<strong>2012</strong> NORTH CAROLINA MEN’S SOCCER<br />

McCaskill Soccer Center<br />

The state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art McCaskill Soccer Center on the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>North</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> campus was dedicated on the morning <strong>of</strong><br />

Sunday, April 11, 1999.<br />

“I really think this completes our wonderful facility here,” head coach Elmar Bolowich said at the dedication. “We’ve had a great<br />

stadium, and now we’ve got a great facility to go along with it. This will benefit the program in the years to come.”<br />

The facility quickly paid dividends, including the 2001 NCAA title. UNC was ranked No. 1 in the nation for much <strong>of</strong> the season<br />

in 2001 and went 12-0-0 at Fetzer Field that season for the best home record in school history. Fetzer hosted three NCAA tournament<br />

games in 2000, 2001 and 2005 and one each in 2002-04 and 2006. In 2008, UNC went 10-2-0 at home en route to a<br />

national runner-up finish. In 2009, UNC went 12-1-1 at home and turned in another winning record in 2010 going 8-1-3. The 2011<br />

National Championship season saw the Tar Heels go 13-0-2 at home and set a pair <strong>of</strong> attendance records.<br />

The 6,600-square-foot McCaskill Soccer Center, named after Norman and Carol McCaskill, is located adjacent to Fetzer Field<br />

on the UNC campus.<br />

“I think this building is a reflection <strong>of</strong> how much our alumni care about soccer at <strong>North</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong>,” UNC women’s soccer coach<br />

Anson Dorrance said. “We have a rabid following, and I think our fans will love this building.”<br />

The facility is a two-story structure, which houses locker rooms for the varsity men’s and women’s soccer teams as well as a<br />

team meeting room on the first floor. The second floor houses <strong>of</strong>fices for both sports as well as a large conference room which<br />

can be used by all <strong>of</strong> the Tar Heels’ Olympic sports teams.<br />

The building was designed by NBBJ Architects <strong>of</strong> Research Triangle Park and was constructed by Resolute Building Company<br />

<strong>of</strong> Chapel Hill. Total costs <strong>of</strong> the project were $1.8 million.<br />
