Netz</strong> consists of a foundation board,<br />
whose members are sent by the municipalities of the city <strong>an</strong>d the c<strong>an</strong>ton of Bern,<br />
development assigned personalities <strong>an</strong>d staff members. The business m<strong>an</strong>agement<br />
surveys the work of the different regional centres.<br />

Counselling<br />
<strong>Contact</strong> <strong>Netz</strong> supports <strong>an</strong>d helps people affected from drug addiction <strong>an</strong>d the people<br />
around them. The main focus of the counselling <strong>an</strong>d prevention work is placed on<br />
illegal drugs. Main areas of work in the centres are:<br />
• consult<strong>an</strong>cy for teens, parents or people with a history of subst<strong>an</strong>ce abuse<br />
• Therapies for people with psychical disorders<br />
• Stationary therapy <strong>an</strong>d rehabilitation at guest families<br />
• Education<br />
• Work projects<br />
• Housing assist<strong>an</strong>ce<br />
• Medical support<br />
• Survival help<br />
• M<strong>an</strong>agement<br />
• Research <strong>an</strong>d development<br />
The goal is to find solution by information, consult<strong>an</strong>cy, mediation <strong>an</strong>d motoring.<br />
The services are free of charge.<br />

Therapy<br />
Therapies offered:<br />
• Single ambul<strong>an</strong>t psychological therapy <strong>an</strong>d family therapy<br />
• Prisma: stationary therapy for people with drug <strong>an</strong>d other personal problems who<br />
c<strong>an</strong>’t m<strong>an</strong>age their life by themselves. The particip<strong>an</strong>ts live with a guest family<br />
who normally run a farm.<br />
• Prisma plus: Half stationary option for those particip<strong>an</strong>ts with a job or who are<br />
attending <strong>an</strong> education <strong>an</strong>d c<strong>an</strong>’t do a stationary therapy.<br />
Schooling/Education<br />
The school project offers people who quit school or their education due to drug<br />
addiction to catch up <strong>an</strong>d finish their studies. The service contains private school<br />
lessons <strong>an</strong>d coaching. Beneficiaries attend school or further education at official<br />
schools <strong>an</strong>d get a ch<strong>an</strong>ce to be reintegrated into society <strong>an</strong>d gain ch<strong>an</strong>ces on the job<br />
market.<br />
Outpatient Clinic for Addiction<br />
A therapy with methadone or other substitutes like buprenorphin c<strong>an</strong> open up new<br />
perspectives for people addicted to heroine. The assist<strong>an</strong>ce of doctors, social<br />
workers, care personal as well as no stress having to find new supply <strong>an</strong>d<br />
stabilization of health, help to pursue a reduction of drug consummation until total<br />
abstinence.<br />
Taking methadone or other substitutes like buprenorphin enables the patients to<br />

unemployment. <strong>Contact</strong> <strong>Netz</strong> offers drug addicts sheltered working places in the<br />
fields of wood <strong>an</strong>d textile processing, h<strong>an</strong>dcrafts, constructing <strong>an</strong>d selling. These<br />
sheltered places provide a daily routine <strong>an</strong>d ch<strong>an</strong>ces for integration into job market.<br />
Housing assist<strong>an</strong>ce<br />
Housing opportunities accomplish <strong>an</strong> import<strong>an</strong>t contribution to the social reintegration<br />
of drug addicted persons <strong>an</strong>d families. The people live as independent as possible<br />
<strong>an</strong>d are assisted in <strong>an</strong>y form needed e. g. cle<strong>an</strong>ing, administration, daily routine etc.<br />

Damage minimization<br />
The bad social <strong>an</strong>d health situation caused by drug addiction c<strong>an</strong> be minimized by<br />
low threshold survival assist<strong>an</strong>ce. This assist<strong>an</strong>ce contains sheltered drug injection<br />
rooms, cle<strong>an</strong> injection material, counselling <strong>an</strong>d information. Aim is to secure<br />
survival, the prevention of infectious diseases <strong>an</strong>d motivation for social reintegration.<br />
There are different contact addresses in Bern <strong>an</strong>d neighbourhood.<br />
Projects<br />
Pilot p: Prevention <strong>an</strong>d drug-checking in the party scene. Aims are to sensitise <strong>an</strong>d<br />
inform young party visitors at location about party drugs <strong>an</strong>d to improve the<br />
cooperation with the org<strong>an</strong>izers of the parties as well as the Knowledge <strong>an</strong>d resource<br />
tr<strong>an</strong>sfer with different Institutions.<br />
LaStrada: The mobile helpdesk for drug addicted sex workers. The helpdesk<br />
distributes s<strong>an</strong>itary products, preservatives, needles etc. <strong>an</strong>d acts as recovery place<br />
to exch<strong>an</strong>ge experience <strong>an</strong>d information. A care team consisting of two people is<br />
there for conversation <strong>an</strong>d counselling. The main aims are to prevent violence<br />
against drug addicted sex workers, sensitisation of the public on issue, prevention of<br />
sexual tr<strong>an</strong>smitted diseases.<br />
Drug project in Uzbekist<strong>an</strong>: Harm reduction project in Uzbekist<strong>an</strong>.<br />
Migration <strong>an</strong>d addiction - specific counselling/therapy for migr<strong>an</strong>ts: This project<br />
was fin<strong>an</strong>ced for three years <strong>an</strong>d addressed people <strong>an</strong>d families with a migration<br />
background that had troubles with drug abuse. The ambition was to open the centres<br />
<strong>an</strong>d projects of <strong>Contact</strong> <strong>Netz</strong> for migr<strong>an</strong>ts too.<br />
LaGare <strong>–</strong> Place for Alcoholics: This place offers without forcing consummation<br />
simple meals, snacks <strong>an</strong>d non alcoholic drinks, entertainment <strong>an</strong>d little medical care.<br />
There are also possibilities for collective trips, film evenings etc. There is a<br />
psychological counselling <strong>an</strong>d other support <strong>an</strong>d help.<br />
